Chapter 459 Tears of Sorrow

Two weeks ago, they witnessed a massive force of over 60,000 people set off to fight those terrifying alien beasts.

However, now, only a handful of people have returned.

They could never forget the day they set off; it was the moment when morale was at its highest throughout the entire base.

People raised their arms and shouted with confidence that the alien beasts would eventually be wiped out.

Every soldier who sets off receives a warm farewell from his family and friends; however, at this moment, they see the sadness and tears of their family and friends.

“They’re back, but… too few of them have returned,” one survivor whispered.

“Among these people are our relatives and our friends,” another survivor added sadly.

"What did they all go through?" one survivor asked, unable to hide his anxiety.

“Perhaps, we can only wait for them to tell their stories,” another survivor said softly.

"This was something I had already guessed. It must be that the number of alien beasts was too large, the base was occupied by aliens, and in the ruins, hundreds and thousands of comrades and partners died on the battlefield, sacrificing their lives to defend the base."

A returnee named Li Ming staggered into the room, looking utterly exhausted.

He walked towards a group of survivors, looked at their tearful eyes, and felt an overwhelming sense of guilt.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I didn't protect them," Li Ming said in a trembling voice. "I...I'm back."

“Li Ming, everyone did their best. It’s good that you’re alright.” A survivor named Wang Gang stepped forward and grasped Li Ming’s hands. “You’re all back now. Our biggest worry was your safety.”

Tears streamed down Li Ming's face. "I've seen too much death and suffering. The world outside the base is far more brutal than we imagined. So many of my comrades have tragically died in battle."

Those who didn't go out were touched by Li Ming's words, and the pain in their hearts surged up once again.

They exchanged silent glances, understanding each other's inner grief.

“We’re back to tell you that this war is far from over.” Li Ming’s voice trembled slightly. “The alien beasts are far more terrifying than we imagined; their numbers are simply too vast.”

We have lost too many comrades; we cannot afford any more casualties.

“But we can’t give up.” A female returnee clenched her fist. “This war is a life-or-death battle between us and the alien beasts. We can’t let our loved ones and friends sacrifice themselves in vain.”

The conversations among the survivors gradually resonated with the other returnees. They all understood that giving up meant certain death, and only by persevering could they avenge their loved ones and friends.
