Chapter 13
Mu Yulu raised an eyebrow and tilted her head slightly, saying, "If anyone should go, it should be you. You are my senior, and I can only learn a third of your skills at most."
While the two were already at each other's throats and engaged in fierce fighting, Mu Yugang was genuinely laughing on the other side.
He seemed particularly pleased with the scene of Mu Yulu and Aunt Wang shaking hands and making peace, clapping his hands and laughing: "That's right, what misunderstandings can't be resolved within a family? Harmony in the family brings prosperity in all things."
The atmosphere in the room instantly became harmonious, as if the person who had been pointing at Mu Yulu and cursing her in front of her bed was not Mu Yugang, and the person who had been putting on an act from the beginning was not Aunt Wang.
And so the drama came to an end. Mu Yugang waved to Aunt Wang and said, "Alright, you should go back and rest. Xing'er needs someone to stay with her too. I still have something to say to Xiao Lu."
Aunt Wang responded, released Mu Yulu's hand, and turned to leave.
Only Mu Yugang and his daughter remained in the room. They exchanged a glance and simultaneously wiped the smiles from their faces.
Mu Yugang sat back down and nodded to Mu Yulu, gesturing for her to sit as well: "Xiaolu, let's just let yesterday's matter go. Don't be angry with your aunt; she was just worried and confused."
Mu Yulu lowered her head slightly, her gentle expression making her look exceptionally obedient: "Daughter became confused after falling into the water and doesn't remember what happened last night. Father said to turn the page, so naturally we will."
Mu Yugang seemed quite surprised by her answer. In his memory, this girl was a headstrong person. When did she learn to use the tactic of retreating to advance?
He silently observed Mu Yulu, feeling that although his daughter seemed the same as before, something about her had changed completely.
As for what has changed, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
The father and daughter sat there quietly, neither Mu Yugang nor Mu Yulu speaking, as if time had frozen between them.
After a long while, Mu Yugang coughed and spoke again: "By the way, I have good news for you. Prince Mu was injured last night while capturing an assassin."
Mu Yulu looked up: ? ? ?
This doesn't sound like good news at all, does it?
Mu Yugang continued, "He's moving to our family's manor today to recuperate from his injuries. This is a golden opportunity."
He winked at Mu Yulu, giving her a knowing look: "It just so happens that your mother is going to a temple near the villa to worship Buddha these days, and she will be staying there for a month or two. Naturally, you sisters will have to go with her to take care of her."
"Your second sister has already packed her things and will move to the mountain villa with your mother today. Xing'er will also be going there once she recovers from her illness."
He glanced at Mu Yulu again: "You should also get ready and go stay at the villa for a while to take good care of your mother."
Mu Yulu understood the deeper meaning in Mu Yugang's eyes. He originally didn't want to take her along, but perhaps she had changed a lot in recent days. At least she was no longer as reckless as before, so that she wouldn't offend Prince Mu if she went along. Therefore, he took her along as well.
She had no idea what her father was planning. The so-called service for her mother who went to worship Buddha was just a pretense that anyone with eyes could see through.
In reality, he wanted his daughters to show their faces in front of Prince Mu. If he got lucky and Prince Mu was blind and took a liking to one of them, wouldn't he, Mu Yugang, become a member of the royal family?
In fact, if we only consider looks, Mu Yulu is definitely the most outstanding of the three young ladies of the Mu family, and there is no other beauty like her in the entire capital.
However, everyone knows that this beauty is all show and no substance; she's just a pretty face with no substance, a useless pretty face but no brains.
Mu Yugang never placed any hope in this good-for-nothing, and given that Mu Yulu had been obsessed with Mu Qinhan in the past, he naturally dared not let her see Prince Mu.
Becoming a member of the royal family would be ideal, but if Mu Yulu, that madwoman, were allowed to offend Prince Mu, then the dozens of people in the Mu family would be doomed.
Therefore, Mu Yugang kept the fact that Mu Qinhan was recuperating at the Mu family's villa in his previous life a secret from Mu Yulu, and only secretly took Mu Xingzi and Mu Wanyi with him.
When Mu Yulu learned of this, she caused a huge scene in the courtyard.
In her past life, Mu Yulu was furious because she couldn't go to the manor and see Mu Qinhan. In this life, however, Mu Yulu is eager not to go to the manor and not to meet Mu Qinhan.
She just wanted to get as far away from this plague as possible.
After organizing her thoughts, she said sincerely, "I fell into the water twice and feel quite weak. I'd like to trouble my two younger sisters to take care of Mother. I'd like to stay at home and recuperate."
Before Mu Yugang could speak, she sighed and continued, "Besides, you just said that Prince Mu also needs to recuperate in our manor. Look at my daughter, she looks like a sick ghost. What if she frightens Prince Mu?"
Mu Yugang found her reasoning sound and was unable to refute her for a moment.
He originally wanted to take Mu Yulu to the manor just to increase the chances of becoming a member of the royal family.
