From Yang Fenglin's attitude, Bai Jiaojiao could glean some insight into the extent to which the Yang family could exercise their privileges.
Yang Fenglin drove along the main road towards the train station, and Bai Jiaojiao actually saw Bai Shiqing and Li Shuxian on the way.
"Second sister! Brother-in-law!"
Bai Jiaojiao called out to someone through the car window from a distance. Yang Fenglin heard it and immediately looked at the two people on the roadside.
After Bai Shiqing and Li Shuxian got off the bus, they asked around and walked towards the entrance of Yanda University. They had only taken two steps when they ran into Bai Jiaojiao.
"Oh my, it's Jiaojiao!"
When Bai Shiqing saw Bai Jiaojiao sitting in the car, her first reaction was not to recognize her.
She excitedly patted Li Shuxian's arm, and Li Shuxian squinted to see who it was.
"Second sister, how long have you and your husband been walking?"
Yang Fenglin stopped the wind, and Bai Jiaojiao jumped out of the car.
"Not long ago, we just got off the bus and turned the corner." Bai Shiqing said excitedly, holding Bai Jiaojiao's hand.
Yang Fenglin got out of the car with Bai Jiaojiao and said, "Second sister, brother-in-law, hello."
"This is Feng Lin, my cousin from my uncle's family," Bai Jiaojiao introduced.
Bai Shiqing looked Yang Fenglin up and down; he was as tall and straight as a young poplar tree. She praised him, "Little brother, you look so handsome. Did you come here especially to pick us up? We're so sorry."
"Of course, of course," Yang Fenglin grinned, revealing his white teeth. "It's so hot, you should get in the truck quickly, brother-in-law. You can just put your bundle in the truck bed. The truck bed is clean; our unit cleans it every day."
"Hey." Li Shuxian said, putting down the luggage on his back.
Bai Jiaojiao and Bai Shiqing got into the car first, while Yang Fenglin helped Li Shuxian put his bundle into the car from behind.
Bai Shiqing stared at Bai Jiaojiao's belly: "You're pregnant, why did you have to come all the way here to pick me up? Couldn't you have just asked your brother-in-law? He's at home getting ready."
"Sis, this is a long story. Let's not go home yet. You probably haven't eaten all morning. Let's find a restaurant and have a meal first."
"Look at you, do you still think I'm some kind of VIP? Taking me to a restaurant? You have money to burn, why are we sisters being so formal?"
As Bai Shiqing spoke, the two men got into the car. Yang Fenglin turned his head to the back seat and said to Bai Shiqing, "Second Sister, it's not what you think. We can't go home now."
"Can't go home? Why is there a 'can't go home' situation?" Bai Shiqing felt something was off about what Yang Fenglin said.
"Fenglin, let's go to the restaurant first, we can talk while we eat." Bai Jiaojiao asked Yang Fenglin to drive, as eating had become very important to her since she became pregnant.
"Hey, why are you keeping me in suspense?"
Bai Shiqing was so puzzled by this question that she scratched her head in frustration.
However, it's only a short drive from here to the restaurant entrance.
"Tell me quickly, what exactly happened?"
After the four of them sat down, Bai Jiaojiao explained the matter to Bai Shiqing in detail. While they were talking, Yang Fenglin and Li Shuxian had finished getting all the dishes.
Just then, Bai Shiqing and Li Shuxian brought lunchboxes. After Bai Jiaojiao washed them at the restaurant, she packed the food for Shen Heng before everyone started eating.
"How could such a thing happen in such a big city? Even people in our poor, remote villages wouldn't have such audacity."
As Bai Shiqing listened to Bai Jiaojiao's story, a cold sweat broke out on her back. In her fear, she slapped her thigh and exclaimed, "This is definitely a prostitute who's knocked you unconscious and dragged you off to be sold!"
"Second sister, ether isn't something that ordinary flower sellers can get their hands on."
Bai Jiaojiao knew how difficult this thing was to obtain, which is why she felt that there was more to this than met the eye. Otherwise, she wouldn't have needed to involve the Yang family to support her.
"Sis, don't worry, my dad will definitely go there in person today. With him there, no matter what these people are trying to harm you for, they will find out the truth! Sis, I'm going to get a bottle of wine and have a drink with my brother-in-law."
Yang Fenglin was about to get up as he spoke.
"Aren't you going to drive? Why are you drinking?"
"It's okay, I'm a good driver, so drinking won't stop me."
Bai Jiaojiao stopped her, saying, "It's better to be safe than sorry. No matter how good your driving skills are, you're not yourself after drinking."
"Alright then." Yang Fenglin had no choice but to sit down.
“It’s definitely not the time to drink at midday, Feng Lin. Once we’ve settled in, your brother-in-law will treat you to a drink,” Li Shuxian said from the side.
"Thank you, brother-in-law. You're so straightforward."
Yang Fenglin and Li Shuxian got along quite well, or rather, Yang Fenglin could get along with anyone. After one meal, they were already calling each other brothers.
Bai Shiqing, however, ate without tasting anything, and said with lingering fear, "From now on, when I come here, I will definitely keep a close eye on you."
"Sister, can you watch over me for a while, but can you never take your eyes off me for the rest of your life?" The most critical moment has passed, and the Yang family is taking care of the rest, so Bai Jiaojiao is not worried. She changed the subject and asked, "Can Auntie take care of Xiaoyang and Xiaoyun by herself at home?"
When the topic of the children came up, Bai Shiqing was also worried: "They are two years old now. My mother will grit her teeth and take care of them. We will bring them home after we settle down here."
Bai Shiqing and Li Shuxian are still staying at Bai Jiaojiao's house. Once their jobs are settled and they move to their new home, they'll definitely need to do some decorating. They're in such a rush that they haven't brought their child with them.
"That's good. You two are probably not used to it since you just arrived. If one of you gets sick from the change in environment, you won't be able to take care of yourselves, and it would be too tiring to take care of the child as well."
Bai Jiaojiao also bought a children's chair for Li Yang and Li Yun at the department store. The chair comes with a small table in front, making it convenient for parents to put the children in.
