Chapter 37: Secret Chamber

Shinji Ryoda sat steadily in the chair, but her clenched fists on the armrests revealed her thoughts.

Suddenly, as if he had thought of something, Ryoda Shinji stood up, locked the study door from the inside, and walked to the antique display stand where a half-man-high vase stood. He held the vase and turned it in a circle. With a click, the display stand shifted about half a meter to the right, revealing a one-man-wide entrance. It turned out there was a secret room. Liang Yiyi saw Ryoda Shinji had already walked in, so she hurried out of the space and tiptoed towards the door. When she reached the door, Liang Yiyi stopped because Ryoda Shinji's footsteps had stopped. It turned out there was actually another door here.

So Liang Yiyi saw his arm move slightly a few times, and then the password door opened. After Ryoda Shinji walked into the door, Liang Yiyi followed him to the password door on tiptoe. Afraid of being discovered, Liang Yiyi immediately entered the space. Due to the angle, Liang Yiyi could only see a few antiques placed diagonally opposite the door. Unlike the antique shelves outside, the ones inside seemed to be much older. Liang Yiyi also saw that there was a large Yuan Dynasty blue and white jar with a peony pattern, a Chenghua Doucai Chicken Cup, and a glass imperial green pine crane longevity ornament. How much are these worth? These are just a few of the pieces Liang Yiyi could recognize.

Just as he was thinking, he heard Ryoda Shinji muttering inside, "I knew you would throw them away after using them. Fortunately, I was prepared. With these things, I can live comfortably anywhere I go." After that, Liang Yiyi heard the "click" sound of a safe opening, and then the rustling of paper pages. He heard Ryoda Shinji say again, "These are my life-saving things. With these, what do I have to fear? Humph, Sakurako, that bitch, relies on being sent by the higher-ups to boss me around. She doesn't even think about what she would have done without me working so hard here over the years. Sooner or later, I'll teach her a lesson." Then, he heard footsteps walking out. Liang Yiyi hurried out of the space and walked out. After leaving the secret room, he quickly entered the space again. Then Ryoda Shinji left the secret room and closed the door. Soon the antique shelf returned to normal. Ryoda Shinji took a few more glances in the study and saw that everything was normal and there was no flaw, so he left the study.

Listening to the footsteps slowly fading away, Liang Yiyi waited for another half an hour, making sure no one would come to the study again. Then she emerged from the space and looked at the combination lock in front of her with disdain. For someone of Liang Yiyi's level, this lock was simply child's play. So Liang Yiyi simply walked into the secret room as if it were no one's home. Originally, Liang Yiyi had seen a corner of the secret room from outside and had already imagined what it would contain. But when she actually saw what was inside, she was so shocked that she couldn't describe it as shocking. This place was simply a small treasure trove.

Liang Yiyi couldn't determine the exact value of these antiques, but there were about thirty or so on the shelves. Something that could be placed alongside a Chenghua Doucai Chicken Cup and an Imperial Green Jadeite must be worth a lot, and there were over thirty of them! Then there was a patch of yellow—yes, you guessed it, gold. Over a hundred gold bars, each weighing 500 grams, were piled on the floor. With the current price of gold between 110 and 120 yuan per gram, that pile of gold was worth five or six million yuan. This amount of gold couldn't compare to the antiques, but who had ever seen such a pile of gold just lying around? Then there was a pile of money, RMB and US dollars. Liang Yiyi estimated that the RMB took up more space, probably around 20 million, while the US dollars took up a little less, but still a few million. There were also two palm-sized jewelry boxes, which Liang Yiyi didn't bother to open because she finally saw the safe, which might contain something important.

It was a mechanical combination lock, requiring a dial to find the correct combination. Liang Yiyi placed her ear against the safe, listening to the creak of the lock cylinder as the dial turned. A minute later, it clicked, and the lock opened. Liang Yiyi pulled out a pair of rubber gloves and put them on. Inside were some IDs, three bank cards, two passbooks, and several other documents. Liang Yiyi had no interest in the rest, so she simply opened them and examined them one by one. Her face grew increasingly pale as she examined them. The first two documents were proof of bribery from Ryouta Shinji to high-ranking government officials. These were undoubtedly Ryouta Shinji keeping them to threaten others later. Liang Yiyi didn't feel so bad when she read them, but the third was different. It was proof that a high-ranking official from a certain province had sold a recently developed national patent to Ryouta Shinji. The next few documents were similar, and one was a diagram of a new weapon developed by the Chinese military. Liang Yiyi was furious. Was there a spy or an agent in the army? Otherwise, how could such a thing be in the hands of a businessman, and what would he do with it? Liang Yiyi was now filled with unanswered questions. Then, in a thin envelope, he discovered a list of names and titles, with several strange symbols marking the back. Liang Yiyi didn't have the energy to think about what these symbols represented. Instead, he took out the high-definition camera he'd bought from Gui San and photographed each document, especially the list, which he'd specifically instructed the person to take care of. After completing this, Liang Yiyi put the documents back in their original place, closed the safe, and wiped every part he'd touched with a handkerchief. Then, after some thought, he decided to plant a bug under Ryouta Shinji's desk. After completing this, Liang Yiyi opened the window, then restored it to its original state once outside. After checking to see if there were any traces left, he jumped down from the third floor and left through the back.

Having spent considerable time in Ryouta Shinji's study, Liang Yiyi returned home past one in the morning, unable to sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about what to do with the items she'd obtained tonight. It was obvious that they should be handed over to Liang Jianjun immediately. Whether or not Liang Jianjun would be promoted immediately after handing them over to higher-ups was uncertain, but at the very least, it would be a significant accomplishment. The list clearly listed the names of two vice-provincial officials. Liang Yiyi suspected that Ryouta Shinji might be a spy sent to China by Japan, using the guise of a company to corrupt potentially exploitable officials. Apparently, they even had members within the military. Dismantling a spy ring was far more important than exposing her own capabilities. However, she feared her family would become suspicious. She couldn't explain the origins of these items, and this terrified her. She imagined the worst-case scenario: her family disowning her. This was something she'd never achieved in her previous life, even in her poverty. In this life, she finally had such a happy family, loving parents, pampered by her grandfather, and protected by her two older brothers. She truly didn't want to lose it all. But when she thought about Ryoda Shinji's intentions to harm Liang Wenyu, Liang Yiyi felt that as long as her family, who cared about her and loved her, were safe, then there seemed to be nothing she couldn't do. Having made up her mind, Liang Yiyi stopped thinking about it and fell asleep peacefully.