But after listening to Mu Yulu's words and carefully examining her appearance while she was ill, I suddenly felt that the probability of her being infected was negligible.
Moreover, what she said was not without reason. If not only did she fail to seduce Mu Qinhan, but she also offended this distinguished guest, wouldn't that be a loss?
Mu Yugang never does business that loses money.
He nodded thoughtfully and didn't press the matter further.
Just as Mu Yulu breathed a sigh of relief, she heard Mu Yugang ask, "But Yulu, didn't you always want to see Prince Mu? Why don't you want to go now that you have the chance?"
Mu Yulu's heart skipped a beat, and her mind raced.
After her rebirth, she deliberately avoided Mu Qinhan to avoid getting involved in all the causes and effects that led to the tragedy of her previous life. Although she tried her best to hide herself, Mu Yugang still noticed that something was wrong.
Before she could carry out her plan and leave this suffocating place, she couldn't let Mu Yugang notice anything amiss.
Mu Yulu raised her hand, pretending to wipe away tears, but then a plan formed in her mind: "Father, to be honest, I've been going through a lot of emotional turmoil lately, and I really don't know what to do."
Mu Yugang, looking like a caring father trying to ease his daughter's worries, leaned forward and asked, "What's troubling you? Tell me about it."
Mu Yulu wiped away another tear: "Prince Mu is indeed a dragon among men, one in a million. He is handsome and has a great figure, so I can't forget him. I used to always beg to marry him. But Father, you are a man, and you have three wives and four concubines in the manor. You must understand my feelings. The ideal man doesn't necessarily have to be one type. The white moonlight and the cinnabar mole each have their own charm..."
Mu Yugang's face darkened as he listened: "Get to the point."
Mu Yulu coughed lightly: "Prince Mu is like the white moonlight in the sky, I do love him, but recently I have met another 'cinnabar mole'. Father, you don't know, that person is even more handsome than Prince Mu, and has a better figure than Prince Mu..."
Mu Yugang couldn't hold back any longer and gritted his teeth to remind Mu Yulu once again: "Get to the point."
Mu Yulu then said, "It's a pity I'm a girl, unlike my father who could have three wives and four concubines. If only I could have three husbands and four concubines, I wouldn't be suffering like this right now."
She then sighed dramatically, "I certainly like Prince Mu, but I really can't let go of that girl with the cinnabar mole. So I've been intentionally avoiding the prince lately. If I end up choosing the girl with the cinnabar mole, wouldn't I be provoking the prince for nothing and hurting him?"
Mu Yugang was so angry he almost vomited.
He jumped up and pointed at Mu Yulu's nose for a long time, even forgetting to ask who the cinnabar mole she mentioned was: "What kind of behavior is this? What kind of behavior is this!"
He paced anxiously around the room: "I never knew you had such lofty ambitions! One Prince Mu isn't enough, you want that cinnabar mole too? I think you've got a pig's brain!"
He clearly wanted to say something more, but Mu Yulu's anger rendered his language system malfunctioning, and he didn't know how to organize his thoughts for a moment.
He sighed heavily, glared at Mu Yulu with exasperation, and turned to leave: "Now it seems your aunt was right. You've probably messed up your brain. Stay in the manor and don't go out and bump into people again."
Mu Yulu put on a convincing act, still looking conflicted and uneasy, watching Mu Yugang leave with a pitiful expression.
However, Mu Yugang had only taken two steps and reached the door when he suddenly turned around and stared at Mu Yulu with a suspicious look.
Mu Yulu looked back at him calmly: "Father, is there anything else you would like to tell me?"
Mu Yugang asked her, "Just now you kept talking about having three wives and four concubines. Were you implying something about your father?"
At this point, he seemed to remember something else, and his expression became even more suspicious: "Also, you just said that the Mu family favors concubines over wives, who taught you that?"
Mu Yulu looked guilty, her gaze darting away, avoiding Mu Yugang's eyes. She defended herself, saying, "I only heard this from storybooks. Besides, I was just in a moment of panic and spoke without thinking. I didn't really mean to say that you favor your concubine over your wife..."
Mu Yulu's reaction confirmed Mu Yugang's suspicions. He immediately said with a gloomy face, "You still won't tell the truth in front of your father? I ask you, did Zhao teach you to say these things?"
Mu Yulu quickly denied it: "How could that be? My mother always dislikes her daughter for being noisy. She even exempts me from paying my respects every day. She also doesn't allow me to serve her. I might not even see my mother once a month. How could I have the chance to hear her say these things to me?"
Mu Yugang sneered repeatedly: "You don't need to cover for her. She's your mother, but has she ever fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother? She raised a perfectly good daughter into someone like you..."
His voice trailed off as he remembered that he hadn't come to attack Mu Yulu, so he changed the subject: "If you didn't hear these words from the Zhao family, then where did you hear them from? Tell me everything clearly."
