Yang Changping's words made Wang Guangyang feel extremely embarrassed, and he sat there awkwardly for a moment.
When Bai Shiqing met Yang Changping for the first time, she finally found an opening to greet him: "Uncle, Shuxian and I just arrived in Yancheng today. We are so grateful that you sent Fenglin to pick us up."
Yang Changping then looked at Bai Shiqing. He sized her up for a while, then asked with some surprise, "You're Shiqing, right?"
"yes."
"Come, come, sit down. What are you standing at the door for?" Although Bai Shiqing and Yang An didn't look alike, Yang Changping still loved her because of her. In addition, he only had one son, so he was very fond of the younger girl who was related to him by blood. "Did you just get off the train? It must have been hard for you two sisters to come here."
As Yang Changping spoke, he was somewhat annoyed by the police station's inefficiency.
Bai Shiqing said, "Shuxian and I usually work a full day. Taking the train is just sitting there. What's so tiring about it?"
Following Bai Shiqing's lead, Yang Changping chatted with her about everyday life in Shili Village. Bai Shiqing was quick-witted and steered the conversation to her few childhood memories with Yang An. Yang Changping listened intently.
The police station office became the Yang family's living room.
Five minutes later, Jiang Rong came up.
"Minister Yang, Director, we have completed the interrogation. It turns out that a human trafficker saw that Miss Bai was pretty and had evil intentions. He confessed everything, and this is the signed confession."
Jiang Rong handed the confession to Yang Changping in a proper manner.
"Come and take a look." Yang Changping moved the confession over to Bai Jiaojiao's side.
Bai Jiaojiao glanced at it and sneered, "Captain Jiang, are you trying to fool this kid with your confession?"
“This… Miss Bai, what are you saying? Look closely, Ma Yong has already explained everything very clearly, and we have also asked about his background and criminal record. How can you say we are fooling him?” Jiang Rong said, glancing at Yang Changping ingratiatingly. “Minister Yang, how could we dare not care about your family matters?”
Bai Jiaojiao threw the confession in her hand onto the table: "I saw your people put that handkerchief with ether into the evidence bag with my own eyes. You didn't even know where the ether came from, yet you say you asked enough questions."
"Miss Bai, you overlooked something. Of course we'd ask about such an important tool used in the crime. It says..."
"You're showing me an answer like 'bought on the black market'?" Bai Jiaojiao interrupted.
Jiang Rong shut his mouth, the words swirling around on his lips, but he didn't know what to say.
Bai Jiaojiao said, "Captain Jiang, you must know what ether is. This is near a university. If there are such small workshops, who knows how many young people will be poisoned. As a police station, you just let this matter pass by so easily? This is a controlled substance. I would appreciate it if Captain Jiang could go back and investigate the origin of this substance and find out if anyone is really selling it."
Jiang Rong was given a long lecture by Bai Jiaojiao. He stood in the middle of the room with a very ugly expression, and large beads of sweat trickled down his temples and into his collar.
Yang Changping's face darkened even more: "What are you standing here for? Do you need someone to teach you how to investigate these things? Perfect, your bureau chief is right here. Come on, Director Wang, you teach him a lesson!"
Yang Changping's words were already a sign of anger, and Wang Guangyang stood up and kicked him: "Hurry up and go!"
"Yes, yes!"
Jiang Rong ran off as if his life depended on it. Wang Guangyang gave Yang Changping an apologetic look: "Minister Yang, Jiang Rong only came to report the progress to you because he was afraid you would be getting impatient. This ether trafficking is a separate case and it's not important."
"It's alright?" Yang Changping wasn't stupid: "Then tell me, what's alright?"
Although Yang Changping didn't know why Bai Jiaojiao cared so much about the origin of the ether, since Bai Jiaojiao wanted to investigate, he, who was there to support her, naturally went along with her.
Jiang Rong felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He sat down in the interrogation room and felt as if the several imposing figures on the second floor were pressing down on him, making it hard for him to breathe.
"Ma Yong, tell me the whole story, how exactly did you get this ether!"
"Officer, didn't I already say it was bought on the black market? How could I have made it myself? I've never been to school. Even if I say that, you have to believe me."
Ma Yong was covered in sores. He endured the pain, but he didn't speak like someone about to be sentenced to death. His eyes were slanted, which was annoying.
"Think carefully before you answer! Where is the black market? Who do you buy from? What are the prices? How do you usually contact each other? Tell me in detail! Let me tell you, you're in big trouble now. Do you think you can just get away with being shot?"
Jiang Rong is not a mere incompetent good-for-nothing who can serve as the director.
Ma Yong wanted to continue playing dumb: "I don't know. We're in this business, it's all one-off deals. Who would keep in touch a second time?"
"So how did you two first connect?"
"We met by chance."
"What kind of coincidence? You can't possibly say that someone on the street suddenly asked you if you wanted ether, can you?"
Jiang Rong pressed on relentlessly, and sure enough, Ma Yong made a mistake.
It seems the origin of this ether is not so simple; Minister Yang's niece actually guessed it correctly.
Jiang Rong felt like he had been pricked by a lot of thorns in his buttocks.
If new information is uncovered, doesn't that mean there was a problem with the statement he just submitted?
