Chapter Seventy-Two: The Scars Behind

"Wow!" Liang Zichen tried his best to suppress his surprise, but still exclaimed softly beside Wang Shen. Looking around, the infinity pool faced a vast expanse of water. Several rows of buffet tables were set up not far from the pool, each with attentive service from waiters. The area around the pool was quite large, yet the number of people was well-controlled, and it didn't feel crowded at all. Most of the partygoers were handsome men and beautiful women, all wearing swimsuits; some were playing in the pool, while others chatted in the lounge area.

"Oh no!" Liang Zichen looked at Wang Shen with a face full of disappointment.

"Why are you so easily startled? What's wrong?" Wang Shen looked at Liang Zichen with a puzzled expression.

"I forgot my swimming trunks." Liang Zichen leaned a little closer to Wang Shen and whispered in his ear.

"Oh," Wang Shen shook his head, responding nonchalantly.

"Captain Wang, don't you have any swim trunks either?" Liang Zichen looked at Wang Shen in surprise.

“No.” Wang Shen’s tone was completely flat. “I never even thought about swimming when I came here.” Wang Shen shrugged.

"Such a beautiful pool, it would be a shame not to go for a swim," Liang Zichen thought to himself as he glanced at the people in the pool.

"Hello." At this moment, a waiter walked over from not far away.

"Hello," Wang Shen said, looking at the waiter standing in front of him.

"Would you two like any assistance?" the waiter asked Wang Shen with a pleasant smile.

"without……"

"Yes, we do." Before Wang Shen could finish saying "no," Liang Zichen interrupted him. Liang Zichen walked up to the waiter, scratched his head, glanced at the waiter, and asked somewhat embarrassedly, "Do you sell swim trunks here?"

"Hello, we have prepared brand new swim trunks for each guest. Please follow me." The waiter stepped aside, bent over, and extended his right hand in a gesture of invitation.

Wang Shen waved his hand at Liang Zichen and said, "Go ahead, I don't need it."

Liang Zichen wanted to say a few words of advice to Wang Shen, but before he could even speak, a familiar voice came from behind him. "What's wrong, Officer Wang? Still acting all serious even here."

Wang Shen and Liang Zichen looked in the direction of the sound. Not far away, they saw Xu Xiaolin walking towards Wang Shen, arm in arm with Qi Huan and holding a wine glass in the other.

"Wow! Sister Xu, you look even prettier than the models in those magazines in this swimsuit!" Liang Zichen exclaimed, not holding back his praise as he looked at the beautiful woman in the swimsuit before him.

"Handsome young man, you have such a sweet tongue," Xu Xiaolin said with a smile, taking a sip of her drink.

"But, Sister Xu, you're covering yourself up too much. Look at others," Liang Zichen said, glancing at the people in the pool and then at Xu Xiaolin.

"Hey kid, don't tease your sister. Why would your boss, such a serious person, choose you as his subordinate?" Xu Xiaolin said with a smile, showing no sign of blaming Liang Zichen. "But Wang Shen, you should learn from this handsome young man. Aren't you tired of being so rigid all the time?" Xu Xiaolin glanced at Wang Shen and said irritably.

“Since we’re here today, no one can escape. Look, even our CEO Qi has changed into a swimsuit. How can you not change?” Xu Xiaolin glanced at Qi Huan beside her and then winked at Wang Shen. “Besides, Officer Wang’s ‘good looks’ are well-known. Are you really that reluctant to let everyone see them?” After Xu Xiaolin finished speaking, Qi Huan, who was standing to the side, covered her mouth and laughed.

Wang Shen glanced at Xu Xiaolin and nodded. "Then please lead the way," Wang Shen said to the waiter standing to the side.

Soon after, Wang Shen and Liang Zichen changed into their swimming trunks. They returned to the pool and saw Xu Xiaolin waving at them from the nearby rest area. Wang Shen and Liang Zichen walked over to Xu Xiaolin, and the four of them sat down around a table. A waiter promptly brought over four glasses of champagne.

"Oh right, I haven't introduced you yet. You've already met before. This is Qi Huan, the owner of 'Spicy Restaurant,' a strong woman, and also my best friend." Xu Xiaolin said with a smile as she took Qi Huan's arm.

"By the way, Qi Huan, one of these two handsome guys isn't very familiar to me, and the other is my childhood sweetheart." Xu Xiaolin pointed at Wang Shen, and then at Liang Zichen.

"Sister Xu, what you're saying is really hurtful. We haven't known each other for very long, but how can you measure feelings by time?" Liang Zichen pretended to be angry and downed the champagne in his glass. Soon, the waiter removed the empty glass and replaced it with a new one.

Before everyone could finish joking around, another familiar figure appeared in front of them.

"How did you end up here?" Qi Huan frowned and asked Han Lin, who was standing in front of her.

"This party just happens to be organized by a friend of mine. Of course, the main character today is still the great writer Xu. I also happen to be a fan of his books, so I'll have to ask you for an autograph later," Han Lin said with a smile, answering Qi Huan's question and then looking at Xu Xiaolin.

Xu Xiaolin simply smiled slightly without responding. Han Lin, however, was tactful. Seeing that neither Qi Huan nor Xu Xiaolin intended to invite him to sit down, he greeted them and prepared to leave. "Then, Mr. Qi, you two chat first. I'll go check on my friend." With that, Han Lin turned and walked towards the swimming pool.

Wang Shen and Liang Zichen listened to their conversation the whole time, while observing the changes in their facial expressions. "How come Manager Han has such a big scar on his back?" Liang Zichen glanced at Han Lin's back and noticed a very obvious scar.

Wang Shen had been looking down, intending to take a sip of the champagne beside him. But after hearing Liang Zichen's words, he immediately shifted his gaze to Han Lin's back. Han Lin had already walked some distance, but the scar on his back was still clearly visible and pierced Wang Shen's eyes. Wang Shen was startled, his back lifting off the chair as he straightened up and stared at the scar on Han Lin's back for a while.

Xu Wen (the secretary of psychologist Song Mu) suddenly appeared in Wang Shen's mind. Wang Shen frowned, closed his eyes slightly, and recalled his conversation with Xu Wen. "When I went to Han Mo's house... that man had a very obvious scar on his back." Xu Wen's words were clearly etched in Wang Shen's mind.

A man? A scar? Han Lin? Spicy Restaurant? Han Mo? Could there be some secret relationship between Han Lin and Han Mo? Is the man who has been hiding behind Han Mo the Han Lin standing before him? But when he first met Han Lin, he didn't seem to know Han Mo at all. Was it all an act? Wang Shen was briefly lost in thought.
