Chapter 28
“I’m not afraid of his power.” Sanzhou Jinse’s words almost choked Mu Yulu: “I’m more afraid that if I accept the embroidered ball, I will have to marry you.”
He pulled his arm away from Mu Yulu's hand: "You have to promise me first that I'll only help you snatch the embroidered ball and prevent it from falling into that person's hands, but I won't be responsible for marrying you."
Mu Yulu laughed awkwardly: "Okay, I promise you, I will never force you to marry me."
As she spoke, she pushed the pickled vegetable jar towards Sanzhou Jinse: "I know you only agreed to my request because of this jar of pickled vegetables. You said I'm not your type, and don't worry, you're not my type either. Even if I, Mu Yulu, die, even if I jump off the number one building in the world, I will absolutely, absolutely never marry you."
Sanzhou Jinse nodded in relief, took the pickling jar, and hugged it to her chest like a precious treasure. Finally, she dutifully confirmed the time and place of the embroidery-throwing ceremony with Mu Yulu one last time before hugging the jar tightly and flying away.
Mu Yulu stared silently in the direction he left.
If she weren't afraid that Mu Qinhan would cause trouble, would she have to beg for help like this?
In the end, it all comes down to Mu Qinhan, that plague god. From now on, she has one more reason to hate Mu Qinhan.
Yawning, she returned to her room and immediately lay down to sleep.
This day was so tiring. If I don't rest now, I really won't be able to get up tomorrow.
However, it seemed as if fate was against her. As soon as she lay down on the bed, she felt a sharp pain in her chest, and her heart began to pound violently, almost making it hard for her to breathe.
This was the second time she had felt this discomfort since her rebirth, but the feeling of suffocation was much stronger than the first time.
She dared not make any rash moves, opened her mouth and took a deep breath, trying to relieve the excruciating pain in her heart, but it was of no use. She felt as if a fire was slowly burning in her chest.
The fire burned brighter and brighter, and her consciousness grew hazy. Before she lost consciousness, she tried to turn over and knock the objects off the bedside table, hoping to attract Xinyun's attention by dropping them.
Unfortunately, she couldn't even lift her hand before her consciousness plunged into darkness.
It was a hard feeling to describe. She hadn't actually lost consciousness; in fact, her thoughts were clearer than when she was awake.
It was as if her body had simply fallen into a deep sleep, while her soul, guided by a force, left her body and was led to some mysterious place.
Am I dreaming? she asked herself.
The next second, the surrounding darkness was dispelled, and a shattered world entered her eyes.
The only word to describe the world that suddenly appeared before her eyes was "broken and dilapidated".
Not far away, the sky was being torn apart by several indescribable forces. Countless waterfalls of light cascaded down from the cracks in the sky. A huge white serpent, its body glowing, emerged from the depths of the cloud vortex and then slowly swam among the waterfalls of light.
What is this?
She dared not look up at the sky again, so she shifted her gaze from the white snake and looked tremblingly at the ground.
This is even more astonishing.
In another direction, countless golden crows flapped their wings and swooped down from the sky. Under their impact, the ground began to tremble and tear apart, and hundreds of pillars of magma and fire rose up.
There seemed to be human figures among the pillars of fire.
Mu Yulu finally felt a little relieved. This place was full of monsters she couldn't have imagined, but now she finally saw familiar human figures.
However, these people did not seem to be ordinary humans. They were constantly forming hand seals, and each of their palms emitted a different kind of light.
It looks like these people are fighting against those terrifying monsters in the sky?
Even knowing it was a dream, Mu Yulu was still so anxious that she kept stamping her feet.
None of those monsters looked easy to deal with; judging by their size alone, humans were no match for them. Knowing they couldn't win, why did they still fight the monsters?
Just as Mu Yulu had predicted, the group that was forming a battle formation was soon scattered into a swaying boat by the pillars of fire that erupted from the ground. They looked even more fragile and pitiful in the sea of fire than before.
What's even more terrifying is yet to come.
Suddenly, a continuous mountain of flesh rose up in the distance. The mountain was a living creature with seven or eight different faces. Each face had a wide-open mouth that made extremely terrifying sounds, some sad, some happy, some crying, and some laughing.
As it made its sound, the people still teetering in the sea of fire raised their hands to cover their ears, their weapons trembling with the sound, and blood gradually seeping from between their fingers.
Mu Yulu then realized that making such strange noises was its attack method.
That's terrifying.
Thankfully, it was just a dream.
If she really lived in such a world, she would probably be instantly turned into mincemeat by these monsters, right?
She dared not open her eyes again. The moment she closed them, she seemed to see humans begin to fight back. However, before she could see the scene of their counterattack clearly, her consciousness began to blur again, and darkness descended like a tide.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw another battlefield where humans were fighting each other.
