Chapter 13 Extended Time

Chapter 13 Extended Time

The door opened and closed. Pei Du walked forward after Ling Yu left. He put all the documents in his hand on the table, with his medical record on top.

"Director, I have sorted out the previous data." Pei Du stood very properly in front of Gong Yuanshen.

Gong Yuanshen picked up the medical record. He read the words on the paper with his cloudy eyes and said in a not-so-friendly tone: "Cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath... You are seriously ill."

Pei Du added: "I had a fever at home before, but I am better now."

Gong Yuanshen pushed the glasses on his nose with his fingers, closed the medical record book, and glanced at Pei Du's right hand wrapped in a bandage: "I think you can't hold on any longer, so you remembered to come over."

Pei Du knew he couldn't hide it, so he covered his right hand and said, "It was just a bite, it's no big deal."

"It will be too late if something serious happens! Do you think no one will notice that you will be infected and grow some cat or dog hair and tail? Then you can just wait to die!"

Gong Yuanshen's eyes were filled with anger. He took out a tube of medicine from the drawer and pushed it across the table in front of Pei Du. "You take it yourself. Don't let the military find out."

Pei Du took the medicine and put it in his pocket with ease. He hummed, "Thank you, Director."

Gong Yuanshen didn't have a good look on Pei Du's face. He picked up the data book on the table and flipped through the pages one by one: "Now that your condition has improved, you can come back to work. The pile of documents and projects now are all left by you. You must finish them all within three months at the latest."

Pei Du had prepared action plans for these projects before, and they could be completed with only specific experiments and data recording. It was not a difficult task, but Pei Du hesitated for a moment and said, "Director, three months is too tight, how about six months?"

Pei Du coughed as he spoke: "I have someone to support at home, he can't leave me for too long."

Gong Yuanshen: “…”

As far as Gong Yuanshen knew, Pei Du had a fiancée. Pei Du had spent millions of dollars on this so-called fiancée over the years, but An Jia seemed to have no intention of marrying Pei Du until now.

Pei Du is actually still giving money to An Jia.

"You..." Gong Yuanshen's lips trembled, and he was hesitant to speak.

After Pei Du's parents passed away, Pei Du spent most of his time in the laboratory. His father was also an experimenter, and Pei Du inherited his father's talents in many aspects. Later, he chose to conduct xenospecies research for a long time.

From junior high school to college, Gong Yuanshen watched him grow up.

Gong Yuanshen taught Pei Du everything he had learned in his life. Pei Du lived up to his expectations and was able to handle most of the alien experiments with ease at a young age. Even the military had heard of him.

But this student that Gong Yuan is so proud of is willing to serve as an ATM for others outside.

Gong Yuanshen was very angry when he thought about this, but this was Pei Du's private matter, so he couldn't interfere too much. He just gave Pei Du a few symbolic suggestions.

"Pei Du, you are not young anymore. Sometimes you should be more open-minded and don't hang yourself on one tree. Do you understand?"

Pei Du was slightly stunned when he heard this.

Sheng Shixian didn't know whether it was a "dog" or not. Pei Du should indeed broaden his horizons and go out to see if there were any other "dogs".

You can't hang yourself on one tree.

Pei Du nodded and said, "I know. I will find a way."

Seeing that Pei Du had not yet reached the point where he had to have An Jia, Gong Yuanshen was relieved: "Okay, I have nothing else to do. You should hurry up and finish the project at hand, and don't delay the progress."

Pei Du took the data book back from the table, sorted out his things, and confirmed the next mission plan with Gong Yuanshen before preparing to leave.

"Director, have you taken back the missing bottle of blood No. 89 in my laboratory?" Pei Du turned around and remembered what happened before, and turned back to ask Gong Yuanshen.

"Yes." Gong Yuan's forehead was covered with wrinkles. His voice was mellow and his light grey eyes showed unknown emotions. "The military has set a time limit. I will do the rest of the experiment for you after you get sick."

Pei Du didn't expect the military to press him so hard. He lowered his eyes and said, "Excuse me, teacher."

"Why would they pick a fight? I am not used to them, old man! I can do an experiment!" Gong Yuanshen sneered, a cold light flashed across his glasses, reflecting Pei Du's face, "You don't need to have any contact with them."

Pei Du understood Gong Yuanshen's intention. The relationship between the laboratory and the military has become increasingly tense in recent years. The military is quite dissatisfied with the fact that the experimental area has been unable to develop an effective vaccine and has wasted a lot of resources, while the experimental area also opposes the military's increasingly extreme disposal plans.

Pei Du is just a small experimenter now. Although he has some fame, his identity will inevitably be suspected when he comes into contact with the military top brass.

The wound on his right hand was emitting a slight pain. The flesh that was bitten by Sheng Shixian was slowly healing. He clenched his fist intentionally and felt the itchy pain.

"Director, this laboratory building is very old. Several lights were broken on the way here. When do you plan to move to the new laboratory building?" Pei Du did not continue and changed the subject.

"The new building hasn't been completed yet, why are you in such a hurry?" Gong Yuanshen drank his fire-extinguishing tea. He didn't care. "When you develop the final plan, we will move in."

Pei Du thought that he would have to wait another ten or twenty years. He sighed and said, "Okay."

Pei Du picked up the things, said goodbye to Gong Yuanshen, then turned around, opened the door and walked out.

Pei Du did not plan to stay in the laboratory for long. Gong Yuanshen was merciful and extended the deadline for Pei Du to complete the task. Pei Du decided to go home as planned.

Pei Du had done these projects in his life, and he had no burden to do them again now.

His main purpose of coming to the laboratory this time was to detect the virus cells in Sheng Shixian's body.

When Pei Du left, he specifically greeted the person on duty. He took away four or five file bags, intending to deal with them when he returned.

It was already around six or seven in the evening. The sky outside had darkened, and shadows were cast, making the corridor of the old building even darker.

Pei Du turned on the flash on his cell phone as usual. From time to time, he could hear the sounds of the experimenters walking and talking on the stairs. The dense footsteps were sometimes heavy and sometimes light. As Pei Du walked down, the sounds echoing in his ears gradually disappeared.

Pei Du stopped when he passed by the restroom on the third floor again. This restroom was older than other places, and few experimenters were willing to come here.

Pei Du looked at the light coming from the bathroom and thought of the white ball he had seen before. It was like an illusion and disappeared in front of Pei Du in that instant.

Pei Du paused slightly, but still walked in.

The experimenters at this point were all working. Pei Du looked up at the upper wall of the bathroom. Apart from the peeling white paint and cracks, he didn't see anything different.

Pei Du stopped in front of the innermost toilet cubicle. The door was tightly closed before, but now it was half open, revealing one third of the situation inside.
