Chapter 1

Chapter 1

To be honest, Mu Yulu tragically turned her life into that of a vicious supporting female character.

She lived her whole life for Mu Qinhan, cooking and cleaning for him, taking up arms for him on the battlefield, and even mastering the essence of "shamelessness is invincible" without any teacher in order to climb into his bed.

She tried everything – acting cute, being coquettish, throwing tantrums, rolling around on the ground, even drugging him and using witchcraft. She used every trick in the book, from crying and making a scene to threatening suicide.

She wanted him, and she was willing to be shameless for it.

Unfortunately, he never touched her until his death.

If he doesn't love her, he doesn't love her. In fact, Mu Qinhan despises her.

Yes, he wouldn't have treated her like that if he didn't loathe her to the core.

This is the third year she has been locked in this small dark room.

Mu Yulu struggled to get up from the ground and staggered to the window.

The window frames were nailed shut, and she could only vaguely see the moonlight, cut into strips by wooden planks, through the cracks.

But even the moonlight seemed to find this place unsightly, lingering and hovering by the window, refusing to spare a single ray of light, refusing to fall into her eyes.

The bright moon shines outside the window, but all she sees is darkness.

Yes, she had nothing left but darkness.

Destitute and alone, she was confined to this small, dilapidated house day and night, where she ate, drank, and relieved herself.

She had been living like this for three whole years, and for three years she had not seen blue skies and white clouds or the sunshine outside.

She was certainly furious, but she hated Mu Qinhan, she hated Liu Wenshuang, she hated heaven, earth, and even the air—she hated the whole world. But in the end, the only person she hated was herself.

If she hadn't been so obsessed, how could she have clung to Mu Qinhan so shamelessly, how could she have devoted herself to him and ended up like this?

She loved Mu Qinhan to the point of obsession, but the woman Mu Qinhan loved to the point of obsession was named Liu Wenshuang.

Liu Wenshuang was not a noblewoman in the capital, and with her status, she could not become the Princess Consort of Mu. However, in order to marry her legitimately, Mu Qinhan actually went to ask the emperor for a decree to grant them marriage, which shows how sincere he was.

This frail female doctor had difficulty conceiving, and it took her a lot of hardship to finally become pregnant with the prince's child. However, not long after, the child she had conceived with great difficulty was lost because of Mu Yulu.

Actually, Mu Yulu didn't mean to harm her.

Before being locked in the dark room, Mu Yulu, as a concubine in the Prince's mansion, was required to pay her respects to the Princess and serve her tea every day. One morning, when she was serving tea to Liu Wenshuang, she inadvertently noticed the other's slightly protruding belly and was momentarily stunned. By the time she realized what was happening, the tea in her hand had already been spilled on Liu Wenshuang.

Liu Wenshuang was frail and could not withstand such a shock, resulting in a miscarriage. She also developed health problems as a result and would never be able to conceive again.

Upon receiving the news, Mu Qinhan immediately rushed back from the palace. Enraged, he locked Mu Yulu in a small, abandoned courtyard in a corner of the Prince's mansion.

This challenge lasted for a full three years.

At first, Mu Yulu tried to defend herself, saying that she really didn't mean to, she was just stunned and accidentally spilled tea on Liu Wenshuang, and she didn't expect that it would cause her to miscarry.

Perhaps because her past behavior was too heinous, Mu Qinhan saw her as a vicious woman, so he insisted that Mu Yulu had done it on purpose and gave her no chance to explain.

Later, she could only console herself in her daily confinement. After all, she was the daughter of a wealthy merchant in the capital, and her father was extremely concerned about his reputation. If he knew that she was now imprisoned in a dark room and tortured into such a grotesque state by the servants of the Prince's mansion, he would do anything to get her out.

But in the end, she didn't get her father to bail her out; instead, she received news that the entire Mu family had been executed.

This news was brought to her by Liu Wenshuang.

The strangest thing is that she originally thought Liu Wenshuang came to tell her this news to avenge the loss of her son back then, and that she came specifically to see her make a fool of herself.

Unexpectedly, the person came to tell her the news about the Mu family in a sincere manner, and even went to ask the prince to allow her to return to the mansion to pay her respects.

After all, although the person who issued the decree was the emperor, who among the people did not know that Mu Qinhan was the current regent?

The imperial edict was Mu Qinhan's will; the person who killed Mu Yulu's entire family was none other than the man she had always longed for.

This was truly cruel for Mu Yulu.

"Now you are the only one left in the Mu family. After today, the Mu family will be sealed off. If you want to go back to the mansion to pay respects to your family, the prince can give you half a day."

"You...you shouldn't blame the prince; he had his reasons."

Liu Wenshuang spoke with heartfelt sincerity.

Mu Yulu felt utterly devastated upon hearing this.

Then she felt an endless sense of absurdity.

She originally thought Liu Wenshuang was hypocritical, always trying to play the victim in front of Mu Qinhan, and the aroma of tea could be smelled for miles around.

But I never expected that he was actually a kind person.

At this critical moment, only she was willing to disregard past grievances and come to see her, even pleading with Mu Qinhan on her behalf to allow her to return to the mansion to pay her respects.

