Chapter 65

Chapter 65

Hearing this, Mu Yulu finally couldn't stand it anymore. She felt it was necessary to correct Master Sanzhou Jinse's wrong viewpoint, so she interjected, "But I think the most important thing for an assassin is to fill his stomach."

Her voice pulled Sanzhou Jinse back from his distant memories, and his gaze refocused on her face.

She continued, "I think that whether you're an assassin or an emperor, the most important thing is to fill your stomach. Aren't the two most important things in life simply eating and drinking?"

"Think about it carefully. When you first started fighting with people, wasn't it all for that one meal, that one bite to eat? Did your ideals change after you became an assassin? Did they become about killing more people and becoming the most famous assassin in the world? If that's the case, then that's too boring."

She said earnestly, word by word, "As long as a person lives in this world, their first priority is to eat well."

Sanzhou Jinse stared at her for a long while, then he smiled and said, "So you're the first person to tell me that I can keep eating even when I'm full."

Mu Yulu was stunned for a moment, then realized that he was referring to the night he sneaked into the Mu residence and was attracted by the aroma of her toasted bread slices, which led him to have a late-night snack.

So she smiled and asked, "Did you eat well tonight?"

Sanzhou Jinse nodded.

Mu Yulu added, "I will continue to cook for you in the future. You can come to me with whatever you want to eat. I will make sure you eat your fill every meal, and you are not allowed to leave the table until you finish eating."

Sanzhou Jinse stared at her for a moment, then nodded silently.

Then he turned to look at the sky outside the window. "I'm leaving here. What are your plans?"

Mu Yulu followed his gaze to the window, tapped the table with her index finger, thought for a moment, and then said, "Then let me see you off. After you leave, I'll go back to the Mu residence."

She didn't say much to him, nor did she tell him her plans; she simply let him know that what had happened before hadn't affected her.

Sanzhou Jinse put her mask back on, then stood up and extended her hand to Mu Yulu.

Mu Yulu didn't know what he meant, but she still placed her hand in his palm.

The next second he pulled her over, put his arm around her waist, and jumped out of the window with her in his arms.

Mu Yulu grabbed his collar in a panic, but then felt it wasn't safe, so she shakily stretched out her arms and wrapped them around his waist, clinging to him like an octopus once again.

The wind whistled in her ears, and she closed her eyes in fright, shouting at him, "Where are you taking me?"

Sanzhou Jinse's voice rang out above her head, tinged with a slightly muffled laugh: "Aren't you going back to the Mu residence? I'll take you."

After saying that, he added, "I should be the one taking you home."

Mu Yulu tightened her grip around his waist and protested loudly, "How can you send someone home like this? Ever since you threw me into the lake last time, I've been afraid of heights. I'm telling you, I'll remember this for the rest of my life!"

Sanzhou Jinse slowed down and gently comforted her, "Don't be afraid, you can open your eyes. This time I won't let go."

His arms were also around her waist, tightening slightly to hold her closer in his embrace. This gave her a sense of security, so she opened her eyes with trembling hands.

The night view of the capital unfolded beneath her feet.

The streets, alleys, houses, and buildings are blurred into patches of varying shades of light and shadow in the dim or bright light. The lights on the central long street of the capital are the brightest, like dragons dancing in the night sky, and the sounds of hustle and bustle can be faintly heard in the night.

Although she couldn't hear the sounds below, the vibrant atmosphere of the mortal world still rushed towards her, illuminating Mu Yulu's eyes.

Although she lived right here in the mortal world, she had never seen such a view before. This was the first time she had ever looked down on the place where she lived from such a high altitude.

The breathtaking scenery made her forget her fear. She released her hands from around Sanzhou Jinse's waist, instead hugging his arm and lowering her head to greedily take in all the sights of this idyllic world.

Mu Yulu looked down at the scenery at her feet, while Sanzhou Jinse looked down at her in his arms.

He spun around with her and landed on the eaves of a tall building in the center of the capital. "If you like, look at it a little longer."

His voice was very soft, unlike usual, as if he was always afraid of scaring her, and it always carried a soothing tone.

Mu Yulu sat on the eaves, gazing intently at the flowing river of light below, her eyes filled with amazement and a hint of reluctance.

She was destined to leave this place, and the thought of it made her feel a little reluctant to leave.

Sanzhou Jinse sat down with her on the roof, and whether intentionally or unintentionally, he did not let go of the hand around her waist.

He continued to observe Mu Yulu's expression, and after a long while, he asked her, "Even though you're reluctant to leave here, do you still want to go?"

Mu Yulu turned her head in surprise: "How did you know I wanted to leave?"

Sanzhou Jinse's voice came from under the mask. He chuckled softly before replying, "Your place is very clean, so clean that it's almost empty. You don't seem to buy much for yourself, which means you've been preparing to leave."

Mu Yulu pouted unconvinced: "But that could also mean I'm a poor wretch and don't have any extra money to buy things."

