Chapter 157 Misunderstanding the Eldest Brother

Wenxi was completely stunned, staring blankly at Hongyu, her mind racing.

“Brother, I don’t think Qingqing is suitable to marry into the royal family. Xiuya is more suitable. She is gentle, virtuous, dignified, lovely, generous and kind.”

Hongyu looked at Wenxi with a strange gaze, his expression indescribable.

"Xiuya is only seven years old, right? How can you see gentleness, virtue, and dignity in a seven-year-old child?"

Wenxi...

What does this mean, brother?

So this is because he's fallen for Qingqing and is determined to marry her?

No wonder the eldest brother was always drinking tea when they brought up the matter of Qingqing's mutual attraction during the day; he was hiding his emotions.

Wenxi thought about it and realized that Qingqing and Hongyu were a good match in age, so it would be nice if they could get together.

"Since elder brother thinks Qingqing is good, I will talk to Mother about it tomorrow."

Wenxi yawned. When it comes to matters of the heart, it all comes down to mutual consent.

Of all the men that Granny Ukuma had chosen, none were as good as her eldest brother in terms of family background or character. Moreover, Granny Ukuma had intended to match them up earlier, and if it weren't for the little brat saying that it wasn't right for a princess to marry a prince, the engagement would probably have been finalized long ago.

Thinking of this, Wenxi stood up and patted Hongyu on the shoulder, "Brother, don't worry, leave this to me, I guarantee you'll get what you want."

Hongyu blinked, and just as Wenxi was about to go back to her room to sleep, a sudden thought struck him. He rushed over and grabbed Wenxi's arm, "You wouldn't happen to like me and want to marry Qingqing, would you?"

Wenxi looked knowing. "Otherwise what?"

Hongyu thought to himself, "Luckily I reacted quickly. Otherwise, if this girl had begged Granny Wukuma and the imperial decree for the marriage had been issued, I would have been speechless."

"I meant to let Qingqing marry Hongxi."

Wenxi's mouth gaped open, unable to close.

She stared at Hongyu with wide, bewildered eyes.

She understood the meaning of each of those words individually, but when put together, she was completely confused.

"You said...you want Qingqing to marry my younger brother...Hongxi?"

Hongyu nodded.

Wenxi pursed her lips and stared at Hongyu in silence for a moment.

Seeing her like this, Hongyu simply pulled her back to the table and explained the situation to her.

Wenxi was increasingly surprised as she listened. "Big brother, you're saying my younger brother has always liked Qingqing, but he just hasn't shown it?"

Hongyu nodded. "Perhaps he felt he was too young, or perhaps he had other concerns, which is why he didn't say it. But things have already come to this point. If Qingqing is really to be married off to someone else, it would be better for her to marry Hongxi."

Wenxi felt that something was off about what he was saying.

“But Hongxi is two years younger than Qingqing.”

"So what? Look at Hongxi's old-fashioned appearance, how can you tell who's older or younger?"

Hongxi, lying in his own bed sleeping: ...

Wenxi had never associated Qingqing and Hongxi together before, but now that she thinks about it, it's not a bad idea.

"I'll talk to my mother about this."

If it were to marry someone else, Wenxi would first ask Qingqing's opinion, but when that person was her own younger brother, she felt that she should ask her mother and father first.

So, early the next morning, Wenxi met up with everyone with panda eyes.

"Wenxi, what's wrong with your eyes? Didn't you sleep last night?" Qingqing asked, puzzled.

She's been exercising so much these past few days that she's exhausted. Every night, the moment her head hits the pillow, she falls asleep immediately.

Looking at Qingqing's concerned gaze, and considering that she might become his sister-in-law in the future, Wenxi felt an indescribable awkwardness.

"Uh... I didn't sleep well."

Manzhu stretched and walked over, and was startled when she saw Wenxi's panda eyes. "You didn't stay up all night thinking about Qingqing's marriage, did you?"

Upon hearing this, Qingqing immediately looked over.

Wenxi...

Manzhu'er is such a jinx.

"Hey, I just miss my mother...that's all." Wenxi yawned. "We have one last day of fun today, but I don't know what we should do."

"Such a beautiful view is rare. I have already ordered the court painters to be waiting to paint our portraits."

Kangxi's voice suddenly came, startling the girls so much that they all stood up.

"A portrait? That's a great idea." Wenxi was delighted to hear this.

To have a portrait left here means I can look at it whenever I want to think back on it.

Ten painters came to the palace this time.

First, they would paint portraits of everyone together, and then each person would hand their work to one of their masters, thus ensuring that every master depicted in the painting would receive a portrait to keep.

Then each person was assigned an artist to paint a portrait of her as a memento.

It can be a solo drawing, or a drawing by two or more people.

Thus, the first family photo shows Kangxi sitting side by side with the Crown Prince in the first row. Several girls stand on either side of Kangxi and the Crown Prince, while Yinzhen and several other princes stand in the second row.

After the first portrait was finished, everyone gathered in small groups to paint their own portraits.

But Kangxi always held the crown prince's hand, whether standing in a flower bush, sitting by a fishpond, or in another scene where the crown prince was drinking tea while Kangxi stood behind him picking flowers.

In short, there are no separate portraits of the two individuals.

Meanwhile, Yinzhen watched this scene from a distance with jealousy. In the end, he was dragged by Hongxi to paint a picture of appreciating flowers together, which made him a little happier.

"Is Ninth Uncle jealous?" Hongxi asked with a grin.
