Junjue continued walking excitedly, getting closer and closer to her. His heart was filled with anticipation; he had never expected to encounter Wan'er in this icy, snowy place, after being separated for half a year.
"Wan'er! Is that you?" His voice was filled with excitement and uncertainty.
Upon hearing the name, the girl stopped and blinked a few times.
She said somewhat awkwardly, "Excuse me, handsome, you've mistaken me for someone else. My name isn't Wan'er."
The Duke stopped in front of her. Looking at her somewhat familiar face, he was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Could it be... that I've mistaken someone for someone else?" The doubts in Junjue's heart grew stronger.
The girl smiled slightly and shook her head: "I'm sorry, you may have mistaken me for someone else."
The girl put down the scarf, and the Duke's expectations vanished instantly.
She had a face that resembled Wan'er's by about 50%, but it wasn't the pockmarked face he had expected.
He felt a pang of sadness and apologized to the girl, "I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else, I've bothered you."
"It's alright. The weather is so cold these days, everyone is all bundled up, it's hard to recognize someone."
The girl left immediately after speaking.
The Duke's hopes were dashed, and he quickly turned and returned to his seat.
Chen Fan noticed his actions just now, and then followed Junjue's gaze to the girl.
"Captain, what did you see? Are you sure you're not mistaken?" Chen Fan asked, puzzled.
Junjue was silent for a moment, then answered softly, "I mistook you for someone else. I thought that person was Wan'er, just someone who looks somewhat like her."
Chen Fan sighed and comforted her, "Captain, don't worry! We'll help you find her." Then he returned to enjoying his hotpot.
Only Junjue felt an indescribable sense of loss.
For Junjue, mistaking someone for someone else is a past event that is hard to let go of.
Four or five months ago, after he and Wan'er separated, he missed her every moment and thought about her constantly, always looking for her traces without realizing it.
However, he now finally understands that the world is so big, it is really, really hard to find her!
He had to find her; he didn't want to live a lonely and desolate life like he had in his previous life!
Junjue lowered his head, looking at the self-heating hot pot in his hand. He suddenly felt a loss of appetite, as if their recent pleasure had been tinged with a faint sadness.
On this cold morning, the hot pot that Junjue and his teammates enjoyed in the cabin at the Song Language Base did not bring him any warmth.
His heart was filled with endless longing for Wan'er. This time, mistaking someone else for someone else made him realize even more painfully that his momentary carelessness had brought him such suffering.
Perhaps one day in the future, Junjue will meet Wan'er again, and he will surely recognize her then. Their hearts will be connected forever.
But now, the Duke has put away his longing for Wan'er, leaving only endless loneliness and loss.
