Chapter 9

Chapter 9

"You underestimate your own strength."

Although the man in front of her exuded a cold aura, his tone was quite gentle when he spoke to Mu Yulu.

He seemed afraid of frightening her.

She seemed so fragile.

"I have witnessed ordinary people in small countries struggling to survive under the oppression of large countries, and I have seen the strongest will to survive burst forth from the lowest levels of society."

"I have also seen mothers walking alone with their children on war-torn borders, and witnessed them displaying a strength that people don't think women should have in order to protect their children."

"Humans possess unlimited potential, but this potential may only be unleashed when pushed to the brink."

He leaned down slightly, took her hand, guided her to grip the sword tightly, and then pointed the sharp tip of the sword at the heads on the ground.

“You already possess power, but you place your hopes on others and refuse to believe in yourself,” he concluded. “Even if you can’t cut off their heads, you should at least make them pay the price. You can do it.”

Mu Yulu stood there in a daze, feeling as if the words spoken by the person in front of her came from the horizon. The voice sounded so real in her ears, yet it felt so unreal.

She felt that everything he said was too unrealistic.

By the time she realized what had happened, the man had vanished, leaving her alone standing amidst the pile of corpses, sword in hand.

She was startled and, carrying her sword, staggered on her way.

For Mu Yulu in her previous life, this accident was like a dream. Perhaps her brain deliberately blocked out this memory to protect itself. By the time she returned to the Vermilion Bird Kingdom in a disheveled state, this past event had become unclear in her mind.

She didn't want to remember the scene when the bandits roughly dragged her into the forest, and she also forgot what her savior had once told her.

He said she inherently possessed power.

Those who bullied her should at least pay the price.

After returning to the palace, she numbed herself with alcohol every day, drinking herself into a stupor each time, as if only in this way could she forget the pain in her body and the humiliation in her heart.

She lived a life of debauchery until Mu Qinhan brought Liu Wenshuang back to the Vermilion Bird Kingdom. To express his gratitude to his queen for her rescue from afar, he specially requested an imperial decree for her. From then on, Liu Wenshuang was granted an imperial title and became one of the few ladies of the Vermilion Bird Kingdom to be granted an imperial title.

Although Mu Yulu had used some underhanded methods to win Mu Qinhan's love in her previous life, and had even inexplicably cast a love spell on him, now that she thinks back, she feels like she was the one who was bewitched by Mu Qinhan in her previous life.

Otherwise, she really couldn't understand how lowly a person would have to be to still love Mu Qinhan to death under such circumstances, and be willing to stay in the mansion as a concubine, serving the Mu family's Princess Liu Wenshuang, whom she hated to the core.

If Mu Qinhan hadn't driven her away, leaving her to return to the Vermilion Bird Kingdom alone, she wouldn't have encountered such danger.

If she hadn't been lucky enough to be rescued, she would probably have died a violent death long ago, and even her body would have been carried away by wild wolves in the mountains.

In this life, Mu Yulu finally understood. It was obvious that Mu Qinhan didn't treat her like a human being, yet she could still love him. She truly didn't know what she had loved in her previous life.

After returning to the palace in her previous life, she completely forgot what her savior had told her. When she saw Mu Qinhan again, she reverted to her subservient and worthless self.

However, having been given a second chance at life, and recalling the past once more, all she could think about was that person's clear, cold voice. She could no longer see Mu Qinhan's image in her mind; instead, the words that person had spoken echoed repeatedly.

They should at least pay the price.

If she can forgive everyone who has hurt her, then she deserved everything she experienced in her past life.

Thinking of this, a fierce look appeared on Mu Yulu's face.

She gripped the edge of the bed tightly with both hands, and her fingernails, as white as scallions, snapped off.

Mu Qinhan had been observing her the whole time, and seeing her expression growing increasingly grim, he couldn't help but lean closer: "So serious? What are you thinking about?"

Before he could finish speaking, a flash of cold light swept past his eyes, followed by a chilling dagger pressed against his neck.

This dagger had not been sharpened, but Mu Qinhan could feel the killing intent emanating from the blade.

He never expected that Mu Yulu had hidden a dagger under her pillow, and now she was pointing it at him with an extremely cold look in her eyes.

The hatred in her eyes seemed genuine, as if she wished she could skin him alive and tear him to pieces.

Including the time she fled for her life during the day, tonight was only their second meeting; the two should have had no interaction before.

Therefore, he did not understand the source of the hatred in her eyes.

Frowning, Mu Qinhan straightened up, his tone suddenly turning cold: "Under normal circumstances, if someone dared to point a dagger at me..."

Before he could finish speaking, Mu Yulu flipped her wrist, and the dagger that had been pointing at him was now pressed against her own neck.

Mu Qinhan's expression changed, and he suddenly reached out and snatched the dagger from Mu Yulu's hand.

He could see the determination in Mu Yulu's eyes. She wasn't acting. If he had been a step slower, the dagger would have really slit her throat, and she would have died.

Mu Qinhan broke out in a cold sweat.

Why did she do that?

What exactly is the grudge?

