Chapter Fourteen: Impulsiveness is the Devil

Zheng Wu kicked Han Shuang in the stomach. Han Shuang's face contorted in pain, and beads of sweat rolled down her cheeks from her temples. She clutched her stomach, coughed lightly, and her lips turned deathly pale. "I was truly blind back then. But I'll make you pay! I'm going to sue you in court..."

Before Han Shuang could finish speaking, another slap landed on her face. Blood slowly seeped from the corner of Han Shuang's mouth. Han Shuang spat a mouthful of bloody saliva onto the ground, then grinned, revealing her bloodied gums. "You raped my daughter, I'm going to sue you!"

"What nonsense are you spouting! You! If you keep talking nonsense, you bastard!" Zheng Wu's voice trembled, and his hand, pointing at Han Shuang, waved incessantly in the air. Zheng Wu glared venomously at Han Shuang, frantically grabbing at his sparse hair as he paced back and forth in the room. Han Shuang simply watched Zheng Wu and smiled, thoroughly enjoying his agitated state.

Suddenly, Zheng Wu stopped, his eyes turning cold as he stared at the gleaming fruit knife on the table. He rushed to the table and grabbed the knife. Then, he abruptly turned and looked coldly at Han Shuang.

"What do you want to do? I'm warning you, you..." Han Shuang saw Zheng Wu's eyes and was frightened; she saw the fruit knife in Zheng Wu's hand and was terrified. Before she could finish speaking, Han Shuang stood up from her chair, trying to escape towards the door. At this moment, how could Zheng Wu allow Han Shuang to escape? As soon as Han Shuang stood up from her chair, Zheng Wu had already run in front of her and pushed her back into the chair.

"Ah!" With just a brief cry, the not-so-sharp knife severed Han Shuang's carotid artery. Red blood slowly flowed from the blade. The warm blood touched Zheng Wu's skin, making him even more ferocious. Zheng Wu pulled the knife out and plunged it into Han Shuang's abdomen again. He pulled it out, and then stabbed her again. Zheng Wu's eyes were completely bloodshot; he gritted his teeth and let out a ferocious laugh. As he stabbed, he muttered, "Go ahead and report me! Go ahead and report me!"

This frenzied murder lasted for an unknown period of time before finally stopping. In the end, probably because Zheng Wu was completely exhausted and the alcohol in his head had mostly worn off, he ceased his mad actions.

Zheng Wu finally regained consciousness, collapsing to the ground and throwing away the bloodstained knife in his hand. Looking at his hands covered in blood and Han Shuang's corpse on the chair, his face turned deathly pale. Zheng Wu frantically yanked at his hair; the intense pain told him this wasn't a dream. Zheng Wu staggered to his feet, looking at the blood-soaked floor and Han Shuang's body, and immediately began cleaning up the scene.

A week later, Zheng Wu finished processing all the evidence of the murder and chose to report the case, falsely claiming that his wife had gone missing. Strangely, despite such a clumsy method, Zheng Wu escaped unscathed. The biggest contributor to this was none other than Han Mo.

Zheng Wu finished recounting the story from many years ago. The process of Zheng Wu burying the body had already been recorded in the video. Everyone, including Zheng Wu, fell silent in the face of this long-standing cold case.

"Take him away first," Wang Shen waved to the officer beside him. Xu Xiaolin had already sent the video to Wang Shen's phone. Wang Shen watched the entire video again. After watching the video, Wang Shen continued to review the documents related to Zheng Wu's murder of his wife, which was also the case of Han Shuang's disappearance many years ago. Wang Shen discovered a very important clue in it.

"Hello, is this Xiao Li? Yes, I have a case from years ago that I need you to take some people to investigate. Yes, I'll send you the location and task later. Okay." Wang Shen picked up the phone and instructed his men to go to the site where Zheng Wu buried his body years ago to see if they could dig up Han Shuang's remains.

"Do you know the location in this video?" Wang Shen pointed to the black screen that was paused. "You should know, right?" Wang Shen added.

"Three kilometers north of the eastern suburbs," Xu Xiaolin reported the location of the burial.

Wang Shen nodded and sent a text message on his phone. Soon after, he put his phone away, picked up the documents about Han Shuang, and pulled out a sheet of paper. "Take a look at this," he said. "It should be Han Mo's confession regarding the Han Shuang case from back then."

Xu Xiaolin took the documents and read them through from beginning to end. The testimony showed that Han Mo had pleaded not guilty for Zheng Wu and provided an alibi. Otherwise, given Zheng Wu's clumsy methods, he would have had no chance of escaping the law. Xu Xiaolin sighed and handed the papers back to Wang Shen.

"After reading this, do you have any questions?" Wang Shen put the paper back into the file folder.

"I don't see anything wrong with it," Xu Xiaolin said with a smile and shook her head.

"Let's change the question. This video records the entire process of Zheng Wu's burial back then. Who filmed this video? It couldn't have been you, could it?"

Xu Xiaolin stared at Wang Shen for a while, then looked away without saying a word.

“If this video was filmed by a stranger, there’s only one possibility: curiosity. The outcome would generally be one of two things: either they forget about it out of fear, or they report it to the police out of a sense of justice. But based on the current situation, the appearance of this video doesn’t fit either possibility.” Wang Shen neatly tidied the document and put it back into the file folder. “If this video wasn’t filmed by a stranger, then who could it be? The only one I can think of is Han Mo. But since Han Mo witnessed everything, why didn’t she hand the video over to the police at the time? Instead, she helped Zheng Wu with his defense and alibi. Moreover, Zheng Wu murdered Han Shuang’s own mother. Can you provide a reasonable explanation for this huge contradiction?”
