Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Mu Yulu slumped against the door frame, watching Xin Yun's departing figure.

Mu Yulu had no idea whether Xin Yun could prevent the tragedy from happening and change Feng Wentang's fate.

Recalling the night of the Lantern Festival temple fair, in order to avoid Mu Qinhan, she asked Mu Yugang for permission to stay at home and went to bed early, but she did not expect to be greeted by Mu Qinhan climbing into her bed.

The thought of Mu Yulu sent a chill down her spine.

Why couldn't she escape this plague?

What's even more terrifying is that, by combining the memories of this life with those of the previous one, she feels that she has inadvertently discovered some incredible secrets.

No wonder she noticed that Mu Qinhan looked strange and preoccupied when she saw him at the temple fair in her previous life.

No wonder she always felt like someone had been in her room after returning from the temple fair in her previous life.

Now that the memories of the two lifetimes have been connected, everything makes sense.

In this life, she made choices completely opposite to those in her previous life, and thus saw things she would never have seen in her previous life, such as Mu Qinhan breaking into her boudoir at night, and the pink-clad man climbing onto her roof in the middle of the night.

She originally thought that everything was under her control after her rebirth, but now it seems that there are still many things she doesn't know.

What path should she take from here on out? Will she be able to change her fate and completely sever this ill-fated relationship between her and Mu Qinhan?

She herself didn't know.

She admitted that in her past life, she had relentlessly pursued and used some underhanded means to marry into the Mu family. Therefore, in principle, the fate between her and Mu Qinhan was entirely due to her one-sided pursuit.

Since she deliberately avoids Mu Qinhan in this life, the shallow connection between them should be completely severed.

However, this is not the case.

After being given a second chance at life, she discovered that she and Mu Qinhan truly had some kind of ill-fated connection.

Not only did she still see Mu Qinhan that night at the temple fair, but she also talked to him so much, an experience she had longed for in her previous life.

Why does it feel like the more I try to avoid him, the more he sticks to me like a leech?

It's a tragic fate, definitely a tragic fate.

Mu Yulu was getting a headache from thinking about it.

Her illness had never really gotten better, and after Xinyun was driven away, she was left all alone in the courtyard with no one to take care of her. She was also constantly overthinking things, so naturally her illness worsened.

That night, she developed a high fever and lay on the bed like a lump of coal, too weak to even pour herself a glass of water.

As the night deepened, her consciousness gradually blurred, and in a daze, she felt as if she had returned to the past.

He returned to the darkest period of his life, before Mu Qinhan gave him a white silk ribbon to hang him.

She was often left to fend for herself when she was sick and had no one to take care of her. This was a common experience she had in her past life.

In the last few years of her life, Mu Qinhan hated her to the core.

He tortured her in all sorts of ways, but instead of letting her die immediately, he imprisoned her in that small, dark room, making her suffer a fate worse than death, with no one to hear her cries for help.

Every time she was injured or seriously ill, Mu Yulu survived thanks to her tenacious will to live, but after surviving, all that awaited her was even greater revenge than before.

Compared to the physical harm, the psychological trauma she suffered during that period was what Mu Yulu feared most.

Even though I narrowly escaped death, the memory still sends chills down my spine.

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but feel another wave of horror.

Is this so-called rebirth just a dream?

Could it be that she didn't die at all, or that she was reborn? Could it be that she was still the lowest concubine in the Mu family, someone that Mu Qinhan loathed and was determined to take revenge on to death?

She trembled violently, whether from a fever or from thinking of Mu Qinhan, it was hard to tell.

Even more terrifying things were yet to come. She had just been so terrified by the thought of Mu Qinhan that she couldn't sleep, when the next second, this living devil actually pushed open the door and appeared in front of her.

The moment Mu Qinhan pushed the door open and entered, Mu Yulu retreated in terror like a wounded little animal, accidentally biting her tongue in her panic.

As the taste of blood filled her mouth, she broke out in a cold sweat, rolled her eyes, and seemed to see her great-grandmother once again.

As expected, rebirth was just a dream. She didn't get a second chance at life, nor did she have the opportunity to change her fate.

When Mu Qinhan opened the door and saw Mu Yulu, he seemed to be startled. He did not expect that Mu Yulu would become so ill in just a few days.

He originally thought that Mu Yulu had moved to the villa with Mu Yugang, and when he sneaked into the Mu residence, he never thought of coming here to look for her.

But she overheard the old women in the Mu family saying that the eldest young lady was so unlucky that even the master didn't want to see her, leaving her alone in the courtyard to fend for herself. Now she was seriously ill, and whether she lived or died was probably just a matter of days.

He didn't know why, but when he heard these words, he felt a tightness in his chest. Then, as if possessed, he went to the courtyard of the eldest daughter of the Mu family. When he opened the door, he saw the person he wanted to see.