Looking at the woman in front of him, who was sometimes trying to kill him and sometimes trying to commit suicide, he felt a sense of powerlessness from the bottom of his heart.

The disgust in her eyes was truly unfathomable to him.

After gazing at her intently for a moment, Mu Qinhan turned and left through the window with a somber expression, a gentle breeze rising as he departed. The night wind brushed against Mu Yulu's face, bringing a slight chill, and she squinted slightly.

After sitting on the bed and calming down for a while, she picked up the dagger that Mu Qinhan had knocked to the ground and carefully put it back under her pillow.

Ever since she died once, she has become somewhat sensitive and suspicious, and she can't sleep well every night. So she took this small knife from the kitchen and puts it under her pillow every day.

Unexpectedly, it came in such a useful way today, actually fooling Mu Qinhan, which is a great achievement for it.

However, Mu Yulu really wanted to commit suicide just now, and she wasn't just trying to scare Mu Qinhan.

Even though she had already made up her mind that she would never fall in love with Mu Qinhan again in this lifetime, when she was actually facing her, the feeling of being moved came faster than the rational thoughts in her mind.

The overwhelming emotions she felt when facing Mu Qinhan seemed to have become a desire etched into her soul.

Was she really not under the influence of any curse?

Thinking about it, Mu Qinhan probably wouldn't stoop to planting a Gu poison on her.

But it was precisely because of this that Mu Yulu felt extremely desperate.

She could never control her emotions in front of him; her joy or anger would always be magnified a hundredfold. Rather than being so passive, she would rather die again.

Just as she lay back on the couch in despair, a large robe swept past her slightly ajar window.

Mu Yulu opened her eyes wide in horror and sat up again.

What just flew by?

After hesitating for a while, she suppressed her fear, put on her undergarments, and walked to the window.

I stood on tiptoe and peered out the window for a long time, but I didn't see a single bird in the yard. The moonlight was bright and clear, and the air was as pure as water, without any impurities.

Was she just too sleepy and had a hallucination?

She rubbed her eyes, preparing to close the window and go back to bed, when she suddenly felt a tightness in her chest.

Her heart suddenly began to pound violently, so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of her chest.

She immediately bent down and covered her chest, and it took her a long time to calm down.

She didn't understand what had caused that sudden heart palpitation; she had never experienced anything like it before.

Moreover, the palpitations came and went quickly, and she didn't know why, so she simply blamed them all on Mu Qinhan.

It seems that Mu Qinhan is indeed her nemesis. They have only met twice in this life, yet he has managed to make her heart ache with anger.

After cursing Mu Qinhan in her mind, she straightened up and prepared to close the window again.

As the window was half-closed and not yet fully shut, she suddenly saw a graceful figure standing on the opposite rooftop. The figure seemed to be facing the moon with his hands behind his back and his head tilted back, looking very profound.

What's wrong with everyone tonight? Nobody can sleep and everyone's watching the moon rise.

Mu Yulu couldn't help but glance at him a few more times.

This is quite something.

By the moonlight, she could vaguely see the man standing on the roof of her house, who seemed to be wearing a flamboyant pink outfit.

She rubbed her eyes and checked again to make sure she wasn't seeing things.

There is probably only one person in the world who can wear pink with such ethereal grace, with a figure as elegant as a fairy.

The figure before her gradually overlapped with the figure of her savior in Mu Yulu's memory.

Leaning her body out the window, Mu Yulu squinted and peered closer at him, noticing that the mask covering his face was reflecting the moonlight.

Alright, now she was certain that the person in front of her was her savior from her past life.

In their previous life, the two met on the border between the Vermilion Bird Kingdom and the Black Tortoise Kingdom, a distance of 108,000 miles from the Mu family mansion. But today, she met him in her own courtyard.

Why did this cold-blooded killer come to the roof of her house in the middle of the night?

She couldn't possibly be so foolish as to actually believe he came to look at the moon because he couldn't sleep at night.

After hesitating for a moment, she climbed out of the window and walked towards the attic where the man in the pink shirt was.

This pavilion is the tallest building in the Mu family mansion. Standing on the top of the pavilion, one can overlook the capital city. Mu Yugang personally participated in the design of this pavilion, which can be said to be his masterpiece.

The pavilion has a rich collection of books, with hundreds of books on each floor, and the pavilion is at least twenty stories high.

Despite the fact that the Mu family mansion boasts the most luxurious library in the entire capital, the patriarch, Mu Yugang, is actually quite uncultured; at most, he can only recognize a few characters.

Mu Yugang was a very successful businessman. He was a true self-made man. But because of this, what he hated most after he became successful was that others called him an illiterate and vulgar businessman who reeked of money.

Therefore, this library was merely a decorative piece used by Mu Yugang to prove his knowledge and had no practical use.

Mu Yulu climbed to the top of a long-abandoned courtyard that was close to the book pavilion, and looked up at the book pavilion and the person standing on the top of the book pavilion.

That's a really tall building...

Mu Yulu couldn't help but sigh.

Her father, who was the least cultured person, owned the tallest library in the entire capital. It seems that people love to show off what they lack.
