Chapter 10

Chapter 10

With a sigh, Mu Yulu staggered up to the roof and stood still.

The books in that library were Mu Yugang's most prized possessions. No one but him was allowed to enter or leave the library at will, not even his most beloved concubine, Wang.

Mu Yulu naturally couldn't enter the library. The abandoned courtyard where she was now was the closest building to the library, and if she wanted to observe the man in pink, this was the best place.

Actually, she herself wasn't quite sure why she had come here in the middle of the night to observe him. She didn't intend to disturb him, nor did she know what to say to him.

Should I offer him a belated thank you?

Thank you for saving her, for patiently listening to her complaints, and for telling her those principles.

But the fact that he saved her life was from their previous life; they had never met in this life.

Well then, since they weren't destined to be together in this life, she decided not to bother him anymore.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, the man standing at the top of the library suddenly turned around and looked in her direction, and the two of them unexpectedly met eyes.

Mu Yulu never expected to meet him under such circumstances. The moment her eyes met the man's cold and sharp gaze, she slipped and fell downstairs.

She didn't know what she was feeling guilty about, but when she met his gaze, she instinctively wanted to look away. However, her feet moved faster than her eyes, and by the time she realized what had happened, she was already freefalling through the air.

This courtyard wasn't an artificial lake; if she fell in, she would surely be turned into a pile of minced meat. Driven by her will to survive, she forgot her fear and spread her arms wide, struggling desperately.

These efforts were of no use; she continued to fall, even tracing a graceful arc in the air.

In her despair, she looked up towards the direction of the library.

Where is my savior?

Where is her savior?

Her eyes widened as she muttered to herself: "Can my benefactor, who gave me a second chance at life, save me again?"

But upon closer inspection, there was no sign of their benefactor on the roof.

A leaf was swept up by the night wind and swirled down, and the place where the man had just been was now empty.

Mu Yulu closed her eyes resignedly.

The next second, she fell into a warm embrace.

She was greeted not by the cold earth, but by the broad chest of her savior.

Mu Yulu opened her eyes in surprise, and the first thing she saw was the hideous mask covering the man's face.

Seeing this somewhat frightening mask at this moment, she felt an immense sense of familiarity. She hurriedly grabbed his collar and said with tears in her eyes, "You saved me again."

The man frowned through his mask, a hint of doubt in his eyes.

This was their first meeting. What do you mean by "saving her again"?

Mu Yulu glanced down, muttering, "It's so high, please don't let me fall," while nervously grabbing his neck, pulling him so hard that he almost stumbled in mid-air.

He knew that he had mastered his lightness skill to the highest level, but he never expected that he would almost be defeated by Mu Yulu tonight.

If she really drags him down, he'll never be able to make a living in the martial arts world again.

The girl in his arms had black hair like a waterfall. She was crying with tears streaming down her face because she was so frightened. She looked delicate and fragile. He wondered where she got such strength from.

In fact, he had noticed her presence as soon as she climbed onto the roof of the courtyard opposite the library, but he did not disturb her and instead observed her quietly.

After all, climbing onto the roof like him late at night is hard not to arouse suspicion.

He made two guesses at the time: either she was a colleague who, like him, had a mission that required her to travel at night, or she was an enemy who had chased him all the way here.

He speculated that the second possibility was very likely, after all, he had too many enemies, and he couldn't remember when he offended anyone. But among his enemies, there were many people like this woman who climbed onto the roof in the middle of the night wearing only her undergarments to cover up their actions.

Having already made up his mind, he kept his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready for her to suddenly attack. But to his surprise, she kicked her leg and then threw herself off the roof.

He really couldn't understand what she was trying to do.

So far, all of the woman's actions have been beyond his expectations.

However, having spent so many years navigating the treacherous world of martial arts, he still possesses a basic sense of self-preservation.

He quickly realized that this might be a new form of revenge invented by his enemies.

First, she would pretend to be an innocent girl who was powerless, and then, once he lowered his guard, she would stage a heroic rescue. This woman seemed weak and harmless, but in reality, she might possess some martial arts secrets. She would kill him with a single blow as soon as he got close.

Therefore, when Mu Yulu fell from the roof, he did not immediately intervene, but continued to observe her silently.

Details don't lie.

Just look at the woman's arms flailing about, completely without any rhythm, and her terrified expression—it doesn't seem like she's faking it at all.

The more closely he observes, the closer he gets to the truth.

Does this woman really not know martial arts?

As she was about to make intimate contact with the earth, he struggled with his conscience, but in the end, his conscience prevailed over his suspicions, and he stepped in to save her.

