Chapter 17
Later, Mu Qinhan secretly sent someone to find a royal physician for Mu Yulu, and after a few doses of medicine, Mu Yulu's condition improved slightly.
These past few days, Mu Qinhan has been staying at the Mu residence to take care of her, and sometimes he doesn't even understand what he's doing.
Every time he thought about hardening his heart and leaving her, her puppy-like, pleading eyes would appear before him, and he would slowly stop walking away from the room, stand there in silence for a moment, and then go to pour her a glass of water.
He told himself that the reason he was taking care of her was because he didn't understand what she meant by what she said when she had a fever, and he wanted to find out from her after she woke up.
Although her words sounded like ravings of madness, her eyes and tone were so genuine when she begged him to forgive her and not abandon her, as if she had truly experienced those terrible things.
She had been married to him, but he hated her to the core.
He sat on the edge of the bed with a frown, recalling the scene when he first met her, while sorting out his thoughts in light of the nonsense she had been spouting recently.
Suddenly, a pair of hands climbed onto his waist, interrupting his thoughts. The next second, a head came close and gently rubbed against his back.
Mu Yulu has woken up.
Mu Qinhan unconsciously relaxed his furrowed brows, then turned around and naturally pulled the restless Mu Yulu into his arms.
Every time Mu Yulu wakes up from her deep sleep, she uses this sickeningly sweet way to sense his presence. After spending these few days together, he has unknowingly gotten used to it.
Looking down at Mu Yulu, who was nestled obediently in his arms, he raised his hand to feel her forehead: "Awake? How are you feeling today?"
Mu Yulu didn't answer whether it was good or bad. She just whimpered pitifully, then raised her head and looked at him with teary eyes.
here we go again.
This girl wanted to seduce him with her cloyingly sweet gaze.
Mu Qinhan frowned again, but the corners of his lips couldn't help but turn up.
He hadn't yet realized that the emotion surging through his chest like a deer's throbbing was joy, and the next second Mu Yulu closed her eyes and burst into tears.
"Mu Qinhan, why are you still here watching over me? You're too kind!" She cried, tears streaming down her face. "I know I was wrong before. I've reflected on it and repented. I'm not even human. Why don't you punish me? I feel uneasy with you like this..."
Mu Qinhan remained silent for a moment, then raised his hand again to touch her forehead.
The fever has almost gone down, so why is he still talking nonsense?
What he never expected was that Mu Yulu's next words were even more damaging: "I caused you to lose your child, and you're still willing to take care of me without holding a grudge. I shouldn't have drugged you. I'm so vicious, I don't deserve you. I shouldn't have been jealous of the Princess Consort. She's your rightful wife. What am I to you..."
Mu Qinhan's face darkened instantly.
What princess? Whose princess?
She said she caused him to lose his child, but he was clearly still a prince of marriageable age, so where would he have a child?
He had taken care of this girl for several days, so why did she start slandering her?
Mu Yulu remained immersed in her guilt and self-blame, unaware of the change in Mu Qinhan's expression.
She continued crying, "But I really love you so much. How could I possibly tolerate you being with another woman?"
Although she was crying, there was an unspoken malice in her voice: "Every time I see you with another woman, I can't help but want to kill someone."
Mu Qinhan did not interrupt her.
Mu Yulu's words were so shocking that he needed time to process them.
And he was very curious about what other crazy things she could say.
Mu Yulu cried for a long time and was a little tired. She curled up in Mu Qinhan's arms to rest for a while, then took a deep breath as if she had made up her mind.
She struggled to get out of Mu Qinhan's arms: "Forget it, you should live a good life with the princess. I'm sorry, but we can still have children. I really can't share you with another woman. I'm leaving, and I sincerely wish you happiness."
As she spoke, she staggered as she tried to get out of bed, but Mu Qinhan grabbed her arm and asked, "Where are you going?"
Mu Yulu stubbornly tried to get off the bed, and what she said infuriated Mu Qinhan: "I plan to go somewhere deserted and die, as if I'm paying with my life. By the way, where did the white silk ribbon you gave me go, Your Highness?"
When did he ever reward her with a white silk ribbon?
Mu Qinhan suppressed his inexplicable anger, picked up Mu Yulu, who had already climbed off the bed and was trying to walk towards the door, and gently put her back on the bed.
Even after being carried back to bed, Mu Yulu was still restless and struggled to get off the bed, but Mu Qinhan held her down.
He placed one hand on her right shoulder, and with the other hand on the bed, he leaned closer to her, head down, and said, "I don't know what you're talking about."
He moved closer and closer, his warm lips almost touching her earlobe: "But you really want to marry me?"
His hot breath brushed against her ear, and she instantly fell silent.
Whether Mu Yulu didn't hear what he said or was too embarrassed to answer, she hummed softly and then drifted off to sleep again.
