Chapter 41
Mu Yulu struggled to protect Xinyun, but was kicked away by Mu Yugang.
He was panting heavily as he pointed a feather duster at Xinyun, "Guards, drag this lowly servant out and give him forty lashes!"
Mu Yulu rushed over and hugged Mu Yugang's legs, "If you want to hit someone, hit me, don't hit Xinyun, she's just a little girl, what does she know?"
Mu Yugang lashed Mu Yulu's back several more times with the stick. "You think I wouldn't dare hit you? What is she? She's a slave I bought with my own money. I can hit her however I want."
The feather duster in his hand was already bent, but Mu Yugang was still not satisfied and beat Mu Yulu again.
Mu Yulu neither dodged nor avoided the beating, hoping that Mu Yugang would calm down after he had beaten her enough. Right now, she only had one thought in her mind: as long as he could let Xinyun go, she would be willing to be beaten however he wanted.
Unexpectedly, the more Mu Yulu remained silent, the more Mu Yugang assumed she was provoking him. Enraged, he increased the force of his grip and actually broke the feather duster in two.
Feathers flew everywhere, and Mu Yugang, exhausted, stumbled backward and landed hard on his backside.
Mu Zhaoshi and Aunt Wang rushed forward to help him, but he pushed them away.
He struggled to his feet and saw that Mu Yulu had been beaten until her skin was torn and bleeding, but she still kept her pale lips tightly closed and refused to say a word.
"Say something, and I'll call you my ancestor, okay? Say something!" Mu Yugang suddenly felt completely helpless against her, a feeling that made him very unhappy. "Are we, as your parents, sorry for you? Have we abused you?"
He grabbed Mu Yulu's blood-stained collar and demanded, "Are you starving at the Mu residence? Why are you saving up to buy so many house deeds?"
At this moment, the expression on his face could only be described as ferocious. "Fine, I'll assume that money was saved up by yourself. Now I'm asking you, why did you buy so many property deeds?"
Mu Yulu wiped the blood from her lips. "Those houses are old and dilapidated, so they're very cheap. I just want to buy some properties to add to my dowry."
Mu Yugang let out a cold laugh: "Do you think I'm stupid? Those dilapidated houses are a money-losing proposition, and you're going to use them as your dowry? You have so much money you don't know what to do with it?"
He slapped Mu Yulu across the face. "Do you think your father and mother are dead? Do you need to prepare your own dowry? Don't we care about these things for you?"
Mu Yulu fell silent again.
Mu Yugang also noticed that she would only make up an answer when she needed to answer a question, and otherwise she would not say a word. It was clear that she had given up resisting, but she did not want to tell him anything.
He took a breath, nodded, took a few steps back and sat down in a chair. "Fine, if you don't want to say anything, then we'll just stay like this."
"No one is leaving today, and no one is going to eat. We'll all stay here and wait with you. They'll only go eat when you tell me the truth."
Mu Yulu knelt numbly on the cold ground, glanced at him, and then coldly lowered her gaze again.
Her attitude clearly angered Mu Yugang again. He had just caught his breath when he saw Mu Yulu's unyielding attitude, and his anger flared up again.
He pointed at Mu Yulu's nose and berated her, "How could I, Mu Yugang, with my illustrious reputation, have given birth to such a shameless daughter like you? How could you be so selfish? Everyone is standing here as punishment with you, and you're not even moved? Do you have to let a few people starve to death before you're satisfied?"
Mu Yulu remained silent.
This time, it was Madam Mu Zhao who couldn't hold back any longer. She rushed over and pinched Mu Yulu hard a few times. "You unfilial daughter, do you want to make your father angry to death? Explain clearly where the money for buying the shops came from, and what you want to do with so many shops, isn't that enough? Why do you have to argue with your father here!"
Mu Yulu's voice sounded very weak: "I told you, I saved the money myself. I bought those shops to add some dowry to my dowry."
However, her weakness did not elicit any pity from Mu Zhaoshi. She pinched her a few more times, "You still won't tell us the truth! Let me tell you, your sister noticed something was wrong with you a long time ago. Lately, you've been sneaking out of the manor, taking detours cautiously, as if you're afraid someone will follow you. What exactly have you been doing out there?"
Mu Yulu then realized that she had been targeted by Mu Wanyi for a long time. Since Mu Wanyi had been targeting her for a long time, this was definitely not the first time Mu Wanyi had come to search her house.
However, every time Mu Yulu sneaked out of the mansion before, she took Xinyun with her. At that time, Mohe had not yet come to serve her. So when Mu Wanyi searched her courtyard after she left the mansion, the courtyard was empty.
Perhaps Mu Wanyi sensed that Mu Yulu had a secret, but after searching the house several times without finding any clues, she turned her attention to the unsearched areas in the courtyard.
Mu Yulu finally understood that there was no way to avoid this disaster today. Even if she hadn't argued with Mu Zhaoshi this morning, Mu Wanyi would have exposed her to Mu Yugang.
