Chapter 44 Small Business of Daily Necessities

"Boss, your price isn't right. If you add a little more, you could buy a new car."

The shop owner was actually taking advantage of the newcomer. Seeing that he knew his stuff, he immediately put on a smiling face and said, "Then can you give me a price?"

Liu Yihang simply held up two fingers: "Two hundred yuan."

"No, no, two hundred yuan is the price of a regular car. Look at my car, it's practically brand new." The shopkeeper shook his head frantically.

"Young man, if you really want it, add another fifty yuan. Two hundred and fifty yuan is all I have. That's the lowest I can go."

Liu Yihang was a little annoyed when he heard "250". If he didn't know that the boss didn't understand the meaning of "250", he would have felt that he was being insulted.

"Brother, how about ten yuan less?" Liu Yihang tentatively suggested.

The bald boss shook his head: "I'll only make ten yuan from this deal. Any less and we'll lose money. Absolutely not."

Although Liu Yihang didn't believe the boss, he thought the price was pretty good.

So they made the decision right away and took it on.

The owner even threw in two car locks, so it was a good deal overall.

"Young man, I really didn't make any money off you. Come back if you need anything else!"

"Sure, if any of my classmates need this, I'll recommend it to them."

Liu Yihang can lock the bicycle onto the tricycle and drive away directly.

Riding his newly bought tricycle, Liu Yihang navigated through the wholesale market.

He planned to buy some daily necessities to take back with him first.

Two sets of toiletries are needed: face towels, toothpaste and toothbrush, clothes rack, clothes hanger, bucket, basin, kettle, broom, shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, and laundry brush. One set is needed in the dormitory, and the other is needed at my parents' place.

He locked his car outside the shed and went inside alone. It was a completely different world inside, with all sorts of daily necessities displayed in front of the various wholesale shops.

Liu Yihang found a relatively large store and picked up a bucket and a basin at the entrance to inquire about their prices.

"Madam, how much are the buckets and basins?"

The plump proprietress was tidying up the goods when she looked up and said, "Ten yuan for a set. These are all made of refurbished rubber, very durable."

Liu Yihang asked about a few more items, none of which were particularly cheap, but they were a bit better than those in the mall.

That makes sense; wholesale markets can't possibly charge wholesale prices for everything, and retail prices are about the same as outside.

Just then, a young man rushed over in a panic and said to the proprietress, "Sister Hua, I need fifty more buckets, basins, kettles, and brooms each, the same as always! Could you please help me load them onto the truck? I'll take them right away, and I'll settle the payment tonight."

"Honey, Xiao Yang has placed an extra order: fifty sets each of buckets, basins, kettles, and brooms. Could you bring them to the door?" The landlady, known as "Beggar Sister," hurriedly called into the house.

Liu Yihang had an idea.

"Sister Hua, what price did you pay him for the water basin and bucket?"

The plump proprietress turned her head and glanced at him.

"That's the wholesale price, so don't even think about it. Ten yuan isn't expensive for you; you'll get at least twelve outside."

"I'd like to know your wholesale prices. If the prices are right, I'd like to buy some goods wholesale to resell," Liu Yihang said frankly.

The proprietress's eyes lit up, and she walked over with a smile, saying, "Young man, you have a good business sense. Let me tell you, if you put these things out at the university gate, they'll sell like hotcakes."

See that young man just now? He's a college student, probably a junior this year. Every year when college starts, he buys goods from me and sells them on campus, making a lot of money.

"A set of buckets and basins is seven yuan wholesale, a set of brooms and dustpans is six yuan, a kettle is thirteen yuan each, and towels range from one to three yuan..." The proprietress rattled off a list of prices.

After silently calculating in his mind, Liu Yihang said, "Boss lady, you shouldn't have given him this price, right? Maybe I should go ask at a few other shops nearby first."

He really wanted to ask again, since he had just visited one place.

Seeing that he was really about to leave, the proprietress quickly grabbed him and said, "Okay, okay, I'll give you a discount, okay? My shop is the biggest in the market, and our prices are the fairest."

This isn't our first time working together. Xiao Yang has worked with me many times before, and that's how I got the lowest price.

Today, Sister Hua is giving you a low price. If you sell this well, don't you dare go and buy from other places later—that's like using someone and then discarding them!

Hua Jie reluctantly showed Xiao Yang the prices on his purchase order.

Liu Yihang examined the items carefully and found that the price she gave to the student was about one yuan lower for each item than the price she had just quoted him.

Actually, Liu Yihang had this idea suddenly popped into his head when he saw the young man picking up the goods.

With four or five days left before the official start of school, the store can sell daily necessities to earn a little money while cleaning up the kitchen, purchasing supplies, and preparing for the opening.

Seeing that Sister Hua was willing to give him the same price as the young man, Liu Yihang didn't want to switch to another company and decided to place an order here directly.

According to his list of household necessities, he ordered fifty sets of basins and buckets, at six yuan per set.

Fifty sets of brooms and dustpans, five yuan per set;

Fifty kettles, twelve yuan each;

Fifty-five mid-priced towels, one yuan each;

I bought fifty-five toothbrushes at a mid-range price, each costing three cents.

I got two brands of toothpaste, Zhonghua and Lengsuanling, and they were both the same price, two yuan a box.

There are ten clothes racks in a bundle, so I took fifty, at one yuan and fifty cents each.

The clothes hanger support rods cost 50 cents each, and I took fifty of them.

The shampoo I got was the Bee & Flower brand, also fifty bottles, two yuan and fifty cents a bottle;

I got two brands of soap, Shanghai and Safeguard, fifty boxes in total, eight cents per box.

I bought a small bag of White Cat laundry detergent, two jin (1 kg) in total, fifty bags, one yuan per bag.

Fifty laundry brushes, 25 cents each.

The proprietress took out a small abacus from her pocket and fiddled with it with her chubby hands.

"That's 1049 yuan in total. How will you transport the goods? If you don't have a vehicle, I can have my husband help with the delivery, but you'll have to pay him a service fee." The shop owner was in a good mood after closing a wholesale deal, and she smiled broadly.

Liu Yihang has good mental arithmetic skills. He had already done the mental calculation when he reported the amount, and the landlady had not made a mistake. He opened his backpack, took out some coins and some bills, and handed them to Sister Hua.

"Sister Hua, there's no need for delivery. But could I come in two trips to unload the goods? My tricycle is a bit small and can't fit everything in one trip."

While counting the money, Sister Hua said, "Sure, no problem. Where did you park your car? My husband will be back soon after he finishes unloading Xiao Yang's goods, and I'll have him help you move it over."

Liu Yihang's tricycle was packed full, tied with nylon rope, and he had arranged to come back later to pick up the goods.

He rode his tricycle toward Tianzhou University. Fortunately, although there were many things on the vehicle, they were not heavy, and he was quite strong now, so the journey was relatively easy.

I arrived at the store smoothly, unloaded the items, and realized that the time I had agreed to meet my parents was almost here.

He quickly rode his bicycle to school, and also brought a set of the daily necessities he had bought that day to leave in his dormitory, hoping to help promote the school.
