Chapter 123 The People Who Were Arrested

When Junjue and Wan'er were brought in, the people in the hall immediately surrounded them, hoping to find a glimmer of hope in them.

"Are you new here?" a weak voice asked. Junjue looked around and saw a haggard-looking middle-aged man staring at them with weary eyes.

"Yes, we were just arrested," the Duke replied.

"You must have been brought in from the highway outside, just like us, right?" another person asked, a glimmer of hope in their voice.

"Yes, we just arrived in Pingzhou from somewhere else, and who knew we'd be caught here when we were only a dozen kilometers away," Wan'er said, her voice filled with despair.

Suddenly, a captured man walked towards them, a glimmer of hope in his eyes: "Those people are demons, ruthless killers."

Are you new here? We must stick together and find a way to escape!

Upon seeing the two arrested men enter with two stray dogs, the group of disheveled people exclaimed:

"Those people went too far, robbing people on a major road in Pingzhou City."

"Lock everyone up here. The pretty girls will be traded for supplies and weapons, and the boys will do the same, becoming playthings for those with more resources."

"I don't know why they arrest elderly people, but every time an elderly person is arrested, they disappear soon afterward."

"I've been locked up here for half a month now. I only get one meal of bread a day, and I'm starving every day."

When will I be able to leave this dark and dreary place? I really can't take it anymore.

"Yes, as an adult, if we only eat one piece of bread that's smaller than a fist every day, we'll be so hungry that our stomachs will hurt terribly all day long."

"Sigh! I've been arrested for half a month now. Every day I see people being arrested and then dragged away, and it makes me feel extremely sad."

After sharing their grievances in the hall for a while, the group of people lowered their heads and remained silent.

This helplessness and despair spread among them, forming an invisible wall.

The Duke sensed the oppressive atmosphere and tried to break the silence of despair. He said:

"Don't despair, everyone. There is still hope. If we can unite and help each other, perhaps we can find a way to escape."

People looked up, their eyes filled with bitterness, because they had tried many methods, but had never succeeded.

Even so, they were unwilling to give up, and they began to communicate with each other and share their opinions.

"There are many people guarding outside every day, but only one person comes over at mealtimes," a young man said with a wry smile.

"Yes, the defenses here are very good; we have no chance at all," another boy said, frowning.

“The people who delivered the food never came close to us; they just left the food outside for us to take ourselves.”

"We don't even have a chance to contact them, how are we supposed to find a way to escape? This is really too difficult," an old man said sadly.

"In that case, we can only wait for the right opportunity," Wan'er suggested.

"We'll see how things go during this time, and make a decision once I understand the situation here," Junjue said gently, stroking Wan'er's hair.

People began to discuss the Duke's suggestion, hoping to find a way to escape.

They believed that as long as they could unite, they would have a chance to survive.

The atmosphere in the hall gradually brightened, and people began to encourage each other and give each other strength.

They knew that in this time of natural disaster, only unity could overcome despair.

Junjue and Wan'er also joined this united effort, sharing their opinions with others in the hope of bringing a glimmer of hope to everyone.

Around five o'clock as the sun was setting, suddenly a dozen tall, imposing men with fierce-looking faces, dressed in black uniforms, appeared with cold eyes.

They barged into the hall where more than a hundred people were imprisoned without any mercy, looking at everyone with disdain, as if everyone here was like ants and posed no threat to them.

All those imprisoned took a step back in terror, their eyes fixed on the strangers.

Junjue coldly stared at the person who suddenly appeared, as if he had seen this scene countless times, and his heart was no longer moved.

Unaware of what was happening, Wan'er saw the villain suddenly appear, tightly gripped her boyfriend's large hand, and quietly watched from behind him.

The bald man leading the group observed the hall with over a hundred people. When he saw a stunningly good-looking couple wearing matching sportswear embracing each other and looking at him, he was suddenly delighted.

The bald man thought to himself, "These two are really good-looking. I need to make a good plan to keep them here and find a good buyer to exchange for more supplies."

Junjue felt the leader's gaze, glanced at him, then looked away, lowered his head to stroke his girlfriend's hair, and continued to coldly observe the situation around him.

Soon after, a dozen or so thugs found a satisfactory target, and the leader said in a cold voice:

"Let's talk about the two girls in yellow and black clothes in the left corner! They're quite pretty; the people upstairs will definitely like them."

Two beautiful young girls, dressed in tattered clothes, trembled in the terrifying atmosphere.

Seeing two tall, burly thugs come in and grab them, they struggled incessantly and screamed in terror:

What are you trying to do?
