Chapter 219 Letting Go

“I happened to run into Officer Bai. You girls had something to talk about, so I invited her to join us tonight. Let’s go, let’s go eat first.” Luo Yunhang was completely unaware that the two women had already exchanged hundreds of glances.

“Okay.” Yunyin readily agreed and then took Luo Yunhang’s arm.

Luo Yunhang considerately took the luggage from her hands, and the two looked like they were deeply in love.

Bai Yan's pupils contracted slightly as she saw the two behaving intimately. Her heart ached as if pricked by needles, and she regretted coming along, feeling humiliated.

The three of them found a tea restaurant recommended by a local. When the waiter saw that they were from out of town, he enthusiastically recommended the restaurant's most famous Guangdong specialty dishes.

Salt-baked chicken, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, honey-glazed char siu, steamed spare ribs with garlic, Hong Kong-style roast goose, crispy pork with sand ginger, stir-fried bok choy, and pork tripe and chicken soup.

Don't be fooled by the fact that the three of us ordered a lot; the portions were actually quite small, and we could easily finish them. That's typical of Cantonese cuisine: small portions, but exquisite.

"This sweet and sour pork with pineapple is quite good."

Yunyin really liked the sweet and sour pineapple pork.

"You like it? If you like it, after we finish eating, I'll go to the kitchen and ask the head chef how to make this dish. I guarantee you can eat it when you go back to Beijing." Luo Yunhang put a piece of sweet and sour pork on her plate and said affectionately.

Yunyin glanced at Bai Yan, who looked bewildered, and smiled with satisfaction. The discomfort in her heart had finally passed.

She had overthought things. It was obvious that Luo Yunhang had no other intentions towards the policewoman and only followed her out of a desire to help.

Fortunately, she didn't lose her temper, otherwise she would have pushed her man towards someone else.

Luo Yunhang had no feelings for Bai Yan, but her feelings for Luo Yunhang were not innocent.

Yunyin smiled gently and placed a piece of food on Luo Yunhang's plate as well: "This is delicious too."

She wanted Bai Yan to know that their relationship was good and that she had no right to interfere.

Bai Yan was indeed very surprised. In most families of this era, the man is the breadwinner and the woman is the homemaker. Very few men know how to cook, let alone a diamond bachelor like Luo Yunhang, who would actually take the initiative to cook for his girlfriend.

The more she learned about Luo Yunhang, the more she felt her heart falling for him.

"Is Officer Bai surprised?" Yunyin asked deliberately.

"I never expected that Comrade Luo would actually cook," Bai Yan said calmly, her expression returning to normal.

"Haha, Officer Bai, you don't know this, but my family used to be very poor. We almost couldn't even afford my college tuition. I paid for my tuition and came to Tianzhou City by using my wok-flipping skills."

"Now, when we have family gatherings or entertain guests, I sometimes cook for them myself," Luo Yunhang explained with a smile.

Bai Yan never expected that he had such a past. She only knew about his titles and outstanding qualities, and had never known about his unknown past.

Perhaps this is why Yunyin was able to stay by his side—to understand his past and participate in his future.

At this moment, Bai Yan truly envied this girl from the bottom of her heart.

Unfortunately, she arrived too late and missed it.

Through this meal, she realized that there was no possibility for her and Luo Yunhang to ever be together.

Bai Yan has her own pride. Before, she was just troubled by love and still held a glimmer of hope for Luo Yunhang. Now that she has completely lost hope, she has let go gracefully.

She told herself that tonight's meal was her last indulgence, and that she really couldn't have any inappropriate thoughts about seeing him again.

"Comrade Yun is so lucky to have such a wonderful partner. You must cherish her," Bai Yan said.

Yunyin smiled shyly.

“I’m also very lucky to have found someone like Yinyin. By the way, Officer Bai, are you married?” Luo Yunhang gave Yunyin a sense of security, which also made Bai Yan completely put her mind at ease.

"Not yet." Bai Yan shook her head gently.

She felt that she might find it difficult to accept anyone else in her life if she met someone who would amaze her too early in life.

The atmosphere was quite pleasant afterwards. After finishing the meal, when Luo Yunhang went to pay the bill, he didn't forget to ask the kitchen about the recipe and precautions for sweet and sour pork with pineapple.

This dish wasn't the chef's original creation; it's found all over Guangdong province, and there's no secret recipe. When the chef saw that someone from out of town liked their food, he enthusiastically explained how to make it to him.

Later, when Luo Yunhang returned to Tianzhou City, he actually made authentic sweet and sour pork with pineapple.

"Comrade Luo, Comrade Yun, you two have fun. I'm going back now. I still have some things to take care of." Bai Yan said goodbye decisively after finishing her meal.

Yunyin could see the change in her attitude after the meal, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

To be honest, Bai Yan is a formidable opponent.

Even without her, Bai Yan and Luo Yunhang would actually be a good match. Bai Yan is good-looking, spirited, and has a strong sense of justice. They also have similar jobs, so they would probably have a lot to talk about.

She and Luo Yunhang have fewer and fewer things in common now.

This is why she feels a sense of crisis.

Fortunately, Bai Yan is someone who can let go of things easily.

She actually quite admired this opponent.

"We haven't gone to the night market yet?" Luo Yunhang asked, puzzled. Didn't we agree to go for a stroll?

Yunyin tugged at Luo Yunhang's sleeve: "Officer Bai is busy with important matters, so don't force him."

“Yes, yes, then shall we meet again later?” Luo Yunhang said with a smile.

Bai Yan nodded and said nonchalantly, "Okay, I'll be going now."

As she turned to leave, a tear slid down Bai Yan's cheek, and her heart turned cold.

This was the first time in her life she had liked someone so much, and it ended without a trace.

Now I finally understand why the ancients wrote so many poems about being troubled by love.

The word "love" can only be truly understood by experiencing it firsthand; it is a pain that cuts to the bone.

Bai Yan knew that she would never fall in love with another person in her entire life.

Bai Yan's back view looked so lonely to Yun Yin.

She thought to herself, "I'm sorry, there's only one Luo Yunhang, I can't give him to you."

Luo Yunhang was a typical straight man; he didn't see the subtle hints between the two girls at all, let alone realize Bai Yan's feelings for him.

"Let's go! Let's go for a walk."

Yunyin felt sorry for Bai Yan; that big idiot, she knew nothing.

"Officer Bai likes you, do you know that?"

"What? No way?" Luo Yunhang's eyes widened, as if he had heard some earth-shattering news.

"Why not? Don't you know how charming you are? Don't mess with girls like that anymore. Keep your distance. I'll get jealous, and it's not good to hurt others," Yunyin said angrily.

"No... I keep my distance from other girls, but Officer Bai isn't just any girl!" In his mind, Officer Bai's gender was ambiguous, like a buddy, and he never thought about it that way!

"Officer Bai has been completely heartbroken by you this time."

"I'm innocent! I don't know anything!"
