Chapter 21 Sharing Family Bliss

Because he was worried about the Crown Prince, Kangxi led everyone back to the capital a few days later.

The old man had barely stepped into the Qianqing Palace when the descendants of the Wei family followed him in to lodge a complaint.

"Your Majesty, you must do justice for the Wei family!"

Looking at Wei Min kneeling on the ground, Kangxi felt a pang of sadness welling up in his previously calm heart.

This is Wei Dongting's eldest son. When he was a child, he was even held by Emperor Kangxi when he entered the palace. But in the blink of an eye, he was kneeling before him, tears streaming down his face, which was truly unsettling.

"Wei Min, what decision do you want me to make for you?"

Wei Min cried, tears streaming down her face.

“The Prince of Yong forced my father to his death. Now that His Highness the Crown Prince has returned to the capital, he has brought a coroner to my door to examine my father’s body, insisting that there are suspicious circumstances surrounding my father’s death and that he wants to investigate it thoroughly.”

Wei Min seemed moved by her own words and became more and more enthusiastic as she spoke, "Your Majesty, you saw my father before you went to Rehe. He was still alive and kicking then. He was a perfectly healthy man, without any illness or disaster. He died of anger because of a quarrel that happened when Prince Yong asked for money."

“If His Majesty thinks my father died of anger because he was petty, I can accept that. But what’s with His Highness the Crown Prince bringing a coroner to examine the body? An autopsy is only performed when there is doubt about the cause of death. Besides, my father was an official of the court…”

Wei Min cried until her voice became hoarse, and eventually she stopped speaking altogether.

Emperor Kangxi had a headache.

He rushed back to handle the aftermath because he knew that the Crown Prince had taken a coroner to examine the body.

Originally, I wanted to communicate with the Crown Prince first, and then find a way to deal with the Wei family.

Unexpectedly, before they could even see the Crown Prince, they were blocked by the Wei family at the Qianqing Palace.

Kangxi rubbed his temples. Seeing this, Liang Jiugong's eyes lit up. He immediately called over a young eunuch, whispered a few instructions in his ear, and then the eunuch quickly slipped out.

"Your Majesty, His Highness the Crown Prince not only brought a coroner to examine my father's body, but also instigated Guargia Nomin to falsely accuse my father of embezzlement."

Wei Min cried until her eyes were red. "Your Majesty, you have known my father for decades. Don't you understand his character? How could he possibly be corrupt?"

"Why can't we embezzle?" Yinreng strode into the hall, glanced at Wei Min kneeling on the ground, and then went straight to Kangxi's side.

"If Father Emperor doesn't return to the palace soon, I'm afraid I'll be bullied to death."

Even without the Yue family's Guarjia clan, there's still Yinreng's maternal uncle, Suo'etu, in the capital. Apart from Mingzhu's faction, who else could cause trouble under Hesheli's nose?

But Yinreng's words at this moment clearly indicate that someone had displeased him.

Thinking this through, Kangxi hurriedly reached out to Yinreng, "Baocheng, who bullied you?"

Yinreng sat down next to Kangxi and slammed his folding fan on the dragon table, startling Kangxi.

"Who else could it be but the Wei family, who have a deep friendship with Father Emperor?"

Wei Min trembled with fear the moment Yinreng entered.

The reason he came to complain so early was that he had calculated that Kangxi and the Crown Prince had not yet communicated, and that there were some things that Kangxi might not know. So he wanted to get a promise from Kangxi before some things were exposed.

But before she could finish speaking, the Crown Prince interrupted her.

Moreover, judging from Kangxi's attitude towards the Crown Prince, not only would his plan to complain be doomed, but he might even get himself into trouble with the Crown Prince.

Kangxi glanced at Wei Min, who was kneeling on the ground trembling like a leaf, and felt a pain in his eyes.

“Baocheng, if you have any grievances, tell Father Emperor. Father Emperor will stand up for you.” After saying that, he glanced at Liang Jiugong, who immediately walked up to Wei Min and said politely, “Lord Wei, His Majesty has something to discuss with His Highness the Crown Prince. Please wait in the side hall first.”

These words were spoken politely, but the undeniable authority in his tone made Wei Min dare not linger for even a moment.

Yinreng casually reclined on the chaise longue next to the dragon throne and handed over all the information he had gathered about the Wei family over the past few days to Kangxi.

All of these things were compiled by Suo'etu's son, Aljishan, and even the memorials were written by him and handed to Yinreng.

After carefully reading the memorial, Emperor Kangxi's face grew darker with each reading.

"If Father Emperor doubts the authenticity of the memorial, he may send someone to investigate. However, I must find out the cause of Wei Dongting's death."

Kangxi knew how important Yinzhen was to Yinreng, and seeing how stubborn the other was about this matter, he had no choice but to nod.

"This matter is still undecided, and even if an autopsy is to be performed, we must be very careful."

Yinreng was surprised that the old man agreed so quickly, and he didn't have to use any of the arguments he had prepared.

"Father, rest assured, I will handle this matter well."

Seeing that Yinreng was still sitting there after he finished speaking, Kangxi asked in confusion, "Aren't you going to take someone to examine the body?"

Yinreng suddenly took Kangxi's arm like a child, "These matters can be handled by Shi Wenbing or Aljishan. As long as Father Emperor agrees, I don't need to go myself."

Emperor Kangxi was naturally pleased to see Yinreng acting so coquettishly.

“Baocheng, I heard that the Crown Princess takes Hongxi to Cining Palace every two days. It seems that the Empress Dowager likes this child very much.”

Yinreng recalled the news he had received: Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang practically regarded Hongxi as another version of herself, and would hold the brat tightly every time she saw him.

"Father, you were away for so long this time, and Grandmother was very worried, even though she didn't say it. Now that you're back, why don't we have dinner at Cining Palace tonight?"

Emperor Kangxi naturally agreed.

He immediately ordered Liang Jiugong to go to Cining Palace to deliver a message that not only Kangxi and Yinreng would be going that evening, but also sent an oral edict to Guarjia, asking her to bring Hongxi along as well.

As a result, the Cining Palace, which was originally somewhat deserted, immediately became lively as night fell.

"My little darling is getting more and more beautiful."

Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang held Hongxi with great affection, and her gaze towards Tinglan held a hint of approval, "Guarjia clan knows how to raise children."

Tinglan immediately stood up to express her gratitude.

"Why didn't you bring Wenxi along?"

Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang didn't care about the other children. The reason she asked about Princess Wenxi today was because she was satisfied with Tinglan.

"Wenxi caught a cold while riding a horse a couple of days ago. I was afraid that she would pass on her illness to Grandmother, so I didn't let her come."

Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang was just asking casually; she didn't really care whether the other person came or not.

“We Manchus conquered the world on horseback, and it’s rare that Wenxi, at such a young age, already enjoys horseback riding. I just acquired a foal a few days ago, and I’ll have it delivered to Wenxi as a gift tomorrow.”

This is because he liked Wenxi and told the Crown Princess not to stop the other party from riding and having fun.

"This humble servant thanks the Ancestor for the reward."

When Kangxi and Yinreng entered, they heard this question and asked, "Does the Empress Dowager wish to bestow a reward?"
