The man weakly opened his eyes and looked gratefully at Junjue and Wan'er.
"Thank you... for saving me." His voice was weak and trembling.
Wan'er said anxiously, "This building is about to collapse. Quick, take him to a safe place, help stop the bleeding, and see if he can still be saved."
Junjue nodded, and they carefully lifted the middle-aged man into the car and drove to a safe place as quickly as possible.
As the car drove along the bumpy road, Wan'er anxiously comforted the man, hoping he could pull through this ordeal.
The man's breathing grew weaker and weaker, but he persisted and did not give up.
Finally, they arrived at a safe place, which was also an abandoned house, with dilapidated walls and broken furniture showing the marks of time everywhere.
However, unlike the dilapidated building we just saw, which was on the verge of collapse, this place is still habitable.
Junjue and Wan'er carefully placed the man on the dilapidated bed, then brought some clean water and clean strips of cloth and began to treat his wounds.
The man groaned in pain, but he didn't utter a single word of complaint.
"Thank you, you saved my life," the man said with difficulty, forcing himself to speak despite the pain.
Junjue and Wan'er exchanged a glance and said with a smile, "This is what we should do."
The man looked at them gratefully, his eyes filled with boundless gratitude and admiration. He knew that without their timely rescue, he might not be alive today.
"You are my saviors, I will remember you forever." The man's voice trembled slightly, as he felt his life was coming to an end.
Junjue and Wan'er watched the man silently, their hearts filled with helplessness and sorrow. They knew that the man before them was about to leave this world, but at least they could offer him their final comfort and warmth.
"You'll be alright," Junjue said, gently holding the man's hand.
The man smiled slightly, tears welling in his eyes: "Thank you all. I know my time is running out."
I...I came to find food for my wife and daughter, but...I didn't find anything...and then I was unlucky enough to get injured.
"Your injury is too serious. Don't talk. Rest and conserve your strength." Wan'er said with tears in her eyes, looking at the fact that the other person's head was dented in by a fist. Even if it was bandaged and the bleeding stopped, she didn't know if he could survive.
The middle-aged man, feeling his life slipping away, thought of his wife and daughter, and with his last ounce of strength said:
"No... I... I have to say, I... don't have much time left."
I know... my request is unreasonable, but... I still have to say it.
Junjue glanced at Wan'er, and seeing her nod, he said to the dying man, "Brother, tell us what your wish is! We will definitely help if we can."
My wife and daughter are in Room 1456, 14th Floor, Youth Apartment, Lane 14, Ping'an District, Pingzhou City.
"Could you...could you...could you help me find some food for my...wife and daughter?"
Seeing that her boyfriend was asking her to make the decision again, Shangguan Wan'er realized that he was a man who loved his family so much, and thinking about all the food in his storage space, she nodded.
Since it's all in Pingzhou City anyway, and Wan'er has decided to make the trip, he has no objection. He said to the man next to him:
"Don't worry! If something really happens to you, we'll help your wife and daughter find food and then take them to the official shelter in Pingzhou City."
"Thank...thank you...so that...even if I die, I can...die in peace."
A few minutes later, the man's breathing gradually stopped, and his eyes became empty and lost their light.
He left this world, but left behind endless longing and gratitude for his loved ones.
Junjue and Wan'er silently stayed by the man's bedside, expressing their respect and mourning for him with tears and grief.
"May you have a safe journey. We will help you take your wife and daughter to the official shelter," Wan'er said, weeping.
"Wan'er, don't be sad, or it will be bad for your health."
Natural disasters are like this; the end times will be even more difficult. We can only cherish what we have while we can.
"He's gone, let's leave!" Junjue comforted him tenderly.
"Hmm! Let's just burn his body! Otherwise, it'll just rot here and nobody will care."
"good!"
Upon hearing his girlfriend's explanation, Junjue threw everything flammable in the room onto the corpse, set it on fire, and then left the building with Wan'er and the two dogs.
A short distance from the building's entrance, they glanced back at the raging fire before driving away.
"Life is truly unpredictable! That man was so focused on finding food for his wife and daughter, but who knew he would be crushed to death by the rubble from the collapsing roof?" Shangguan Wan'er said with a sigh, recalling what had happened not long ago.
"So we should cherish each other even more in the future and live happily every day," Junjue replied while driving.
"The Lord is right. Whether you're happy or sad, it's still just one day. Why not be as happy as possible!"
After being injured and bedridden for a week, Wan'er was finally able to go out.
Although her injuries had not fully healed, she no longer wanted to lie down. She put aside her unhappiness and looked at the shattered world.
They rode their motorcycles to the nearest abandoned town to the city.
They packed everything usable into their space, and the sights they saw along the way were heartbreaking.
The once bustling cities and towns are now dilapidated.
Houses collapsed, streets were filled with garbage and weeds, and the old shop doors and windows were broken.