Looking into Liu Wenshuang's clear eyes through the filth, she couldn't help but chuckle.

Looking back now, Mu Yulu has truly become the vicious villain in the epic love story of the male and female protagonists in a storybook.

He's just an absurd buffoon.

She once managed to get into Mu Qinhan's bed, but he not only didn't touch her, but also kicked her off the bed. In order to get him, she didn't hesitate to stay by his side as a concubine.

To be precise, she wasn't even a concubine. In Prince Mu's eyes, she was nothing more than a shameless and despicable woman with no title or status.

They deserved to end up like this.

That's enough, that's enough.

After all these years of struggle, she suddenly felt tired at this moment.

I am exhausted, both physically and mentally.

"I want to see Mu Qinhan," she said to Liu Wenshuang.

Liu Wenshuang didn't speak, but just stared at her silently, lost in thought.

Mu Yulu suddenly gave a self-deprecating laugh.

In fact, she could guess what Liu Wenshuang was thinking.

Upon learning that the entire Mu family had perished, she neither cried nor made a fuss, nor did she intend to return to the mansion to pay her respects. At this critical juncture, her only wish was still to see Mu Qinhan one last time.

I really don't know whether to say she has no backbone or is heartless.

Liu Wenshuang remained silent for a while. Just when Mu Yulu thought she was going to refuse her, she stood up and said "okay," and then actually invited Mu Qinhan over.

For three whole years, Mu Qinhan abandoned her in this dark little room, ignoring her and leaving her to fend for herself. She knew he must be extremely disgusted with her, so she never expected that she would be able to see him so easily at this time.

He ordered the door to be opened, stood outside with his hands behind his back, and looked down at her, who was imprisoned in a small, dark, and filthy room.

He remained silent, waiting for her to speak.

"Your Highness..." She swallowed hard, her voice hoarse and inhuman, "I want to ask you, was the execution of the entire Mu family due to my involvement?"

A hint of coldness, along with a touch of disdain, flashed in Mu Qinhan's eyes.

He sneered, "You overestimate yourself."

"Not because of me?" Mu Yulu was initially dazed, then her tone became more joyful: "It's good that it's not because of me...it's good that it's not because of me..."

Mu Qinhan frowned: "You went to great lengths to see me just to ask this?"

He probably couldn't understand what kind of person would feel relieved rather than saddened upon learning of the execution of their entire family? What kind of person would not only not cry, but laugh easily instead?

Even if the Mu family wasn't implicated by her, she shouldn't have reacted this way.

Mu Yulu stopped looking at him and shifted her gaze to the courtyard behind him, bathed in moonlight, repeating that same sentence over and over again.

"It's okay if it's not because of me...it's okay if it's not because of me..."

Mu Qinhan frowned once again.

He stopped speaking, glanced one last time at Mu Yulu, who looked utterly haggard, then turned and left.

As he left, he took the moonlight from Mu Yulu's eyes with him. The servant followed closely behind and closed the door. Through the door, she could hear the sound of chains, one after another.

With a long sigh, Mu Yulu crawled back to the corner of the wall and laboriously groped for something among a pile of filth.

She thought, this is how my life is. Mu Qinhan may be vicious and ruthless, but it's all my own doing.

Who made her fall in love with the most stunning man at the most naive age? Who made her lose herself in the unrequited love, becoming full of schemes and becoming extreme and obsessive?

Even now, she still wants to speak up for Mu Qinhan. The reason he treats her this way is simply because he doesn't love her.

A single "I don't love you" is a death sentence.

She came to terms with it. So be it. From now on, the female lead and the male lead will live happily ever after, and she, the vicious supporting character, should pack up and leave the stage in disgrace.

This was the ending she deserved. Even at the very last moment of her life, she wanted to wish Liu Wenshuang and Mu Qinhan happiness.

Finally, she found the white silk that was stained and yellowed, which Mu Qinhan had ordered someone to throw to her a long time ago.

"If you cannot bear it any longer, you may commit suicide. This is the last act of mercy I bestow upon you."

Mu Yulu stood shakily on the stool and hung the white silk from the rafters. Mu Qinhan had prepared all the necessary tools for suicide; he was truly thoughtful.

She closed her eyes and clenched her teeth.

She heard that people who commit suicide like that will look very ugly, so she tried very, very hard to keep her tongue from sticking out.

Mu Yulu has nothing else to offer but her beauty. Even though she has been ravaged like a ghost these past few years, even though she is about to become a hanged ghost, she will still be the most beautiful ghost on the road to the underworld.

Unfortunately, the moment she kicked over the stool, she involuntarily opened her mouth wide.

Okay, I'll stick my tongue out anyway.

Mu Yulu desperately stuck out her tongue and kicked her legs, feeling the pain coming from her neck and the gradual stripping away of her life. A sense of desolation welled up in her heart.

She used to be most afraid of pain. When she was a child, if she went out to play in the spring, even if a blade of grass hit her, she would cry loudly in pain.

But no one expected that she would die such a painful death.

It hurts so much, it really hurts.

If there is a next life, if there is a next life...

Before she completely lost consciousness, she thought that if she were given another chance, she would never fall in love with Mu Qinhan again.