The primordial wind howled as it swept across the land, stirring up dark red dust that seemed to be soaked in dried blood. When the wind blew, it drew countless blood-red trails in the air, like countless wandering souls lingering between heaven and earth.
They are all human, yet they are far more ruthless and cruel than the monsters from before when they kill each other.
Blood flowed like rivers on the battlefield, even staining the sky a suffocating crimson.
Mu Yulu shed tears without realizing it.
Isn't this just a dream?
Why could she smell the rusty, bloody stench permeating the air? It was so strong that she could almost taste it.
At the very center of the battlefield was a strikingly large crater, thousands of miles in diameter. Upon closer inspection, one could see that the bottom of the crater was filled with a deep red liquid, which appeared to be a sea of blood formed from the blood of human warriors who had died in the melee.
The sea was eerily calm, without a single ripple, yet every now and then various distorted faces would appear.
Mu Yulu screamed in fright at the sight.
She's no longer curious about the world in her dreams; she just wants to wake up quickly.
But clearly she couldn't control her dreams; even with her eyes closed, the terrifying scene still lingered in her mind.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but everything had vanished, and that battlefield had become an ancient site from millions of years ago. Yet, she seemed to still be able to see the countless vengeful spirits that remained there.
They have no physical form, only obsession, repeating the last action of their lives: those who fight continue to fight, those who flee continue to flee, and those who pray continue to pray.
These sounds intertwined, forming an eerie and mournful melody that echoed endlessly beneath the blood-red sky. This seemed to be a land abandoned by the gods, a land where even death could not find peace.
Just now, Mu Yulu wanted to escape but couldn't. Now, she was completely immersed in the shocking scene before her.
All of this felt so real that she couldn't help but believe that perhaps in another time and space, those strange and terrifying creatures truly lived, as did a group of people who possessed magic.
She suddenly felt that in the face of such a grand scene and life and death, many things that she usually worried about and cared about became as insignificant as dust.
At least, they are no longer worth her spending so much time and energy on. Even in her ordinary world, there should be more and grander things worth pursuing.
The sobbing gradually faded away, and in the silence, darkness surged in and receded again like a tide.
As the darkness receded, the figure of a woman appeared before her eyes.
The woman's features were indistinct, and she couldn't see them clearly. She could only vaguely make out the woman's tall figure and the snake-shaped chain sword coiled around her waist.
She slowly walked towards him, her footsteps creating shimmering light, and with a wave of her hand, she summoned a cloud of smoke.
The light and mist made her face even more obscured. Mu Yulu blinked and tried hard to see, but she still couldn't make out her features.
The woman raised her hand and touched Mu Yulu's face, her voice seeming to come from the distant void: "You are the one I chose for this world?"
At this moment, her face finally became clear, but for some reason, Mu Yulu still couldn't remember her features.
She was completely confused: "What selected person?"
"I gave you a second chance to live." Unexpectedly, the woman directly admitted: "Your heart contains the power I left behind, and I need you to do something for me."
Mu Yulu took a deep breath: "First, you have to answer one question for me."
She looked around in a panic: "Am I dreaming?"
The woman immediately answered the question: "You can think of it this way: everything that's happening right now is a dream."
Mu Yulu breathed a sigh of relief, then asked her, "So what do you need me to do?"
The woman seemed surprised that Mu Yulu accepted it so quickly. She quietly observed her for a moment before saying, "Now that you know it's just a dream, you're still willing to help me?"
Mu Yulu pursed her lips: "I'm just afraid that everything I just saw will become reality, but I also know that my rebirth is not a dream. Didn't you just say that I was chosen by you to be reborn, so I'm willing to help you?"
After thinking for a moment, she continued, "But how can I help you?"
The woman stared intently at Mu Yulu. After a moment, she seemed to smile, and the chain sword at her waist flashed with a sharp light as she moved.
"Everything you see right now is just a dream, but how can you be sure that what you encounter after you wake up will be reality?"
Her words were vague, and Mu Yulu didn't understand them. She looked back at the woman and said, "I am already extremely lucky to be able to live again. Even if it is just a dream, I will live this life seriously."
Finally, she added earnestly, "I just want to see if my fate can be changed if I make different choices than in my previous life. I want to live again, and not live a meaningless life like I did in my previous life, where I died without purpose."
After hearing this, the woman seemed to raise an eyebrow, but Mu Yulu couldn't see it clearly because her figure began to become hazy again, as if she was about to dissipate along with the clouds and mist in front of her.
At this moment, she spoke in a way that Mu Yulu couldn't understand.
"My name during the Universal Era was Terukawa Mi."
