Zheng Wu moved his face away from Sang's, slowly turning his head to reveal the glaring scar on his left cheek. "Who are you?" Zheng Wu raised an eyebrow, his mouth twisted, and he said viciously.
Zheng Wu glanced at Wang Shen, then turned his gaze to Xu Xiaolin standing to the side. "You, you," Zheng Wu stammered, unable to utter a complete sentence. The arrogant look on his face had vanished without a trace, and the twisted scar on his cheek had relaxed and smoothed out.
"Hello, please cooperate with our investigation." Wang Shen took out his police badge from his pocket and held it out to Zheng Wu.
Zheng Wu shifted his gaze from Xu Xiaolin's face and quickly glanced at Wang Shen's identification. Suddenly, Zheng Wu removed his hand from Sang's shoulder, shoved Wang Shen hard, and dashed towards the door. Wang Shen immediately reached out to grab him, but missed.
"She's yours now." Wang Shen didn't turn his head, but his words were clearly directed at Xu Xiaolin. As he spoke, Wang Shen pushed open the door and rushed out. The atmosphere in the bar wasn't disrupted at all by this unexpected little incident, except for Xu Xiaolin and Sang, who were standing there staring at each other.
The rain intensified, making it difficult for Wang Shen to see clearly during the chase. Zheng Wu seemed very familiar with the area, weaving left and right through the alleys, almost shaking off Wang Shen. Wang Shen and Zheng Wu splashed water everywhere they stepped on puddles. The two figures chased each other in the dark rain, causing the few pedestrians on the road to dodge. Zheng Wu's figure flickered under a streetlamp before disappearing around another corner. Wang Shen suddenly stopped, glanced at the alleyway to his right, and rushed in. A few minutes later, separated by a few meters of rain, Wang Shen and Zheng Wu appeared face to face. Zheng Wu couldn't stop, and his stamina was indeed waning. Just as Zheng Wu was about to turn and continue his escape, Wang Shen was already behind him, a professional grappling move gripping Zheng Wu's wrist, causing Zheng Wu to howl in pain.
"Why are you running!" The rain had already soaked Wang Shen's hair, but the force in his hand only increased.
"Ouch, ouch, be gentle! I won't run anymore! I won't run anymore, okay?" Zheng Wu cried out, begging for mercy.
Wang Shen calmed his breathing, gradually reducing the pressure on his hand. Under the streetlight, a cold glint flashed before Wang Shen's eyes. He swiftly turned to the side, dodging the blade aimed at him, and simultaneously reached out his right hand, twisting Zheng Wu's wrist. A clink was heard, and the dagger that had been in Zheng Wu's hand fell to the ground. Zheng Wu's body twisted with the force of Wang Shen's grip, his legs buckled, and he knelt on one knee. Wang Shen immediately took out handcuffs from his waist and cuffed them to Zheng Wu's wrists. To avoid attracting too much attention, Wang Shen took off his coat and covered the handcuffs.
"Go!" Wang Shen shoved Zheng Wu. Zheng Wu leaned forward and took a step, landing squarely in a puddle. With a splash, a large wave rose from the puddle.
The scar on Zheng Wu's face changed along with his expression. Helplessness, disappointment, and anger made the scar even more twisted and hideous, like a centipede that had come to life and clung to Zheng Wu's face.
As Wang Shen escorted Zheng Wugang to the alley entrance, they saw Xu Xiaolin and Sang already standing there, holding umbrellas and waiting for them. Xu Xiaolin gently placed one hand on Sang's shoulder, while the umbrella was in Sang's hand. "Did you catch him?" Xu Xiaolin asked.
"Okay." Wang Shen nodded. "Let's talk about it when we get back to the police station."
The interrogation room wasn't dimly lit, and a cup of hot water sat in front of Zheng Wu, though it seemed to have cooled down. Wang Shen and Zheng Wu remained locked in this stalemate for an hour. Zheng Wu, surprisingly stubborn, refused to speak. Suddenly, Zheng Wu picked up the water cup and stood up. Perhaps he intended to throw the cup at Wang Shen to vent his anger. In any case, he didn't succeed. The instant he stood up, he was immediately subdued by the police officer standing beside him.
“I advise you to answer my questions properly. If you’re not involved in the case, you can leave here sooner.” Wang Shen picked up his water glass, took a sip, and said slowly.
"I didn't do anything! I don't know anything! What right do you have to arrest me? I want to see a lawyer!"
"Sure, that's your right, but only after you answer my question."
"I don't know anything!" Zheng Wu shouted hysterically.
"What were you doing at the home of the deceased Han Mo around 10:30 p.m. on June 18th, three years ago?"
"I don't know anything about Han Mo."
“If you cannot explain why you went to the deceased’s house, we have every reason to list you as the first suspect.”
Zheng Wu tilted his head, refusing to answer Wang Shen's question.
“Take a look at this, maybe it will remind you of something.” Wang Shen took out a piece of paper and placed it in front of Zheng Wu. “I advise you to take a look, and then you can give us a reasonable explanation. Otherwise, based on this piece of paper alone, we will have sufficient grounds to convict you.”
Upon hearing Wang Shen's words, Zheng Wu's arrogant expression slowly vanished. He slightly tilted his head, glancing at the paper in front of him. It was clear that Zheng Wu's gaze lingered on the first few lines. Finally, Zheng Wu straightened his head, picked up the paper with one hand, and held it up to his eyes, carefully examining each line. Time passed slowly, and Zheng Wu's expression grew increasingly somber.
"How did you get this?" Zheng Wu threw the paper on the table, not even looking at Wang Shen.