Mu Qinhan waited for a while, but instead of getting a reply, he heard her even breathing as she fell into a deep sleep. He was both amused and exasperated.
He got up and gazed at her peaceful sleeping face, then sighed softly and covered her with the blanket.
When he touched Mu Yulu's burning hot hand while covering her with the blanket, he realized that she had started to have a fever again.
His hand, which had been lifting the blanket, froze in mid-air. He seemed lost in thought, his eyes flickering with light. After a moment, he leaned down again, took her hand, and together they slipped into bed.
Mu Yulu slept until dawn the next day.
When she woke up, the sunlight streaming through the window was perfect, illuminating Mu Qinhan's face as she lay beside her.
Mu Yulu was stunned at first, then her pupils dilated in shock.
Mu Qinhan did indeed have an excessively handsome face, but at this moment, his face should never be on her bed.
Mu Yulu twitched her lips and moved her body, only to find that he was not only lying on her bed, but also holding her tightly in his arms.
The two of them lay on the same bed, covered by the same blanket, in this ambiguous position.
For Mu Yulu, hell on earth was nothing more than this.
After all, she's now lying next to the living devil who killed her.
She swallowed hard and slowly pushed Mu Qinhan's arm away, trying to quietly break free from his grasp.
She should leave this room first, no matter what. What would happen if others found her and Mu Qinhan lying in the same bed?
Knowing Mu Yugang as she did, she knew that as soon as he learned of this, he would rush back from the manor and throw her to Mu Qinhan as a concubine.
If that's the case, wouldn't it be a replay of the tragedy of her previous life?
Mu Yulu broke out in a cold sweat.
She held her breath and carefully crawled out of Mu Qinhan's arms, but before she could even catch her breath, he grabbed her wrist.
Mu Yulu gasped in fright and froze on the spot, too scared to move.
But Mu Qinhan simply adjusted his position and pulled her back into his arms, his eyes tightly closed, showing no sign of waking up.
Mu Yulu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Mu Qinhan hasn't woken up yet, so she still has a chance to leave.
Running away from Mu Qinhan was the only option—that was the only thought in her mind right now. Although she didn't know why he was here, she had to escape first.
She tentatively moved her arm, but seeing that Mu Qinhan still hadn't woken up, she increased the strength in her hand, trying to break free from his embrace in one go.
Mu Qinhan was awakened by her movements, but he seemed very tired and did not open his eyes. Instead, he tightened his arms around Mu Yulu's waist, pulling her even closer to him: "Be good, don't make a fuss, let me sleep a little longer."
The two were so close that Mu Yulu could feel the vibration of his chest and hear his pounding heart when he spoke.
Mu Yulu became obedient and dared not move at all. She silently prayed that Mu Qinhan would fall asleep quickly, so that she would have another chance to try to escape.
However, after waiting for a long time, Mu Qinhan still hadn't fallen asleep again.
Although he didn't open his eyes, one hand was constantly and gently patting Mu Yulu's back, as if to comfort her or to lull her to sleep.
Mu Yulu's whole body stiffened.
Did Mu Qinhan take the wrong medicine?
In her past life, she did drug him to get into his bed, but that was in her previous life. In this life, she has completely reformed and doesn't even have the slightest thought of doing that again.
Besides, she was so sick recently, she didn't have a chance to give him any medicine.
Mu Yulu raised her head and stared at Mu Qinhan with a mixture of grief, indignation, and utter confusion, not understanding what he was up to now.
Seemingly sensing Mu Yulu's gaze, Mu Qinhan finally opened his eyes and then did something that Mu Yulu could never understand.
He actually raised his hand and gently pinched her nose, then said with a smile, "Your fever has finally broken. You've been sick these past few days, and it's really been a hassle for me."
What Mu Qinhan didn't know was that Mu Yulu had already lost two of her three souls and was almost scared out of her wits.
Still dazed, she asked, "What did I do to you?"
Mu Qinhan's voice carried a hint of grievance, as if she were complaining, or perhaps she was seeking credit: "These past few days you've had a persistent high fever and kept saying you were cold. I set up several stoves in the room, but it didn't help."
"So you had no choice but to hold me and keep me warm?" Interrupting Mu Qinhan's words, Mu Yulu gasped, her expression turning to one of utter disbelief, before letting out a sharp, shrill cry: "You didn't sleep like this for several nights, did you?"
Mu Yulu's reaction was exactly what Mu Qinhan expected. However, he completely misunderstood her intentions. Instead of letting go of the terrified Mu Yulu, he hugged her even tighter: "Don't worry, I will personally go to the Mu residence to propose marriage in a couple of days. I will let you marry into the royal family as a concubine and will never let you suffer any grievances."
Upon hearing this, Mu Yulu choked back tears and closed her eyes; the anxiety that had been weighing on her heart finally died.
