Chapter 10 Cooperation

After the tofu was successfully made, Han Xiao and his family ate tofu for several days in a row. Although they made it in different ways, they still felt a little sick of it after eating too much. However, seeing his family enjoying the food, Han Xiao felt a sense of accomplishment.

The only thing left was to solve the problem of raw materials, so Han Xiao went back to the village.

The village remained the same as before. In late autumn, everyone was preparing to hibernate, and the weather was getting colder.

When they arrived at the village chief's house, they saw the village chief and his son Han Zhong carrying firewood. Seeing Han Xiao, they asked in surprise, "Han Xiao, why are you here? Did something happen in town?"

The village chief couldn't imagine what Han Xiao could come to him for, unless he was having a bad time in town and wanted to return to the village.

Seeing the village chief's frown, Han Xiao knew that he was probably worried that they were not doing well in town, so he immediately replied, "No, we are doing well in town. I came here today because I need your help with something."

As he said this, he handed over some cakes he was carrying. They were not valuable, so the village chief took them.

He put the firewood aside and invited Han Xiao in: "Come in and sit down first. Don't rush back at noon today. It's better to eat at home."

Han Xiao hurriedly said, "Don't bother the village chief. I have other things to do later. I dare not disturb you."

Seeing this, the village chief did not refuse any more and asked, "What brings you back to see me this time?"

Han Xiao straightened his expression and said, "To be honest with you, Village Chief, I'm planning to open a tofu workshop in town. However, the price of beans in town is a bit high, so I wanted to buy some from the village."

The village chief listened and pondered for a moment. The price of beans was not very expensive, and it was not cost-effective for the villagers to go to the town to sell them. They usually ate them themselves or fed them to livestock.

But since Han Xiao wants to collect it, it will be some income for the villagers. The New Year is coming soon, and with this income, they can buy more meat to eat.

"Sure, we have a lot at home, but Han Xiao, when will you learn how to make tofu?" The village chief was a little doubtful, because most of the methods of making tofu are not passed on to outsiders.

"My father's friend asked me to help him do this. I just earn some hard-earned money. Beans in town are too expensive. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered the village chief for help."

Han Xiao lowered his attitude, and the village chief thought so too. Han Xiao had grown up in the village, but Han Mingyuan was a scholar, so it was natural for him to find a livelihood for Han Xiao.

After thinking about it, he agreed. The beans in the town were 8 cents per pound, and in the countryside they were a little cheaper, so he charged 6 cents. However, Han Xiao needed to find someone to take them away himself.

Han Xiao was not worried about this. He just needed to pay extra money for transporting the goods.

"Village chief, please take a look at how many beans you have this time. I'd like to buy them all and give you twenty coins. Could you lend me an oxcart to take them to town?"

Before the village chief could say anything, his son Han Zhong immediately said, "Well, that's fine, Dad. If you don't go, I will go. Han Xiao, I don't want twenty cents, just give me fifteen cents."

Han Xiao never expected that the village chief and his son would start a quarrel among themselves, and he couldn't help but laugh.

The village chief was furious when he heard his son was trying to discredit him: "You little bastard, it's not your turn to speak. Get out of here!"

As he said this, he was about to take off his shoes and hit Han Zhong. Han Zhong was so scared that he quickly shrank his head and dared not make a sound.

The village chief felt embarrassed and coughed lightly to cover it up. "Well, I can give you all the beans at home. It does take some extra effort to help you get them over there, but since you've already said so, there's no reason to disagree. I'll let Brother Han Zhong make the extra trip. Since you said fifteen cents, then fifteen cents is fine."

Listening to the village chief's words, Han Xiao couldn't help but smile: "No, since you said it's twenty cents, then let it be twenty cents. We can't let Brother Han Zhong make a wasted trip. Village chief, please don't refuse it anymore. Otherwise, next time I want to ask you for help, I won't be embarrassed to come again."

After hearing this, Muramasa felt more at ease and immediately instructed his son to borrow a car to deliver the beans to Han Xiao.

Han Xiao paid off the money in one go, which made the village chief's brows relax a little. This year's New Year will be much better than previous years.

"Han Xiao, how long do you think these beans from my family can last? If they're not enough, I'll go to the village and ask for you."

Han Xiao was thinking about this issue when he came this time and said, "Village Chief, I'm not happy with what you said. I might need quite a bit later. I'm sorry to bother you. The price is 6 wen. I'd like to ask Brother Han Zhong to deliver it to town for me. I'll pay 20 wen for each delivery."

"Okay, okay, okay, I'll ask you tomorrow when I'm done with my work. Hahahaha, you're doing big things."

Han Xiao smiled lightly when he heard that. It wasn't that he was going to do anything big, but he had been taking advantage of Yipintang these past few days, which made Han Xiao realize that there was a severe shortage of tofu making methods here. He just wanted to see if he could do business with Yipintang.

But of course he wouldn't tell the village chief about these things, as Han Xiao had his own plans.

Han Zhong also borrowed an ox cart at this time. This batch of beans was not much, but it was enough for a while. Han Xiao agreed with the village chief to send another batch of beans to the town in half a month, and this time he would return to the town by ox cart.

After resolving the issue of raw materials, Han Xiao decided to open for business soon.

The neighbors nearby were also curious about what this new family did and why their food always smelled so good.

There are many people lingering in front of Han Xiao's door every day, but most people in this era are more reserved, so they just look and no one comes to ask questions.

However, Han Xiao was not worried. He cleaned up the simple platform in front of the door that day and placed the steaming hot tofu plates on it. There was also a big bucket next to the platform, which contained the prepared tofu pudding and soy milk.