Her first reaction upon falling into his arms was to clutch his clothes as if grasping at a straw, which made him even more certain that the person in his arms truly had no martial arts foundation whatsoever and was simply an ordinary person who had never practiced martial arts.

They're neither colleagues nor enemies, so why is she climbing onto the roof with him late at night instead of sleeping?

His doubts were answered when Mu Yulu said, with tears in her eyes, "You saved me again."

Then he put one arm around her and raised the other hand to rub his temples in pain.

This woman must be a young lady from the household. She fell in love with him at first sight while admiring the moon by the window at night, and thus came up with this method to attract his attention.

No wonder he always felt that the way she looked at him was strange.

There was a hint of joy, a touch of warmth, and a familiar feeling that was hard to define—it was definitely not the look of someone meeting a complete stranger for the first time.

That expression is obviously staged.

However, the method was too conventional.

He met Mu Yulu's gaze, catching the eagerness in her eyes, and then slightly curled the corners of his lips: "I didn't expect the women of the Vermilion Bird Kingdom to be so unrestrained."

Mu Yulu: "?"

What is it?

Who is he calling unrestrained?

Before she could speak, her savior looked down, assessed the surroundings, and then suddenly released her grip.

"But I don't like your type."

Mu Yulu fell from the sky once again.

The good news is that this time she fell from a much lower height than she had on the roof.

The even better news is that she is currently standing on a shimmering artificial lake.

In any case, she couldn't have been killed by the fall.

Suppressing the urge to curse her father, Mu Yulu closed her eyes and resignedly plunged into the lake.

With a loud thud, Mu Yulu was once again soaked to the bone.

She struggled in the water for a long time before being rescued by the guards on night patrol.

After being rescued, she fell into a coma, which gave Mu Yugang, who came to check on her the next day, a headache.

Staring at the dizzy Mu Yulu lying on the bed, Mu Yugang felt extremely irritated and wondered if he should just fill in the lake.

Just as Mu Yugang was pondering whether the plan to fill in the lake was feasible, a rare guest arrived at Mu Yulu's small courtyard.

Aunt Wang stepped into the courtyard carrying the tonics.

As soon as she stepped into the room, she rushed to the bedside, her voice full of heartache: "Poor child, suffering every few days, what will happen if his health is damaged?"

As she spoke, she shifted her gaze to Xinyun, who was kneeling in the corner once again: "How have you been taking care of Miss? Have you been doing your best? These past few days, she's been threatening to hang herself or jump into the lake, and you didn't even try to stop her? Were you deliberately hoping something would happen to Miss?"

As she spoke, she even began to shed tears: "Master, it's all my fault. These servants are lazy and incompetent, keeping Xiaolu by her side every day and letting her do whatever she wants. I'm afraid she hasn't been in good spirits since she tried to hang herself last time. Besides, women are most afraid of catching a cold. Xiaolu has tried to drown herself in the lake several times. We don't know if she has hurt herself. If it affects her ability to have children in the future, wouldn't that be my fault?"

Aunt Wang's words became increasingly serious, which angered Mu Yugang so much that he turned to Xinyun and scolded, "You lazy, good-for-nothing! How exactly do you take care of Miss on a daily basis?"

As he helped the distraught Aunt Wang up from the ground, he questioned Xinyun: "I ask you, what exactly happened last night? How did Miss fall into the lake again? Why weren't you by her side then?"

Xin Yun knew that Aunt Wang was targeting her this time, so she shrank back and dared not raise her head. She gritted her teeth and carefully replied, "Last night, people from Qingwu Courtyard came and made a scene. After Miss dismissed them, she told me to go and rest. Therefore, I was not by Miss's side when Miss fell into the lake."

She could feel Aunt Wang's sharp gaze sweeping over her, but with her mistress unconscious, she couldn't back down. So she mustered her courage and continued, "But I can assure you, Miss did not intentionally jump into the lake last night. I've been by your side every day, and I've seen all the changes in you."

"Yesterday, Miss said that everything she did in the past was her fault, so she asked the master for permission to stay at home in order to cultivate her character and correct her old bad habits."

“The young lady is no longer the young lady she used to be, so why would she try to drown herself in the lake again?”

She hesitated for a moment, then looked up at Aunt Wang and said, “It must be that the people from Qingwu Courtyard gave Miss a lot of trouble last night. Miss was so angry that she went to the lake to walk around and try to calm herself down. But it was too dark and she accidentally slipped and fell into the lake.”

Mu Yugang frowned upon hearing this. He clicked his tongue, sighed, and then turned to ask Aunt Wang, "What were those people from Qingwu Courtyard doing here last night?"
