Liang Zichen frowned, glanced at Wang Shen, and then lowered his head and fell silent.
After about a minute, Wang Shen spoke first. "I understand your thinking. You think that calling that old man over might be able to dissuade Xu Wen from her extreme behavior. But you forgot, that old man has neither the obligation nor the need to get involved in this matter."
"Captain Wang, I understand everything you've said. I won't make the same mistake again." Liang Zichen looked up at Wang Shen, a remorseful expression on his face.
"Alright, I'll hold your punishment in reserve for now and see how you behave in the future." Wang Shen looked at Liang Zichen and nodded.
"Captain Wang, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now." After saying that, Liang Zichen turned around and prepared to leave Wang Shen's office.
"Wait a minute." Wang Shen called out to Liang Zichen. "Am I that scary? Why are you so frightened?" Wang Shen joked, then stood up from his chair.
"No, no." Liang Zichen smiled and gently scratched the back of his head.
"There's another important matter I wanted to discuss with you today," Wang Shen said, handing the file to Liang Zichen. "Take a look at this first."
Liang Zichen glanced at Wang Shen with a puzzled look, then opened the file in his hand. His gaze swept quickly across the file, his expression shifting between seriousness and confusion. "Is this the female writer's case?" After a few minutes, Liang Zichen looked up at Wang Shen and asked.
"Yes, you've heard of this case too? You were probably still in police academy at the time, right?" Wang Shen nodded.
"Yes, because I used to really like this female author's novels, so when I heard on the news the next day that she had committed suicide, I couldn't quite believe it. According to the file, does the bureau suspect that the case back then wasn't just a simple suicide?" When Liang Zichen was in police academy, many of the students were fans of Han Mo.
“That’s right, go back to the last few pages of the file and take a look.”
Following Wang Shen's instructions, Liang Zichen flipped to the last few pages of the file. "These are some recent cases. Could these cases be related to that female writer's case?" Liang Zichen was present at most of the recent crime scenes, so he was quite familiar with them.
"It's hard to say for sure right now. I've recorded in detail the connections, suspicious points, and relationships between the people in several cases here. You can take this document back and study it carefully. After you've finished studying it, you can become my assistant and work together to solve Han Mo's case."
"Ah? Yes!" This was Liang Zichen's first time fully involved in a case. Previously, he had mostly done odd jobs, such as sealing off crime scenes and collecting evidence. Therefore, Liang Zichen was quite excited after hearing Wang Shen's words and immediately saluted him.
"Alright." Wang Shen waved his hand, walked to Liang Zichen's side, patted him on the shoulder and said, "It's lunchtime, I'll treat you to dinner." After saying that, Wang Shen walked out of his office.
"Ah!" Liang Zichen exclaimed in surprise. He glanced at Wang Shen's back and immediately followed behind him. "No, no need. I should be the one treating you to dinner."
"Alright, alright, the important thing isn't the food, it's the restaurant." With that, Wang Shen quickly walked towards his car.
Wang Shen drove for a short while, then gradually slowed down and stopped in front of a familiar restaurant. The four large gold characters "Spicy Restaurant" stood out against the red background of the signboard. Wang Shen parked the car and walked into "Spicy Restaurant" with Liang Zichen.
"Captain Wang, this restaurant is really high-class." Liang Zichen glanced at the restaurant's ambiance and exclaimed.
"Hello sir, are you two?" Before Wang Shen could even speak to Liang Zichen, a well-dressed hostess approached him with a smile and asked.
Yes, are there any seats available today?
"Yes, there are," the hostess replied with a smile.
“Well then.” Wang Shen glanced around the hall. “Can we sit there?” Wang Shen pointed to a window seat not far away.
"Yes, sir, please follow me." The hostess slightly turned her body, gestured with her right hand, and led Wang Shen and Liang Zichen to their designated seats.
The tableware on the table was all classic celadon. As soon as the two men sat down, another waiter brought hot towels and jasmine tea. "This is our menu; gentlemen, please take your time looking at it." After saying this, the two waiters handed over the menu and then stepped back several paces, not urging them to order.
"Captain Wang, the dishes here are so expensive." Liang Zichen glanced at the menu, looked up at Wang Shen, and said softly.
"Anyway, we don't eat this often, so make yourself at home," Wang Shen said with a smile.
"By the way, Captain Wang, what did you mean when you said the important thing wasn't the food but this restaurant?"
“This is a shop that Han Mo frequents; you could call it her personal shop.” Wang Shen picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip of jasmine tea, and nodded in satisfaction.
"Do you think there might be the clues we're looking for here?" Liang Zichen looked at Wang Shen with a sudden realization.
“I investigated this place once before, but there are still some questions I haven’t been able to figure out. After we finish this meal, we’ll visit the restaurant manager again.” As Wang Shen said this, both he and Liang Zichen’s attention was drawn to a waiter next to them.
The waiter was wearing the restaurant's uniform, but he was also wearing very heavy gloves. In one hand, he carried a delicate red tray with a whole chicken on it. The chicken looked like it was partially cooked, almost done. In his other hand, he held a bottle of liquor. Wang Shen glanced at the English on the bottle but couldn't make it out; he guessed it was a type of spirit.
"Captain Wang, do you smell a pungent odor?" Liang Zichen frowned and asked Wang Shen.
"I smell it, it smells like gasoline." Wang Shen nodded, his face full of doubt. Wang Shen waved to a waiter not far away, and the waiter immediately came over. "Hello, I just saw one of your employees holding a chicken. May I ask what dish that is?" Wang Shen leaned forward and pointed to the back of the waiter who hadn't gone far.
The waitress standing next to Wang Shen smiled and said, "This is our restaurant's signature dish, Flaming Chicken." As she spoke, she flipped open the menu in front of Wang Shen and pointed to the Flaming Chicken on the menu, adding, "You see, this is the dish. If you order this dish, our staff will perform the Flaming Chicken for you."
"A flamingo performance?" Liang Zichen looked at the waitress with a face full of surprise.
"Yes, our staff will demonstrate the roasting process of the flaming chicken to you right here. This dish is a complete feast for the eyes and the palate, with a crispy exterior and tender interior—it's excellent." The waitress smiled as she enthusiastically recommended her specialty dish.
"Okay, then give it to us..." Before Wang Shen could finish speaking, a scream echoed throughout the entire "Spicy Restaurant".
