Chapter Fifteen: Truly Sisters

“Okay. Actually, you never intended to use our police force to help you find clues in Han Mo's case from the beginning, did you?” Wang Shen stared at Xu Xiaolin. Xu Xiaolin also looked at Wang Shen, but only smiled, without giving a yes or no answer. “Your purpose in participating in this investigation is actually Zheng Wu. Zheng Wu is your target, or rather…” Wang Shen paused, then continued, “or rather, Zheng Wu is just your first target.”

“You haven’t changed at all.” Xu Xiaolin looked at Wang Shen in front of her, her tone calm and natural. “You are still as smart and alert as before, and you can always maintain a calm judgment.”

"If my judgment is correct, please tell me what other targets you have? I... let me try to ask you another question. Who else do you know who has hurt Han Mo?" Wang Shen wasn't pleased by Xu Xiaolin's praise; instead, he felt slightly afraid of her calm demeanor.

"I don't know." Xu Xiaolin brought the coffee cup to her lips and shook her head.

"Where is Han Mo's diary? Are you in her possession?"

"I'm also looking for my sister's diary. If I had her diary, I could use it to find the relevant clues and people."

Just then, Wang Shen's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID; it was Lin Su. Wang Shen hung up, still looking at Xu Xiaolin. "In that case, leave the rest to the police." Wang Shen picked up his coffee cup, downed it in one gulp, and got up to leave.

"Although I can no longer participate in your police investigation, I will find out the truth in my own way." Xu Xiaolin looked out the window, her tone carrying an unyielding air.

Wang Shen stopped walking, but did not turn around. He listened to Xu Xiaolin's words before leaving the coffee shop.

Stepping out of the coffee shop, Wang Shen called Lin Su back. Sure enough, Lin Su also knew about Xu Xiaolin's book signing and was equally shocked by the fact that Xu Xiaolin and Han Mo were biological sisters. Lin Su shared his speculations about Xu Xiaolin on the phone, many of which coincided with Wang Shen's conclusions. Wang Shen also told Lin Su about his idea of canceling their agreement. However, Lin Su refused. Although Xu Xiaolin could no longer cooperate with the police in the investigation, Lin Su insisted on participating in the case. His reasoning remained the same: this was a rare opportunity for cross-industry collaboration. However, Lin Su made a small request: if the case was successfully solved, within reasonable limits, he could use this collaboration as a selling point for future novel promotions. Wang Shen smiled wryly to himself. Clearly, in Wang Shen's eyes, Lin Su was more of a businessman than a writer. However, having another capable helper wouldn't hurt. Therefore, Wang Shen agreed to Lin Su's request.

Zheng Wu received his due punishment through legal proceedings. This can be considered the biggest achievement since the reopening of the Han Mo case. The breakthrough in the Han Mo case lay in confirming homicide, which required ruling out suicide. And ruling out suicide would unlock the seemingly impenetrable locked room. To solve this, Wang Shen had been collecting clues near Han Mo's house for the past few days. However, as time passed, much evidence was gradually buried in the cracks of time.

That evening, Wang Shen had just finished some minor tasks and was preparing to try his luck near Han Mo's house again. He parked his car a short distance from Han Mo's home and walked towards it. Wang Shen glanced at the surroundings; the streetlights were dim, and there was no proper property management or surveillance. Living in such an area certainly increased the risk of encountering danger. Within minutes, Wang Shen reached the building where Han Mo lived. Previously, when he came to look for clues during the day, most of the neighbors were not home. Wang Shen wanted to take advantage of the night to try and gather information from the neighbors. At that moment, a construction vehicle with its headlights flashing drove up to Wang Shen. Wang Shen looked closely and realized it was a garbage truck. The truck stopped, and a man got out. This man, around fifty years old, was wearing work clothes and immediately walked familiarly towards the garbage bins by the wall.
