Chapter 10 The Best Excuse
Du Shaojie opened the spice bag and took a look. The various spices inside were tightly packed in different categories.
There were star anise, cinnamon, fennel, grass fruit, angelica, white cardamom, galangal, cloves, fragrant leaves, thirteen spices ground into powder, etc., basically covering the commonly used spices.
These are good things, and they may be of great use at some point.
"There will be more and more rewards in the future, I hope it won't cause any trouble."
Du Shaojie hung the pork outside the back window to freeze it. He was thinking about making dumplings the day after tomorrow.
The day after tomorrow is Sunday, and there is one day off, so he can take this opportunity to improve the family's meals.
Then he stuffed sugar, spices, flour, and oil under the bed, and he fell asleep.
To be honest, when there are more rewards in the future, there really won't be enough space under his bed.
The next day, Du Shaojie got up before dawn.
He first went to fetch two buckets of water, then lit the stove in the kitchen and boiled a few salted duck eggs. After the salted duck eggs were cooked, he took two and stuffed them into his yellow schoolbag, and put the rest on the table.
After thinking about it, he wrapped the kitchen knife in old newspaper and stuffed it in.
Du Shaojie felt that it would be better to use a fixed kitchen knife when practicing knife skills in the future.
After finishing the morning work, the employees in the cafeteria started to eat breakfast.
Du Shaojie saw Liao Yongxin sitting alone in the corner, so he walked over with the dinner plate.
"What's the matter?"
Liao Yongxin looked up at him and asked indifferently.
Du Shaojie didn't care, knowing that the other party was such a cold-faced but warm-hearted person, so he immediately put the dinner plate on the table and sat opposite him.
"Nothing, it's quiet here."
Liao Yongxin was stunned for a moment. Few people would come to him in the cafeteria. On the one hand, he had a bad temper, and on the other hand, he didn't have a good face for anyone.
After a few exchanges, others would naturally not be bored.
Du Shaojie didn't look at Liao Yongxin either. Seeing that no one around was paying attention to this side, he took out two salted duck eggs from his pocket. He kept one for himself and gently rolled the other to the other's hand.
"Oh, you actually have some good stuff hidden!"
Liao Yongxin likes to eat salted duck eggs, but this thing is not easy to get, you have to try your luck.
He was not polite to Du Shaojie, stretched out his hand to grab the salted duck egg, cracked the eggshell, and ate it happily.
Du Shaojie didn't waste any words and also ate it with big mouthfuls.
After dinner, the two went to wash the dishes together. These days, no one serves, and you have to wash your own dishes. Everyone's dishes are fixed.
At noon and in the afternoon, Du Shaojie didn't get the opportunity to cook. He didn't feel disappointed, and took the opportunity to consciously practice his knife skills while cutting vegetables.
The new kitchen knife is very easy to use, as if it was tailor-made for him, and the more he uses it, the more convenient it becomes.
Dai Jianguo looked at Du Shaojie's busy figure and hated him. He planned to pick up some things after work in the afternoon and then go to find Li Heizi. He had to get rid of this bad breath in his heart.
"Hey, Dai Jianguo, you are deliberately dawdling, right? Xiao Du has already cut the vegetables, but you haven't washed a few cabbages yet? Hurry up, or I'll beat you if you delay the meal."
Du Shaojie gradually got into the mood, and the vegetables in the basket beside him were cut unknowingly.
But Dai Jianguo was distracted, and his hands were getting slower and slower, and a few cabbages were still not handed over.
Liao Yongxin couldn't help but get angry when he saw this situation, pointing at Dai Jianguo's nose and cursing.
"Right away, right away."
Dai Jianguo didn't dare to argue with Liao Yongxin. If he dared to be stubborn, the other party would dare to hit him with a big spoon.
Not to mention him, even his uncle Dai Tong didn't dare to provoke this old guy.
Du Shaojie laughed secretly. Although he had been concentrating on cutting vegetables, he could still sense Dai Jianguo's malicious eyes sweeping over him.
As a result, before Du Shaojie could say anything, Master Liao taught that guy a lesson for him.
He deserved it!
After work in the afternoon, Dai Jianguo didn't even eat dinner. He said hello to Dai Tong and ran away.
Du Shaojie sat in a corner of the cafeteria to eat peacefully. In the past two years, he has developed a habit of saving as much food as possible for his family, after all, he has a big appetite.
Before he ate a few bites, Liao Yongxin came over with a plate and sat opposite him.
"Are you free for lunch tomorrow? There are three tables of dishes to be prepared at the wool spinning factory. How about you help me?"
The next day was Sunday, and there was only one day off a week.
But Liao Yongxin was often restless. These days, he basically didn't go to state-owned restaurants for social interactions, but often stayed at home.
Especially when encountering more important things, he would usually ask someone to cook.
This was the situation at the wool spinning factory.
"Okay."
Du Shaojie agreed when he heard it.
He didn't want to eat and drink for free, but it was a rare opportunity to learn some skills from Master Liao.
"Meet at the gate of the wool spinning factory's family compound at nine o'clock tomorrow morning. Don't be late."
Liao Yongxin nodded and said no more.
Du Shaojie rode his bike back home after dinner. The house was dark and the power was out.
Power outages are common nowadays. Candles were lit in the house. Wang Yuxiu, Xiaomei and Xiaoya sat around the stove, talking intermittently.
Du Shaojie came in and joined in. Before ten o'clock, everyone washed up and went to bed.
When he got up at seven o'clock in the morning, the power had come on. He first went to fetch a few buckets of water, and then began to wash the pork that had been thawed in a basin last night.
After washing, he began to chop the meat.
He originally planned to make dumplings for his family today, but because he had something urgent to do, he prepared the meat in advance and would add the cabbage and stir it later.
After chopping the meat, he began to season it and then covered the stuffing in the kitchen.
Seeing that it was still early, he kneaded the dough by the way, and Wang Yuxiu came out of the house to prepare breakfast.
"Mom, let's make dumplings today. I've already prepared the meat filling and the dough."
Du Shaojie said last night that he had something to do today and would probably be out in the afternoon.
Wang Yuxiu frowned and said, "If you have something to do, just go and do it. It's not a festival, why did you think of making dumplings? Xiaojie, I haven't asked you before, where did these things come from?"
Mothers all hope that their children will have a promising future. It is of course a good thing for their sons to take care of the family, but they can't bring things back without knowing why.
During this period, there were mutton, chicken, and salted duck eggs. Today, she had to make dumplings again, so she had to ask where the pork and white flour came from.
"Mom, don't you understand? My cooking skills have improved a lot now, and the people who asked me for help have lined up until after the New Year. Don't worry, we eat by our own ability, we don't steal or rob, these things are all gifts given by others in advance."
Du Shaojie had thought that Wang Yuxiu would definitely be suspicious in the long run.
This statement just happened to match what he did today, and there was nothing wrong with it logically.
"Really? You didn't lie to me?"
Wang Yuxiu felt that her son didn't lie, but she still asked.
"Really, I didn't lie to you."
Du Shaojie nodded affirmatively, and Wang Yuxiu put her worries aside.
At this stage, being a chef is an enviable profession. The "eight major members" that people often talk about, to put it bluntly, are those who can make "oil and water", and it is normal to be able to get some benefits for the family.
Later, Du Shaojie ate a steamed bun with salted duck eggs, and then rode his bike straight to the woolen mill.
After waiting for about ten minutes at the end of the field, Liao Yongxin also arrived.
