Chapter 28 A zombie that retains its humanity?
Shi Yi took out a map from her backpack and carefully studied the route to City Y. She lightly traced the map with her fingers, her eyes focused.
Finally, she raised her head and said to the other two, "Let's go. I'll lead the way."
The three of them walked cautiously, observing the surrounding environment vigilantly. Suddenly, a shopping mall appeared in front of them. Shi frowned, thinking that the shopping mall was crowded with people, so there must be a lot of zombies. So, she decided to speed up and pass this dangerous area as soon as possible.
However, just as they walked through the mall gate, a baby zombie appeared in their sight.
When the little zombie saw the people, it immediately let out a shrill cry. When the other zombies heard the cry, they ran towards them like crazy.
Jiang Xianchuan's face changed and he shouted, "Run!" The three of them ran desperately, trying to get rid of the zombies chasing them. But the zombies kept chasing them and the distance was getting closer and closer.
Jiang Xianchuan was extremely anxious. He ran while thinking about what to do. Suddenly, he saw an alley next to him and came up with an idea. He turned around and shouted to the others, "Go this way!" Then he rushed into the alley first.
After entering the alley, Jiang Xianchuan took advantage of the terrain and cleverly avoided the zombies' attacks. He nimbly shuttled between the narrow passages, making it difficult for the zombies to catch up.
At the same time, he did not forget to look back at his teammates to ensure that everyone was safe.
After a fierce chase and fight, the three finally managed to get rid of the zombies. They panted and leaned against the wall to rest.
Jiang Xianchuan wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to his companions: "We have to leave here quickly, otherwise there will be more zombies coming."
After a good rest, the three of them continued their journey. Along the way, they found that these zombies were completely different from those they had encountered in the community before. They seemed to be immersed in their own world, repeating the same thing over and over again.
Take the female zombie in the dress in front of her for example. She stood motionless in front of the mirror in the clothing store, holding a piece of clothing in her hand, and then banged her head against the mirror again and again, as if she wanted to break it. Every time she hit it, there was a crisp sound, but she had no intention of stopping.
This strange behavior confused the three people, and they couldn't help but wonder what these zombies had experienced to become like this. As they went deeper into the city center, they found that more and more zombies had similar behaviors.
Some zombies keep walking in circles, while others open and close the same door repeatedly. These strange behaviors make the whole city look particularly eerie and terrifying.
"Do you think these zombies are doing the last thing they did before they died? Or their favorite thing?" Shi Yi expressed her own guess, and her voice echoed in the silent street.
Shi Yi took a deep breath and continued, "Just like the woman we saw before, she was always looking at the mirror, maybe she was a beauty lover; and the old man, he was always looking at his watch, maybe he had something important to do before he died.
Jiang Xianchuan listened quietly, his brows slightly wrinkled, thinking about Shi Yi's words.
Suddenly, his eyes fell on the zombie in front of him pushing a baby stroller. This zombie was different from the other zombies. It did not attack them, but focused on pushing the stroller, as if protecting the child inside.
Jiang Xianchuan was overwhelmed with mixed emotions, and he couldn't help but think of his family and friends. If these zombies were really doing their last or favorite thing before they died, would they also be like this if they were infected? He didn't know, but he knew he had to find the answer.
Jiang Xianchuan decided to follow and take a look. He approached the zombie cautiously, holding his weapon tightly in his hand just in case.
When he approached the zombie, he found a hint of tenderness in the zombie's eyes, which shocked him. He never thought that zombies would have such a human side.
"Could it be..." Jiang Xianchuan muttered to himself, "They are not completely insane monsters?" Countless thoughts flashed through his mind, trying to understand this phenomenon. Perhaps, these zombies are not just walking corpses, they still retain some humanity and memory.
At this moment, a gust of wind blew up a corner of the blanket in the stroller. Jiang Xianchuan looked closely and saw that there was nothing in the stroller except a worn-out teddy bear.
An inexplicable sadness suddenly surged in his heart, and he realized that everything the zombie did was in vain. But at the same time, he also had a better understanding of the behavior of these zombies.
