Chapter 327 A Waiting That Fails

Upon hearing the other party mention his eldest son, Junhao's face filled with anger, and he gritted his teeth and said coldly:

"It would be good to hear news about him. That bastard secretly sold off the company both domestically and internationally before the apocalypse, and also secretly hoarded countless supplies."

When we took over the company, we found it was just an empty shell.

Now that it's the apocalypse, they have so many supplies but they don't even care about me. They're such ungrateful wretches!

Hearing her husband's words, Chen Jia said with a disappointed look, "Sigh! He's probably still angry, and he harbors resentment towards us because of his mother's situation!"

"When we see him, we'll apologize properly."

Junhao got angry when he heard about that unfilial son, and said coldly, "Let's not talk about that ingrate. Maybe he got bitten to death by a zombie."

"Alright! We'll talk about it when we meet!"

The couple chatted for a long time, hugging each other tightly for warmth. As time passed, exhausted from hunger and fatigue, they gradually drifted off to sleep.

Suddenly, a heavy footstep shattered the cold silence of the base. "Who is it?!" Junhao's tense nerves tightened instantly. He grabbed Chen Jia and cautiously looked towards the source of the sound.

A boy dressed in tattered clothes stepped into the room, his body covered in snow and blood.

That's Ah Hai, Chen Jia and Jun Hao's son.

"Mom and Dad!" A hint of joy appeared in Ah Hai's eyes as he rushed into their arms, tears streaming down his face, which had turned to ice. "I'm back!"

Chen Jia hugged her son tightly, her face streaked with tears and trembling. "How did you escape the zombie horde?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

“Mom and Dad, you have no idea how dangerous the outside world is.” Ahai’s voice was tinged with a sense of vicissitude. “I was chased by zombies for several days, and finally I met a group of people in a cave. They were survivors of the resistance organization, and they brought me here.”

Junhao sighed and released his hug from his son. "You should get some rest. You can't put yourself in danger again."

Chen Jia looked at Ahai and lovingly wiped the bloodstains from his face. "We've been worried about you, but now we can finally relax."

Ahai smiled slightly and looked at his parents gratefully, "It was you who gave me the courage and strength to persevere."

In the harsh cold of the apocalypse, Chen Jia and Junhao's reunion with their son gave them a glimmer of hope and strengthened their belief in survival.

They knew that although the world had become frozen and snowy, they still had each other and still had love.

"son!"

When the two opened their eyes and saw that the room was empty and there was no trace of Junhai, they realized that it was just a dream.

Chen Jia's eyes welled up with tears; she missed her youngest son so much, and she missed her old life so much.

Junhao patted his wife on the shoulder and comforted her, "He will definitely come back."

Now that we're all left, we must live well.

Chen Jia thought about how her life was getting worse and worse, and how a continuous blizzard was swallowing up the whole world, freezing the earth into a vast expanse of white.

After the apocalypse, mutated animals, zombies, and the cold became people's greatest enemies, and this desolate world no longer had the warmth and prosperity of the past.

With some distress, he said, "With this increasingly worsening environment, can we really hold on?"

Junhao held Chen Jia tightly in his arms. Both of them had sallow complexions and were huddled together in the simple wooden house, afraid that the cold wind might seep in through even a crack.

"As long as we don't give up, we can get through this."

Chen Jia asked Junhao, trembling, "Are we really going to be separated from our son forever? Will he really come back to find us?"

Can we really go back to the way we used to live?

Junhao gripped Chen Jia's hand tightly, a determined light flashing in his eyes: "Our son must still be alive, and he will definitely come back to us. We can't give up, we must live well and wait for his return."

Chen Jia thought of the luxurious life her family had lived before the apocalypse, but now, resources were scarce and food was in short supply.

She swallowed hard, recalling the nauseating food she had eaten during that time.

Chen Jia gazed at Junhao's tired face and asked softly, "Junhao, how happy our lives used to be. We could eat whatever we wanted. Back then, we could eat delicious food and enjoy the cool sea breeze."

Now everything is gone; the world is nothing but ruins!

Junhao nodded with a bitter smile. This nightmarish world made it impossible for him to imagine such a beautiful scene again. "Yes, Jiajia. Everything we once had has become a luxury."

Chen Jia sighed. She suddenly remembered something, hesitated for a moment, and then said softly, "Do you remember those worm meals we used to eat when it was extremely hot?"

Upon hearing the names of these foods, Junhao felt a wave of nausea wash over him.

He vomited for a week before he could accept it, and said palely:

"Jiajia, those things were so disgusting and awful, I'll never forget them!"

Chen Jia gently shook her head. She understood Junhao's feelings, but for their survival, she had to do everything she could.

"Ah Hao, those things were disgusting and unpalatable, and if you didn't eat them you would starve to death. Now you can't even find them to eat. It's really ridiculous."

Junhao fell into deep thought; he understood that Chen Jia's words made sense.

In this world, they have lost everything, and they can only rely on their own will to find a glimmer of hope.

“But just thinking about the food at the official base makes me sick.” Chen Jia shook her head. “For example, the worm rice we ate when it was extremely hot, canned white worms, canned cockroaches, fried maggots, spicy leeches, spicy and sour cockroaches, and even steamed rotten gray mushrooms... I simply can’t imagine that we used to live such a high-quality life.”

Junhao's sallow face was pale. He gently patted Chen Jia's back and said softly, "Don't think too much about it. Although that food is hard to eat, it's better than starving to death, right?"

We need to take good care of ourselves so we can welcome our son home.

The world may be terrible right now, but we must be strong, for his sake.

"You're right. Now that the apocalypse has arrived, getting a full meal has become a luxury."

"Take good care of yourself and make plans after our son comes back!" Chen Jia nodded and said.

The two people trembled as they spoke, recounting their waiting for their son.

However, Junhao and Chen Jia were unaware that during their arduous struggle to survive in the extreme cold of the apocalypse, they had to endure the pain of hunger, cold, and food shortages while continuing to wait for their youngest son.

But years have passed and they are still waiting. Although the end times have brought them pain and hardship, they have always believed that their son will come back to find them. But in the end, all their hopes were dashed!