Mu Yulu was the unlucky young lady that the old women talked about.

He frowned and stared at Mu Yulu, then opened his mouth and said something.

However, Mu Yulu was seriously ill. At that moment, she had a splitting headache and a ringing in her ears, so she couldn't hear what he was saying at all.

All she knew was that the Mu Qinhan before her was a gentler version of herself than she had ever seen before.

Seeing that he didn't seem to be going to continue torturing her, she gradually relaxed her guard and closed her eyes in a daze.

When she opened her eyes again, she saw Mu Qinhan holding a bowl of water, gently helping her up while carefully bringing the water to her lips.

What does it mean to receive timely rain after a long drought?

What does it mean to see the moon shine through the clouds?

Mu Yulu, whose throat was practically parched, finally got her first glass of water in days.

She drank the bowl of water without looking up, then leaned on Mu Qinhan's arm, tilting her head up to look at him pitifully.

Mu Qinhan understood immediately and poured her another bowl of water.

After drinking three bowls of water while nestled in Mu Qinhan's arms, Mu Yulu was finally saved.

Her throat was no longer so dry it felt like it was on fire, and she was finally able to speak.

However, her first words left Mu Qinhan completely baffled.

She called his name, gazing at him tenderly, then asked, choking back tears, "Qinhan, have you forgiven me?"

This time, it was Mu Qinhan's turn to shiver.

What nonsense is this girl talking about?

Mu Yulu clung to Mu Qinhan's arm, snuggling against him like a kitten, rubbing her head against his arm repeatedly, and persistently asking, "You came to take care of me and gave me water to drink, so have you forgiven me?"

Mu Qinhan lowered his head, gazing at her thoughtfully, silently waiting for her to continue.

He wanted to hear what other nonsense she could spout.

Seeing that Mu Qinhan was just staring at her silently and showed no sign of forgiving her, Mu Yulu seemed a little anxious: "I did so many things just to get you to look at me. I didn't expect that these things would make you hate me so much."

She gestured as she spoke, "I know you're a picky eater, so I specially learned to cook from a chef for you. I also know you like reading, and I was afraid we wouldn't have anything in common, so I tried my best to read and write. I did all these things just so you would look at me more."

She seemed a little guilty at this point, biting her lip and looking away, not daring to meet Mu Qinhan's eyes again: "Yes, I admit I drugged you, but that's because you haven't touched me even once since we married, so I..."

She dared not continue, and humbly shook Mu Qinhan's arm, pleading, "I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong. In the end, I didn't succeed, did I? You kicked me off the bed, and I've never dared to do it again since. I've never had such a foolish thought again, really."

Mu Qinhan couldn't listen anymore. He interrupted Mu Yulu's plea and reached out to tidy her messy hair: "Are you really not delirious from the fever? Do you know what you're saying?"

What do you mean, drugged him? What do you mean, he never touched her after marrying her? Is this girl sick or having a nightmare?

Mu Yulu called out Mu Qinhan's name again with deep emotion, mustered her courage, reached out and hugged Mu Qinhan's waist, burying herself in his arms: "Mu Qinhan, I am the one who loves you the most. I have nothing left, I only have you left, please don't abandon me."

Mu Qinhan had never been so close to any woman before. The moment Mu Yulu leaned in, he instinctively wanted to throw her away, but the person in his arms was burning hot like a burnt sweet potato. Once again, as if possessed, he reached out and embraced her.

Mu Yulu drifted off to sleep in his arms.

Mu Qinhan not only did not abandon her, but also took care of her without taking off his clothes.

Mu Yulu was like a completely different person when she was sick compared to when she was lucid.

I still remember the first time I met her, she looked like she had seen a ghost. After seeing him, she turned around and ran away. He didn't even get a good look at what she looked like.

The second time they met was in her boudoir. This time he saw her clearly, but this girl actually dared to hold a knife to his neck.

He couldn't understand where her inexplicable hatred for him came from, just as he couldn't understand why she had such a deep and unforgettable love for him.

Every time she briefly woke up from her deep sleep, she would become extremely dependent on Mu Qinhan, clinging to his arm and refusing to let go, her watery eyes filled with admiration and affection.

Every time Mu Qinhan lowered his head to meet her gaze, he felt as if he would drown in her sweet and tender eyes.

The tenderness and longing that couldn't be expressed in words were almost overflowing from her eyes.

Sometimes Mu Qinhan didn't even dare to look her in the eye.

He was usually aloof, and for a moment he was overwhelmed by such intense emotions.

In fact, there were countless women in the capital who admired him. Every time he attended a banquet, he would receive loving glances from those noble ladies, some shy and some direct.

But the love in those eyes was far less intense than that of Mu Yulu.

There was an inexplicable obsession in her eyes, as if she loved him deeply and had loved him for a lifetime.
