Chapter 16 Bouquet of Roses
Pei Du was speechless about Sheng Shixian's actions.
According to the rate at which Sheng Shixian eats two toothbrushes a day, Pei Du will have to buy at least a hundred more toothbrushes as backup.
"Uh...does your tooth hurt?" Pei Du asked.
Sheng Shi rolled his eyes enviously: "A little bit."
The plastic wouldn't hurt his teeth, but it would cut his gums, where the soft flesh was fragile and not yet as strong.
Sheng Shixian sensed the taste of blood in his mouth, and he closed his mouth without saying another word.
"That's not how you brush your teeth." Pei Du sighed. He took the toothbrush and toothpaste and demonstrated it to Sheng Shixian, intending to guide him in using it correctly. "Just brush it until the foam comes out. There's no need to bite it off. Just like this."
Sheng Shixian propped up the sink with one hand, his eyes following Pei Du's movements, his pupils reflecting Pei Du's eyebrows and eyes completely. Pei Du's eyelids were thin, and his pupils, which were a little darker than Sheng Shixian's, would occasionally reveal his features.
"Do you understand?" Pei Du asked.
"Yeah." The darkness in Sheng Shi's eyes gradually thickened. He nodded slightly after watching Pei Du's entire demonstration.
Pei Du did not ask any more questions. Sheng Shixian had a strong learning ability and he could probably learn something as simple as brushing teeth just by watching it once.
Pei Du washed his face as well. After that, he put the things on the sink in order and put a new toothbrush for Sheng Shixian inside.
Sheng Shixian stood there motionless. He had sat for five or six hours in the afternoon, so Pei Du gave him some extra time in the evening to exercise.
Sheng Shixian walked around the house twice with a cane, and Pei Du followed behind him, paying attention to his every move.
Sheng Shixian stayed in every part of the house for a long time, as if he wanted to memorize every structure of the house in his mind.
Pei Du held a laissez-faire attitude towards this. With his IQ rising rapidly at that time, it would only be a matter of time before he mastered the structure of a house.
Pei Du was willing to let him know in advance to prevent him from having any evil intentions in the future and causing trouble for Pei Du in disguise.
Sheng Shixian walked hesitantly and slowly. He passed by the long table in the hall and stopped for more than ten minutes.
Pei Du thought he had something to say: "I need to take a rest."
Sheng Shixian didn't say anything, he looked away and continued to walk forward with his crutches. When he reached the same position in the second circle, Sheng Shixian seemed to have suddenly lost his vitality and stood in front of the long table in a daze like a wooden stick.
But this time it lasted longer, nearly half an hour.
Pei Du immediately noticed something was wrong. He followed Sheng Shi's envious gaze and looked forward, his eyes fixed on the top of the long table.
This long table is quite old and is made of imported ebony. The wood is hard on the outside and has a very high density, so it sinks immediately in water. The pattern on the ebony is ordinary, like ink falling into water, spreading out and forming ripples.
Pei Du placed very few things on the table, except for the daily fruits and a vase with a bouquet of roses. The water in the glass vase had long been turbid, and the rose petals on top had rotted into a dead gray-yellow color.
"Flowers." Sheng Shixian was silent for a while and then uttered a word.
Pei Du narrowed his eyes slightly when he heard this.
He remembered that the day he was reborn, the roses in the vase had already rotted. Pei Du changed the water in the vase at that time, bought a new bunch of roses and put them in to keep them. Now, nearly a week later, the flowers have withered again.
But the normal life span of a rose in a vase is about seven days. Pei Du just thought it was a natural phenomenon and didn't pay too much attention to it.
Why did Sheng Shixian pay special attention to these roses?
Pei Du walked forward, picked up the vase, and looked carefully from the turbid sewage inside to the rotten rose bouquet on top.
The rose petals had already been weakened. They were attached to the calyx at the base, and Pei Du only needed to hold them with a little force to cause them to fall off in large pieces like an avalanche.
The edges of the petals that fell on the table were mostly gray and yellow. Pei Du picked up two almost rotten rose petals. He looked closer and saw a large number of white and green dots at the end of the petals.
The ends of the petals are originally white, and these dots only appear green at the edges of the curves. The closer to the red center of the petals, the lighter the color of the dots becomes, making them more difficult to detect.
Pei Du vaguely guessed something. He squeezed the rose petals in his hand tightly, and then fanned the top of the petals with his palm from a distance, and smelled the rose fragrance.
The faint smell floated to Pei Du's nose, and rushed to his head a dozen seconds later. Pei Du's eyes went dark for a moment, and he held the corner of the table, almost losing his balance.
Sheng Shixian was standing behind Pei Du. Seeing this, he grabbed the corner of Pei Du's clothes and threw the rotten roses aside.
"Dirty." Sheng Shixian held Pei Du's wrist. He imitated Pei Du's previous behavior and wiped his fingers one by one with a wet tissue.
Pei Du's knuckles were long, and his thin, light-colored nails looked even more transparent under the light. Sheng Shi enviously stroked the skin on his palm with his thumb, and unexpectedly felt a thin coil similar to his own in Pei Du's hand.
Pei Du also came back to his senses after a few seconds. The wet tissue felt cool when it wiped across his palm. He lowered his eyes and looked at Sheng Shixian's actions. After moving his fingertips slightly twice, he still did not pull back.
After Sheng Shixian finished wiping Pei Du, he took out a few more pieces of paper and wiped every part of himself, from his fingernails to his palms and wrists, carefully three or four times before throwing the tissue into the trash can.
Pei Du saw him wiping it again and again and felt a little amused: "You love cleanliness so much."
Sheng Shi hummed enviously.
Pei Du's drowsiness gradually faded away. He kicked away the rose bouquet scattered on the ground and said with a bit of melancholy, "It seems I have to change my job. I can't clean the toilet every day."
Sheng Shi was jealous: “…”
Pei Du then cleaned all the rooms on the first floor. Except for the rose petals that had rotted and were in a mess, he collected all the other parts.
Pei Du did not pour out the dirty water in the vase. He sorted them out and put them in a compartment, preparing to take them to the laboratory for testing tomorrow.
Pei Du didn't know how many times he had bought roses and how many stores he had changed over the years. And the person who drugged him was able to accurately grasp his whereabouts every time and mix the poison into the roses.
The withered rose petals looked like a mass of rotten mud, rotten and dead. Pei Du put them all into an isolation bag, threw them into the compartment and locked it.
Sheng Shixian had already returned to the sofa to rest. Only after Pei Du finished dealing with everything and approached him did Sheng Shixian raise his sleepy head.
The emotion in his dark eyes was calm, as if he was saying something.
Pei Du squatted in front of him with handcuffs and leg cuffs: "What's wrong?"
Sheng Shixian remained silent. He took out several things from his pocket and placed them in front of Pei Du one by one.
Those are five completely restored Rubik's cubes.
