21. Despicable Wang Xiaoping

"This dress was given to me by my mother when I was discharged from the hospital. This is the first time I wear it today. As for this watch, it was a present from my second brother for my sixteenth birthday. I will not give it away." Yi Si said mercilessly.

Wang Xiaoping secretly resented Yi Yi for speaking so bluntly. She thought, "If you can't give yours to others, can't you ask your mother to buy me one too? It's just a piece of clothing. It's not like your family can't afford it. Why are you making this fuss if you can't give it to me? If you hadn't said anything, maybe my aunt would have agreed to give it to me. What's wrong with this damn girl today? I would have gotten the things myself in the past, so why do I have to keep asking her for money today?" In fact, the Wang family's conditions were not as pitiful as she said. Although Wang Haobing's salary was not high, he had made a lot of money in recent years. Their family now had two stores in Beijing, and the rent was enough to cover their expenses. They hadn't had any major expenses for so many years, so how could they be short of money? She said this just to be miserable because she was poor. Every bit of free money was good. Unfortunately, with Liang Yi Yi in her corner, her hardship was in vain.

Ming Huixin saw that the atmosphere was awkward, so she hurried to smooth things over. "Jianlan, it's already noon, stop chatting. Hurry up and wash your hands and get ready for lunch."

After washing their hands, the group came out. Wang Xiaoping walked behind Yiyi. When they were almost at the table, Aunt Zhang came out with a bowl of steaming hot chicken soup. Wang Xiaoping's eyes rolled, and she moved closer to Aunt Zhang. When she wasn't paying attention, she tripped over her. Aunt Zhang was so busy serving the soup that she didn't realize someone was tripping her. She was about to fall when she screamed "Ah!" The chicken soup was fresh out of the pot. It was early summer, and people were wearing few clothes. If it spilled on someone, the consequences would be disastrous. Ming Huixin was standing at the head of the table, two or three meters away from Yiyi. She watched Aunt Zhang fall towards Yiyi, her face pale with fear. Just as the bowl of soup was about to fly out of her hand, Liang Yiyi seemed to have eyes behind her. She turned quickly, first reaching out one hand to steady Aunt Zhang's leaning body, and at the same time using the other hand to hold the bowl steadily. Not a drop of the soup spilled. Liang Wenlong had just gone to the bathroom. When he came out of the bathroom, he happened to see Yi Yi turning around. He was secretly glad that Yi Yi reacted quickly. It seemed that the teaching in the past two days was not in vain. He would have to watch Yi Yi and learn well in the future. Ming Huixin hurried to Yi Yi's side and took the soup bowl from her hand and put it on the dining table. Only then did she feel relieved and asked Yi Yi: "Are you scalded? Are you scared? Let your mother take a look." Liang Yiyi gave her mother a reassuring look to indicate that she was fine. She turned to the stunned Aunt Zhang and asked: "Aunt Zhang, what happened just now?" Aunt Zhang came back to her senses after hearing Yi Yi's question: "I was tripped by my cousin just now. I didn't mean to."

Several people looked over at Wang Xiaoping. She'd already regretted stretching her legs. What she'd done today was too obvious. If Liang Yiyi got into trouble, she'd be in big trouble. But she absolutely couldn't admit this. "You're talking nonsense! It was you who was walking carelessly and nearly fell and burned Yiyi. You don't admit your mistake and you're blaming me. How can you say such things? Besides, it wasn't like she actually burned anyone. Yiyi wouldn't blame you, right?" Wang Xiaoping said this with a look of resentment on her face, and anyone who didn't know would actually believe her.

Although Liang Jianlan didn't see Wang Xiaoping tripping anyone, she knew that her sister-in-law's nanny wouldn't lie. She also knew her daughter well and knew she was capable of such a thing, so she quickly agreed from the side: "That's right, if you do something wrong, you have to admit it. How can you push it onto others? You can't even do a small thing right, and yet you still wrongly accuse someone else. I think there's something wrong with your character. If you don't like it, just fire her so she doesn't get in your way. I'll find you a better one tomorrow."

Aunt Zhang looked aggrieved by what they were saying. Just as she was about to retort, Liang Yiyi winked at her, urging her to calm down. Then Ming Huixin said, "Sister Zhang has been with us for over a decade. She's discreet, never lies, never talks too much, and has excellent cooking skills. We all love her, so don't worry about our family affairs." If Aunt Zhang hadn't lied, then Wang Xiaoping was the one who had. Liang Jianlan understood the implication of her sister-in-law's words, but she didn't dare say anything further, lest it become too awkward.

Ming Huixin knew Wang Xiaoping would never admit to this. Although everyone knew she was the one who did it, she would never say it out loud. But she should be thankful that Yi Yi was fine, otherwise she would not care about family ties anymore.

"The food's getting cold. Let's eat first. Sister Zhang, go get busy." Minghui suppressed her anger and greeted everyone to eat. Liang Wenlong walked over to Yiyi and ruffled her hair, a flicker of heartache in his eyes. It was always like this, things always ended up like this. He felt extremely guilty for not being able to protect his sister. It was all his fault. He knew the danger level of the mother and daughter was extremely high, but he still walked away. He should have stayed by Yiyi's side. Fortunately, Yiyi escaped, otherwise he would be filled with guilt.

Everyone at the table had their own thoughts, and the meal was extremely dull.

After dinner, Wang Xiaoping and her daughter, feeling guilty, didn't dare stay any longer and left after a short while. The three of them breathed a sigh of relief after seeing off the plague-ridden couple. It wasn't that they were afraid of them, but whenever they came, the family had to be extremely vigilant in dealing with them, otherwise they would easily fall into their trap.

"Wenlong, call your father and ask him to come back early and stop wasting time outside. Also, when he comes back, tell him what happened at home today." Minghuixin said, then turned and went upstairs, "I'm going to take a nap. I'm tired." The brother and sister looked at each other in the living room, and they knew in their hearts that they had scared their mother today. Their mother's health was not as good as that of normal people. Fortunately, nothing really happened today, otherwise their mother would have fallen ill.

Liang Jianjun was wondering when he received the call from his son. His sister never left so soon after coming back in the past. Why did she go back so early today? The brat didn't say much, leaving him to wonder. He turned to the old man who was almost asleep while fishing and said, "Dad, your grandson called and asked us to go back early." The old man asked in a daze after hearing what his son said, "What time is it that asked us to go back?" "Half past one," Liang Jianjun answered. "That's not right. It's never this early every time! Did something happen?" the old man asked. "Wenlong doesn't sound like it. Anyway, you've had enough fishing, why don't we go back first." "Then say hello to your uncle Liu and the others. We'll go back first and not leave with them."

Liang Jianguo said hello and asked the driver to drive away. He picked up the fishing gear and the spoils of the old father and son and hurried back. He said it with ease, but he was very worried in his heart. However, he couldn't tell the old man, for fear that the old man would get anxious and angry again, which would cause more trouble.