She looked up at Mu Wanyi, but the other woman turned her face away guiltily.
Mu Zhaoshi turned around and stood in front of Mu Wanyi, "Why are you staring at your sister like that? Is it because she exposed you that you resent her and want to take revenge on her?"
Mu Yulu gave a cold laugh, but she still swallowed all her words back.
Mu Yugang stood up again at this moment, "This unfilial daughter of hers, who else does she want to take revenge on?"
He sighed, looking extremely disappointed in Mu Yulu: "As my eldest daughter, Mu Yugang, you can't take care of your parents or teach your younger sister. You spend all day fooling around with other people, bringing shame to me. I'm being merciful by not beating you to death, but you've only gotten worse."
He became more and more emotional as he spoke, and even shed a few tears at the end. "I don't know what sins I committed in my past life. I, Mu Yugang, am a ruthless and decisive man in the business world. How could I have given birth to such a talentless and immoral daughter as you?"
He waved his hand, signaling the servants inside to drag Xinyun away. "I spoiled you too much before, making you arrogant and thinking you could get away with anything. Today I'm going to teach you a lesson so you'll know that wrongdoing will be punished."
"Guards, drag Xinyun and Mohe away and beat them to death. Today I'm going to teach them a lesson they won't forget."
At this moment, Mu Yulu stood up unsteadily. She walked to Xinyun's side and grabbed her arm. "Fine, then kill them. Kill me too, then you'll be satisfied."
Enraged, Mu Yugang grabbed a water glass from the table, threatening to smash it. "You think I wouldn't dare kill you?"
"Of course you dare. Don't you always say that you are our emperor in the Mu family? What wouldn't you dare to do?" Mu Yulu looked at him and smiled. "By the way, you always say that my body and hair are given to me by my parents, and everything I have is given to me by you. Of course you can take it back."
She turned to Mu Zhaoshi with a grin, "Mother, I was born of you. You can kill me right now, and I won't fight back. I'll give my life back to you, okay?"
Her words greatly provoked Mu Yugang and his wife. Mu Yugang threw the cup away, and it hit Mu Yulu squarely on the forehead. "Someone! Get me a knife. I'll chop this unfilial daughter up right now!"
Mu Zhao rushed to Mu Yulu again, disregarding all decorum, and began punching and kicking her while wailing, "How could you be like this? How could I have given birth to a daughter like you? If I had known you would be like this when I gave birth to you, I should have put you back in my belly!"
Mu Yulu did indeed not fight back or retaliate verbally. She just stood there, enduring Mu Yugang's angry curses and letting Mu Zhaoshi punch and kick her.
Blood was gushing from her forehead, and she was in excruciating pain from where Mu Yugang had hit her with the cup. This pain, however, stimulated her and made her inexplicably excited.
When she saw a servant bring her a knife, she rushed over and snatched it away.
Her movements were incredibly fast, and the strength in her hands was extraordinary. She was like a ferocious beast driven to the brink of despair, which frightened the servant so much that he immediately let go.
Mu Zhaoshi was so frightened that she retreated repeatedly, and even Mu Yugang could not maintain his composure and his expression changed instantly.
Even he himself didn't realize that his voice trembled slightly when he saw Mu Yulu snatch the knife away: "What are you going to do? Are you going to kill your father and mother? Put the knife down right now!"
Mu Yulu approached Mu Yugang with a knife in her hand. At this moment, she was covered in blood from head to toe, and the visual impact was too great. Mu Yugang was so frightened by her that he froze on the spot.
Mu Yulu casually wiped the blood that was still dripping down her face and raised the knife, pointing it at Mu Wanyi.
The instant she pointed the knife at Mu Wanyi, Mu Zhaoshi instinctively protected her precious daughter.
Mu Yulu let out a cold laugh and said to Mu Wanyi, "You are a beneficiary of the system, understand?"
Mu Wanyi was also stunned and stood motionless in place.
Mu Yulu sighed: "Between the two of us, you are the one who is favored, so do you know that you should avoid me? Because you have more than me, you should be the one who is afraid of losing me."
She suddenly raised her voice: "I've never had anything that you have, so I'm not afraid of losing it at all. If you really push me too far, I'm willing to fight you with my life at any time, but are you willing to give up your little life?"
Mu Wanyi clearly didn't hear anything; she was just frightened by Mu Yulu and huddled in Mu Zhaoshi's arms, sobbing softly.
Mu Yulu pointed the knife at Mu Yugang again, "Actually, I don't understand. I just bought some shops, and I didn't spend your money. Why are you so angry? It's like I did something heinous."
She moved closer to Mu Yugang, startling him. "But I suddenly realized something just now. You're not angry that I bought the shop without your knowledge; you're angry because I've slipped out of your control."
She suddenly laughed and brandished the knife wildly in the air.
It was clear that she really wanted to slash Mu Yugang in the face, but her remaining rationality made her deflect the blade, sending the sharp edge slicing through the air.
