Chapter 11 Similar Things
The structure of the laboratory is similar to what Pei Du remembered.
There were several old buildings stacked together. Pei Du walked into the innermost one, opened the door and saw the walls inside with cracks.
The new laboratory building is already under construction, but the relationship between the military and the laboratory is becoming increasingly tense. Most experimenters have to go to the front line to come into direct contact with alien species, which directly threatens the lives of the experimenters.
Most of Pei Du's former colleagues have resigned and gone to other places, and only a few have chosen to stay here like Pei Du.
Pei Du walked up the stairs. There were no windows in the corridor of this experimental building, and the inside was entirely lit by incandescent lights above the head.
The light on the third floor broke down at some point. Pei Du pressed the buttons a few times, and the light above his head flickered for a few seconds and then went out.
The whole corridor was dim and dark. Pei Du withdrew his hand, turned on the light of his mobile phone and walked on the stairs. Suddenly he regretted not bringing the walking flashlight with him.
Pei Du secretly felt sorry for himself. He continued to walk up. When he raised his eyes, he suddenly saw some familiar light.
At the corner of the stairs, a glowing ball floated in the air. Its white color was as soft as moonlight, illuminating the walls and the road beside it.
Pei Du paused: "Just survive."
The ball seemed to be startled. It suddenly ran into the next room, and all the light on its body disappeared from Pei Du's eyes.
Pei Du frowned. The real-time monitoring on his mobile phone was still going on. Pei Du switched to another interface and saw Sheng Shixian biting the iron chain and grinding his teeth.
The Rubik's Cube on the table was thrown aside by Sheng Shixian, and he was still living at home and staring at Sheng Shixian.
...What is that white ball?
Pei Du walked quickly in the direction where the white ball disappeared. He walked into the corner and almost bumped head-on into the person coming out of the room at the door.
"Sorry, sorry... Are you okay? I was in too much of a hurry when I came out just now." The man's collar was a little messy, and he didn't wipe the water droplets on his hands, as if he had just come out of the toilet.
Pei Du turned sideways and took a step back to avoid close contact with the person in front of him.
"It's okay." Pei Du glanced at him. The man was wearing black-framed glasses and had thick and long hair that hung down and covered half of his eyes.
He was still wearing his white lab coat, with his collar turned up to hide the vague and ambiguous kiss marks on his neck.
"Hello, Director. Okay, I'll be there right away..." The man was talking on the other end of the phone, and as he spoke, he quickly walked past Pei Du.
Pei Du withdrew his gaze, walked into the toilet, turned on the faucet and washed his hands.
The sound of running water was heard inside. After Pei Du washed his hands, he took two pieces of paper to wipe his fingers. While wiping, he observed the space inside the toilet and did not see the ball again.
The ball appeared for a very short time just now, and the white light flashed by, so fast that Pei Du now suspected it was an illusion.
It was quiet in the toilet and you could hear the sound of people breathing. The toilet in this old laboratory was not very good. The partition doors were wide open and the conditions of each cubicle in the toilet were visible at a glance.
Pei Du walked a few steps inside and suddenly heard a slight sound coming from the innermost toilet cubicle.
The sound was not loud, but it was particularly obvious in this empty space.
Pei Du stopped walking. The partition door of the last toilet cubicle was tightly closed, and the person inside seemed to have taken a few more steps in a hurry.
"Thump, thump."
Like the sound of high heels.
Another suppressed sob was heard right after that.
"Don't, don't come over here..."
The voice was low and tearful, a clear and distinct female voice.
Pei Du stopped suddenly. He thought of the kiss mark on the neck of the man he had just met at the door, and he had already guessed most of the situation in his mind.
Pei Du was even more speechless.
Everything can be played with. This man and woman played in the men's restroom in the laboratory. Not only that, after they were done, the man left, but the girl was actually left inside.
Pei Du turned around and did not move forward: "He has already left. There are still ten minutes until the lab's break. If you don't want to be seen, leave quickly."
The girl in the toilet cubicle made a slight sniffling sound and lowered her voice: "...Thank you."
Pei Du didn't have the time to stay in there any longer, so he half-closed the toilet door and left.
This experimental building was already very old. Pei Du took note of several damaged areas as he walked along the road.
Pei Du first returned to his original laboratory. After he fell ill, many experimental tasks were handed over to other people, but the things in the laboratory remained in their original state.
Pei Du found the experimental equipment from before. He reached into his pocket and took out all the minced meat wrapped in film in his shirt pocket.
Originally, it was the rotten meat from Sheng Shixian's legs. Qi Sheng cut it off and threw it all into the trash can. In order not to arouse suspicion, Pei Du secretly rummaged through the trash can in the middle of the night and picked up the rotten meat.
Sheng Shixian thought that the virus in his body was not ordinary, but no matter what, Pei Du didn't want him to be so stupid forever.
Not only could he not get any clues, Pei Du also had to spend money to maintain this Buddha.
He only has one year. If Sheng Shixian needs another year to recover, Pei Du will still be killed.
The best way is to make Sheng Shixian remember what happened in the past as soon as possible.
Pei Du picked up the things on the table with tweezers and placed them under the microscope.
*
The test report will probably come out in three or four days. Pei Du packed up the equipment and wiped the table clean.
About ten minutes later, the rest bell rang throughout the entire laboratory, and the originally quiet corridor was soon filled with noisy sounds.
"Brother Pei, the director just asked about your situation when you came here!" The door of the laboratory was opened, and an experimenter who was slightly shorter than Pei Du walked in with data in his hands.
Pei Du also greeted Lu Zifan, "I just arrived not long ago, I will go to see the director after I pack my things."
"Then you have to hurry up. The director has been very interested in you recently..." Lu Zifan lowered his voice. He piled all the documents in his hand on Pei Du's desk and said, "These are the task documents that have been piled up since you fell ill. There are a total of 136 copies. The director asked you to complete them within three months."
Pei Du: “…”
“My mission is not to be assigned to others.”
"Yes." Lu Zifan nodded. "They were all assigned to others before, but now that you are back, you are responsible for these from the beginning. When the director heard that you were coming back, he asked them to return the tasks to you. Anyway, those experiments have not officially started yet."
Pei Du looked at the data files piled up like a small mountain on the table and said hesitantly, "Actually, I'm not well yet, I..."
"I know, senior brother, you went to work despite being ill, which is a selfless contribution!" Lu Zifan said with a smile. After he finished speaking, he moved a pile of documents in from outside and piled them all on Pei Du's laboratory table.
"The director also asked me to learn from you. If you need any help in the future, just call me!"
Pei Du was speechless. He was silent for a few seconds and then said, "...Okay."
