"Get out of here! Get out!"
After the dean finished speaking, Shu Manling left his office.
She took a deep breath at the entrance of the dean's office, and on her way back, she ran into Director Xu, who was scheduled to perform surgery on Yang Changping the next day.
Upon seeing Shu Manling, Director Xu spoke first: "I already know, Dr. Shu, are you really sure?"
Director Xu wasn't as agitated as the dean. To be honest, he admired Shu Manling's courage. It takes a lot of determination to do something that might not be rewarded.
"Director Xu, Minister Yang means that he hopes you can perform this surgery with me tomorrow."
"No problem, we can go and discuss the surgery now."
Director Xu naturally had no objections. By stepping forward at this time, Shu Manling was essentially taking on most of the responsibility for him. In case the surgery failed, no one would blame him.
Shu Manling breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that Director Xu was cooperating.
Bai Jiaojiao hadn't returned home, so Shen Heng finally came to the hospital.
"Jiaojiao, you should go home with Xiao Shen first. If you're really worried tomorrow, you can come back."
Du Ying sent Bai Jiaojiao back home and also sent Yang Fenglin home to take care of Grandpa Yang, so the old man wouldn't be alone at home thinking nonsense.
"Okay, Auntie, I'll come over again tomorrow morning."
Bai Jiaojiao and Shen Heng got into the car. As Shen Heng drove, he said, "This is too sudden. How could such a big thing happen?"
"Uncle is getting on in years, it's alright. I trust Manling. She's always been prudent in her work. If she dared to say it, she must be at least 80% sure."
"Is it that Shu Manling, the roommate whose man came to the school to take her back?"
Shen Heng has a good memory. Bai Jiaojiao nodded and said, "It's her."
"Hey, now that she's graduated, is she still in contact with that man?"
“There’s definitely no contact. Over the years, I haven’t heard of those people coming to look for her again. Shu Manling is too busy avoiding them to even think about contacting them. It’s good for her to be like this. She’s living alone. It’s a little lonely, but without any burdens, it’s the best life for her.”
Bai Jiaojiao chatted with Shen Heng about Shu Manling's current situation. Shen Heng sighed and said, "She really has a lot of bad luck. She can't rely on her own family, and her husband's family is even more outrageous. Now her master has also left. Fortunately, she has finally gained a foothold."
"Shu Manling probably did it out of consideration for my relationship, otherwise she wouldn't have taken such a risk."
If tomorrow's surgery fails, it will not only be Yang Changping's regret, but it may also be a turning point in Shu Manling's career.
Shen Heng thought for a moment and said, "In that case, she is indeed quite loyal, otherwise she could have completely ignored this matter."
"So no matter what the outcome is tomorrow, I won't blame Manling. I believe that my uncle dared to make this decision and will definitely not hold a grudge against her."
Although that's what she said, Bai Jiaojiao still hoped that everything would go perfectly tomorrow.
"Don't overthink it. We can't help with this kind of thing. Go back and get some rest today. If your aunt can't manage after your uncle's surgery tomorrow, we can lend a hand."
"Heng-ge, if you're busy at the factory, it's okay if you can't come. There are plenty of people coming to see Uncle, so it won't make a difference if the two of us help out."
"I'll wait for the surgery results before I leave."
Whether or not it's useful is one thing, but the sentiment is appreciated.
The next day, Shen Heng went to the hospital with Bai Jiaojiao and personally watched Yang Changping enter the operating room. Then he waited outside the operating room with Du Ying and the others.
However, it was not quite the same as Bai Jiaojiao had described. Not many people were outside the operating room concerned about Yang Changping's condition. Compared to the endless stream of people yesterday, only two or three people came today.
Presumably, news of yesterday's events has spread, and everyone knows that Yang Changping has no hope of regaining his sight. Those people are the most opportunistic, and they feel there's no need to curry favor with Yang Changping anymore.
Xu Yue rushed over, but was still a step too late: "Jiaojiao, I've heard about it. I never expected something so serious to happen."
How come you heard about it too?
"This news has already spread throughout our hospital. When I heard Teacher Wen's name, I called Manling, and she told me that your uncle is having surgery today."
How could she sit idly by when two of her good friends' families were in trouble?
Although the three of them don't usually keep in touch, Xu Yue considers these two her best friends.
"My uncle has Manling with him, so there shouldn't be any problems. It's just Manling..."
Bai Jiaojiao's mind was a mess all day, and she felt like the gloomy sky was pressing down on her and making it hard to breathe.
"I wanted to comfort her, but I didn't know what to say on the phone last night."
Xu Yue sat with Bai Jiaojiao, both of them feeling heavy-hearted and not in the mood to reminisce.
Xu Yue saw that Shen Heng was still inseparable from Bai Jiaojiao, just like when they were in school, and she felt a little envious.
They waited outside the operating room for two hours before there was any movement inside.
"Shu Manling, how is my uncle?"
When Bai Jiaojiao saw Shu Manling come out, she immediately went over and asked.
Shu Manling took off her mask and smiled at Bai Jiaojiao.
When Bai Jiaojiao saw her smile, the gloom in her heart instantly dissipated.
"The surgery was a success, don't worry."
After Shu Manling finished speaking, she felt as if a huge burden had been lifted off her shoulders.
"That's wonderful, wonderful, Dr. Shu, thank you so much, thank you so much!" Du Ying thanked her repeatedly, shaking Shu Manling's hand excitedly.
"It's all thanks to Director Xu. With him there, the entire surgery went very smoothly."
When Director Xu came out, he heard Shu Manling praising him, and he was quite pleased.
