Hearing Wang Shen's words, the middle-aged woman leaned out and glanced towards Han Mo's house. She immediately pulled back, her body trembling dramatically, and shook her head. "That family? They've been dead for years. Besides, I don't know that family at all. If I hadn't seen the news, I wouldn't have known that a celebrity lived there."
"On the night of June 18th, three years ago, the night of the incident, did you hear any noise?" Wang Shen ignored the middle-aged woman's exaggerated movements and expressions and went straight to the point.
“That day…” The middle-aged woman raised her head slightly, her brows furrowed, as if trying to recall what happened that day. “Ah!” The middle-aged woman clapped her hands. “That day was really quite turbulent.” The middle-aged woman’s face suddenly lit up, probably because she had some gossip to share.
"Not peaceful? Sister, could you explain that more clearly?"
"That house was very noisy that night." The middle-aged woman touched her hair, then suddenly stopped what she was doing, looking shy, and said in a low voice, "But, that house is never quiet. Young people, I can understand." After saying that, the middle-aged woman covered her mouth and laughed shyly.
Wang Shen wasn't interested in the gossip the middle-aged woman was talking about and immediately steered the conversation back on track. "Was it very noisy in the house that night? Sister, did you hear exactly what happened?" Wang Shen was eager for the woman's answer. He figured that, given her gossipy nature, she would have inquired about it that night.
"Sigh." The middle-aged woman sighed, sounding somewhat disinterested. "The soundproofing in this house isn't great, but it does have some effect. I listened to them pressed against the wall the other day, and I really couldn't hear what they were saying. But they must have been arguing, and arguing quite fiercely." The middle-aged woman looked at Wang Shen seriously, and nodded earnestly after speaking.
"Them? Who are you talking about?"
"Of course it's that couple." The middle-aged woman revealed her disdain for Wang Shen, unable to believe that Wang Shen had listened for so long without noticing the entanglement between the man and woman in the room.
"Have you seen that man before?" Wang Shen asked excitedly, his speech becoming faster.
Disappointingly, the middle-aged woman shook her head. "I've seen the woman once or twice; she's truly a great beauty. As for the man, it's strange, I've never run into him even once. I think they're doing it on purpose. The man deliberately avoids us, coming and going late at night. But thinking about it carefully, I can understand. Everyone knows what's going on between men and women. A woman so young and already so successful—she must be willing to spend money or her man." The middle-aged woman spoke furtively, her eyes constantly glancing at Han Mo's door, as if worried that Han Mo's ghost might overhear her. However, such worries didn't stop the middle-aged woman from describing the situation with great enthusiasm.
After listening to the middle-aged woman's words, Wang Shen became even more certain of his suspicions. There was definitely a man, unknown to the public, involved in Han Mo's social network. As for who this man was and what role he played in Han Mo's life, that remained uncertain. When the police searched Han Mo's house, they found no trace of a man. Wang Shen guessed that the evidence must have been carefully removed. But who was responsible for removing the evidence? If it really was this mysterious man, then the possibility of Han Mo being murdered was extremely high.
"How long did their argument probably end?"
"It's around a little past nine o'clock, I think," the middle-aged woman said absentmindedly, fiddling with her fingernails as she answered Wang Shen's question.
"So much time has passed, yet you still remember the exact time so clearly?" Wang Shen looked at the middle-aged woman with some disbelief.
“Of course, my memory is excellent. If you don’t believe me, you can go find that damn junk collector who’s in charge of our area. I ran into him when I went downstairs.” The middle-aged woman rolled her eyes at Wang Shen. “And that night, I was just about to go downstairs to throw out the trash when I ran into that man.”
"What? You saw that man?" Wang Shen's eyes widened; this was truly an unexpected bonus.
“Yes.” The middle-aged woman nodded blankly, somewhat confused by Wang Shen’s excited reaction. “However, it was just a back view.” The middle-aged woman then looked at her nails and rubbed the nail polish on them.
"His back view?" Wang Shen looked slightly disappointed. "Could you describe his approximate height, what clothes he was wearing, whether he was fat or thin, what his hairstyle was like, and whether he wore glasses?"
The middle-aged woman looked up at Wang Shen again, her mouth slightly agape. She was clearly bewildered by the barrage of questions Wang Shen had posed. She closed her mouth, composed herself, and looked at Wang Shen, saying, "How could I possibly see that clearly? No, there's no way I could have seen any of that. When I opened the door, he was already at the top of the stairs. He was already there." As she spoke, she pointed to the dark corner of the stairs behind Wang Shen. "That night, that damn stairwell light was broken. It was pitch black; I could only make out a rough outline." Then, a light suddenly shone in her eyes as she continued, "But that person probably wasn't fat. I bet he was a handsome guy, just like you, officer." The middle-aged woman chuckled.
Wang Shen had already opened his notebook, pen in hand, ready to write something. But after hearing the middle-aged woman's description, his excitement vanished instantly. Based on the descriptions of the garbage collector and the middle-aged woman, the man they were both talking about was the same man. This man must have a strong connection to Han Mo's suicide.
