Chapter 130 Clues

Although the playback was sped up, the surveillance video still played for quite a while due to the considerable time span. During this time, Wang Shen remained completely focused on the monitor. He glanced at the time on the side of the screen; it was almost noon yesterday, but no suspicious individuals had yet appeared.

Just as Wang Shen frowned slightly, a child of about seven or eight years old suddenly ran into the screen. Wang Shen moved his face closer to the screen and called out, "Quick, slow down the playback speed, rewind, slow it down even more." Wang Shen pointed at the screen as he instructed his employee, Xiao Li.

The scene finally slowed down, and Wang Shen saw that the child in the video was holding a file folder. The child then stood at the window of Xiao Lin's studio for a while, looked around, and finally threw the file folder inside.

"Please pause the surveillance," Wang Shen said, pointing to the monitor screen. The footage was frozen on the moment the child threw away the file bag in his hand and turned around. "Manager Jin, take a look at this child in the footage. Is he a resident's child in your community?" Wang Shen asked, pointing to the child's face in the surveillance image.

After hearing Wang Shen's words, the property manager stared at the monitor screen for a long time before slowly saying, "Officer Wang, I've worked in this community for several years and I know many of the residents' children. But I can't possibly recognize them all. However, I don't have any recollection of this child."

After listening to the property manager's words, Wang Shen nodded. "Manager Jin, could you please send the video showing the child to my email address?"

"Of course." The property manager smiled and nodded, readily agreeing to Wang Shen's request.

Wang Shen smiled back, then took out his notebook from his pocket, tore off a piece of paper, wrote his email address on it, and handed it to the property manager. "Manager Jin, this is my email address. Please send the edited video to my email address. Thank you."

"Officer Wang, what are you saying? This is what we should do. Don't worry." The property manager nodded happily.

After thanking the property manager and employee Xiao Li again, Wang Shen left the residential area. He drove quickly along the road, unsure of where to go. Eventually, he arrived at the shore of Zhenhu Lake, the city's largest lake. Wang Shen parked his car and sat down on a wooden bench by the lake. A day truly flies by; the sun had only just risen when he heard the news of Han Lin's death, and now it seemed eager to set again.

Wang Shen gazed at the vast, boundless lake before him. In the distance, the Ferris wheel on the water spun incessantly. Across the lake, the bridge bustled with traffic. Buildings lined both banks, and the opera house in the distance remained magnificent. Further still, the islands in the lake were still lush and green. Everything seemed unaffected by the presence or absence of one more person in the world. Wang Shen slowly closed his eyes, letting the gentle breeze by the lake wash over him, lost in a brief reverie. If it weren't for the sudden ringing of his phone, Wang Shen felt he could have sat there for an entire day.

Wang Shen glanced at the caller ID on his phone; it was Liang Zichen. There must be some news. "Hello, okay, I'll be right back," Wang Shen replied briefly before hanging up. He took a deep breath, looked at the scenery again, and turned to walk towards his car.

When Wang Shen arrived at his office, he saw Liang Zichen standing at the door with a stack of documents, waiting for him. Wang Shen pushed open the door and, before even pouring water, asked, "Have you discovered something?"

After placing a pile of documents on Wang Shen's desk, Liang Zichen nodded and said, "Yes, many investigation results have come out."

After finishing speaking, Liang Zichen picked up a document from the table and said, "This is the forensic report from the forensic department regarding the fingerprints on the doorknob and telephone."

After saying this, Liang Zichen put down the document in his hand and picked up another document from the table, saying, "This is Xu Xiaolin's call logs during the target period, as well as the chat logs of all her communication accounts." Following this was Zhao Zimo's file and Han Lin's bank card transfer records.

"However, there is still no definitive information regarding Han Lin's autopsy report. Dr. Wu may need more time," Liang Zichen explained regarding the autopsy report that has not yet been obtained.

Wang Shen looked at the stack of documents on the table and nodded in satisfaction.

"Captain Wang, which investigation results would you like to hear first?" Liang Zichen asked Wang Shen.

Wang Shen glanced at the documents on the table, thought for a moment, and said, "Let's start with Xu Xiaolin's social media activity." In Wang Shen's mind, he still felt that Xu Xiaolin was somewhat suspicious.

Hearing Wang Shen's words, Liang Zichen nodded and pulled out the document about Xu Xiaolin from the pile of files in front of him. "According to Xu Xiaolin's call records, she received three calls during the target time period, but did not make any calls. In addition, no suspicious content was found on any of her social media accounts, except for interactions with readers."

"Oh?" Wang Shen looked at Liang Zichen in surprise.

Liang Zichen smiled, nodded, and continued, "I also had the forensic department investigate the owners of these three incoming calls, and their identities have been confirmed. All three calls originated from Xu Xiaolin's agent. I've already called the agent to get a detailed understanding of the conversations, which were mainly work-related, and I think there's basically no problem. I've also recorded the calls; Captain Wang, I can send them to you later if you need them." Wang Shen explained everything about Xu Xiaolin's phone calls in one go, completely and carefully.

"Your work ability is truly remarkable, and your efficiency is exceptionally high," Wang Shen praised Liang Zichen without reservation. After a moment of silence, Wang Shen continued, "So, Xu Xiaolin did indeed spend the entire day yesterday in Qi Huan's room. This rules out her as the one who made the harassing phone call. An investigation of her social media records also largely rules out her as the mastermind behind it all." Thinking this, Wang Shen frowned, the question that had been lingering in his mind resurfacing. Could the mastermind be Han Mo's former lover? The one who murdered Han Mo? But who was this person? Why couldn't they find even a single clue?

"Captain Wang," Liang Zichen called softly to Wang Shen, interrupting his thoughts. Wang Shen snapped out of his reverie and said, "Tell me about the clues regarding the doorknob and the fingerprints on that telephone."