Sanzhou Jinse laughed again: "Alright then, whatever you say."

These words clearly carried a hint of helplessness, but coming from Sanzhou Jinse's mouth at this moment, they inexplicably carried a sense of indulgence.

Mu Yulu tilted her head and looked at him in confusion: "What are you always laughing about?"

Sanshu Sumire honestly replied, "I think your facial muscles are very developed, and you make a funny face every second."

After hearing this, Mu Yulu pursed her lips, stared at his mask speechlessly for a long time, and then angrily removed the mask from his face.

The moment she removed her mask, Misuzu Sumire instinctively looked away, just like last time, turning her head to the side in a somewhat evasive manner.

However, this time he did not stop her actions, and for the first time ever, he did not snatch the mask back and put it back on.

The hazy glow of the lanterns hanging from the eaves of the tall building illuminated half of his profile, outlining his clear and sharp jawline.

Such a beautiful face left Mu Yulu speechless for the umpteenth time.

She had been sulking just moments before, but upon seeing his face, her anger vanished almost entirely, replaced by curiosity: "You're so handsome, why do you always seem so scared when I take off your mask?"

She genuinely couldn't understand: "Are you afraid I'll faint from beauty when I see your face?"

Sanzhou Jinse lowered her eyes and focused her gaze on a dazzling spot in the distance. After a long while, she finally asked, "Why did you suddenly take off my mask?"

It was obvious that he didn't want to answer her question.

Mu Yulu didn't press the matter further. She shrugged innocently and said, "Who told you to find my expression funny? You can see my expression, but I can't see yours. I don't think that's fair."

Her words made Sanzhou Jinse laugh again.

He finally turned to look at her, and for some reason, Mu Yulu felt that his gaze on her face carried a certain weight.

The night breeze swept across the rooftops, brushing against the clothes of the two people. The hustle and bustle of the bustling world below continued to flow and rise. The lights of the market stretched and blurred the shadows of the people, merging into a warm ocean.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, within the confines of the roof, the two gazed at each other in silence for a long time.

Sanzhou Jinse kept a calm gaze, seemingly lost in thought, while Mu Yulu was simply admiring his good looks.

After a long silence, he spoke softly, "The mask is for you."

Mu Yulu picked up the mask in her hand and looked at it, her face full of confusion.

Why would he give her a mask for no reason?

Sanzhou Jinse's eyes reflected the dazzling lights in the distance, yet it also seemed to hold only a tiny glimmer of light from the rooftop, in which Mu Yulu's figure was reflected.

He then said to her, "I need to go back to Sanzhou Pavilion. I will be back in no more than ten days. If you want to find me during this time, you can give the mask to Xiao Tang of Tianxia Diyi Lou. He has a way to send me a message."

Mu Yulu exclaimed in surprise, "Xiao Tang? Isn't he a waiter at the No. 1 Restaurant in the World?"

Sanzhou Jinse nodded: "He is also an informant for Sanzhou Pavilion."

Mu Yulu fell silent.

These Three States Pavilions are truly incredibly resourceful; even a random waiter turned out to be one of their hidden informants.

Sanzhou Jinse gazed at her, and finally said earnestly, "If you don't want to marry Mu Qinhan, I can take you away from here."

He glanced at the mask in her hand, his gaze burning with intensity: "Anytime is fine."

This time, it was Mu Yulu's turn to avoid his gaze. She suddenly felt a little afraid to meet his eyes, and stared down at the hem of her skirt. She replied to him in a very fast voice: "I do want to leave here, but I haven't reached the point of having nowhere to go yet. If possible, I still want to save some money and build up some savings before leaving."

After saying that, she glanced at him quickly and saw that he was still staring at her intently. She then quickly lowered her head and clenched the mask in her hand: "But you've already given me this mask, so you can't take it back. I might need your help in the future, so you should always be prepared to repay your kindness."

Sanzhou Jinse chuckled softly again, her voice so light it seemed to drift away on the wind: "Don't worry, I remember your kindness and am ready to repay it at any time."

After saying that, he silently tightened his arms around Mu Yulu's waist. "I'm leaving now. I should take you home. Hold me tight."

Upon hearing the words "Hold me tight," Mu Yulu almost reflexively threw herself into Sanzhou Jinse's arms, holding him tightly with both hands and pressing her head against his chest.

The last time Sanzhou Jinse said those words, she flew out of the palace with her, and she still remembers how fast it was, leaving the surrounding scenery in afterimages.

As the two leaped into the air, deep within the brightly lit street, Mu Qinhan stood in front of a relatively quiet lantern shop at a street corner, looking up at the scene on the eaves. The instant he saw Mu Yulu throw herself into Sanzhou Jinse's arms, a deep chill appeared in his eyes.

The surrounding noise seemed to automatically recede beside him, creating a silent space. He looked up for a moment, then lowered his eyelashes very gently, turned and left without looking back.
