The house isn't large, but it's quite spacious for city dwellers. From the outside, it looks like a weathered old-fashioned house. However, the interior has clearly been meticulously renovated, giving it a luxurious feel.
This was probably renovated by Han Lin after he rented the house, to make Dean Fu Ju and the children more comfortable. But the living room now made Liang Zichen frown.
Almost all the drawers in the living room were open, and their contents were scattered all over the floor. Perhaps not only the living room, but also the kitchen. Looking at the scene before him, Liang Zichen's first thought was: Had the house been broken into?
Not long after, Liang Zichen shook his head, dismissing his foolish guess. If it was a thief, and if they stole so blatantly, there were only two possibilities. First, the thief knew no one was home. Second, the thief wasn't professional enough.
Wait a minute, Liang Zichen suddenly paused. Indeed, Liang Zichen had been focusing all his attention on the dangerous person he had guessed was in the house, and hadn't noticed where the owner of the house was.
There was a staircase to Liang Zichen's right not far away. The lights were off, and the room was dim. Liang Zichen walked to the top of the staircase and glanced up the narrow staircase, but he didn't hear any noise.
Liang Zichen had already stepped onto the first step, then stepped back. He glanced at the end of the stairs again, took a few steps back, and then looked at the mess on the floor of the room.
Liang Zichen put on a glove and slowly walked into the living room. He squatted down beside the coffee table. Scattered on the floor were some fairy tale books and toys. Judging from these things, this house must belong to Dean Fu Ju and Han Lin's child.
Liang Zichen put down his book and looked up to see the floor lamp lying on its side beside the sofa. He walked over to the lamp and crouched down to examine it more closely. The lampshade was made of high-quality stained glass, but now, most of it was completely shattered into glass shards.
Liang Zichen stared at the desk lamp in front of him, his brow furrowing unconsciously. Had the lamp fallen over by itself? Impossible. Had someone who broke into the room accidentally knocked it over? Impossible. Liang Zichen immediately dismissed both guesses in his mind.
Liang Zichen shifted his gaze to where the lamp should have been placed. If the lamp had been accidentally knocked over, the lamp stand should have fallen to a spot near its original location. However, the lamp was now lying more than a meter away from its original position.
Furthermore, if the lamp had fallen normally, even with a glass lampshade, it would at most have shattered. Instead, there are so many shards of glass scattered on the floor as we see today.
Liang Zichen pursed his lips, picked up a shard of glass, and examined it closely for a while. Based on these signs, Liang Zichen began to mentally reconstruct the scene, just like Wang Shen. For so many shards to appear, the lamp must have been struck by a tremendous force.
But where did this immense force come from? Liang Zichen observed the shape of the lamp for a while. The lamp was a floor lamp with a long, thin stem… Could it be that someone used this lamp as a weapon to attack the other person? After the other person dodged, the lampshade collided violently with the ground, causing the current situation?
Judging from the location where the lamp fell and the extent of the glass shattering, this speculation is reasonable.
Liang Zichen put down the shards of glass he was holding and turned to examine the several open cabinets. The cabinets were almost completely emptied, their contents scattered on the floor. Judging from this, the person who broke in was clearly looking for something. But what was he looking for?
Liang Zichen stood up from the floor and went into the kitchen. Like the living room, the kitchen hadn't escaped the wreckage. However, while the living room was littered with children's books, the kitchen was mostly filled with condiments.
This wasn't a simple theft, Liang Zichen was almost certain. No thief would be so desperate as to raid even the kitchen. But what was this person's motive? Where were Dean Fu Ju and Han Lin's child? And what about the lamp? Did Dean Fu Ju fight with the thief?
Liang Zichen shook his head, which was filled with chaotic thoughts, and then left the kitchen. He went back to the stairwell and pressed the light switch on the wall. Instantly, the hallway was illuminated by a warm yellow light.
The stairs were made of wood, and each step Liang Zichen took made a tinkling sound. Living in this open field, going up and down the stairs alone at night could be quite eerie.
The tinkling sounds continued, and after a few steps, Liang Zichen finally reached the second floor. He walked around the stairs to the second floor. There were three rooms on the second floor: two bedrooms and a study. All three doors were open, but Liang Zichen couldn't feel happy.
One of the bedroom doors opened normally, with the door frame secured by a doorstop. However, the way the doors to the remaining bedroom and the study opened made Liang Zichen frown. Both of these doors were ajar, like front doors, or simply put, half-open.
Liang Zichen thought to himself that Director Fu Ju had worked at the orphanage for decades and should have good living habits. Besides, Director Fu Ju wouldn't allow the door to be in such a state to prevent the children from bumping into things.
Liang Zichen first walked to a half-open bedroom door and gently pushed it open. The bedroom, like the living room, was a mess. Even the bed sheets were overturned on the floor.
Liang Zichen entered the room, his gaze immediately falling on the jewelry box scattered on the floor. He quickly walked over to it. The lid was open, and beside it lay a jade bracelet, now broken in two. Besides the bracelet, the jewelry box contained scattered gold jewelry, mainly bracelets and necklaces.
Liang Zichen guessed that these items were probably bought by Han Lin for Dean Fu Ju. However, Liang Zichen's focus wasn't on that. He concentrated all his attention on the jewelry scattered on the floor.
Liang Zichen was now absolutely certain that the person who broke into the house wasn't just a simple thief, but someone who wanted to steal something. It seemed that Han Lin's death hadn't satisfied the killer. The killer had still targeted Dean Fu Ju and Han Lin's child.
Furthermore, judging from the jewelry scattered on the floor, Liang Zichen could glean another crucial piece of information about the murderer. This murderer was not short of money and might even possess a certain social standing. The fact that the intruder, whether a professional thief or not, remained completely unmoved by the jewelry suggests that these items held no appeal for him.
At this moment, Liang Zichen was startled when a sound suddenly came from behind him.
