Chapter 68 Before the Exam

After they returned from their mission, the atmosphere at the base had become somewhat subdued. Political Commissar Fu Guoqing knew he'd been feeling down the past couple of days, but there was nothing he could do about it. Two of their team members were still in the hospital! One had a thigh injury, the other a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but fortunately, neither was in life-threatening condition. The team members at the base were holding their breath, and their training had become even more intense over the past two days. Remembering the call he'd received yesterday, Fu Guoqing went to Wu Zhengliang's office.

In the office, Wu Zhengliang was writing something on the table. Seeing Fu Guoqing come in, he stopped writing and asked, "Is there something wrong, Political Commissar?"

"Zhengliang, have you decided who to take with you about what we talked about yesterday?" Yesterday, the leader informed us that several major military regions would be preparing to hold a special forces competition in three days. The leader decided to let Qilin participate as well. This competition not only includes individual competitions, but also a field confrontation of about seven days, so Fu Guoqing came specifically to ask Wu Zhengliang who he was going to take with him.

"It has been decided. I will give you the list later. I just happen to have something to discuss with you." Wu Zhengliang said.

"Oh, what's the matter? Tell me." Fu Guoqing sat in the chair in front of the desk, listening attentively.

Wu Zhengliang stood up and poured Fu Guoqing a cup of tea before saying, "Two members of the team were injured during this mission, and two veteran members applied to leave Qilin a while ago due to their age. This is normal. After all, the intensity of our training is unmatched by other similar units, and the difficulty of the missions is much higher than that of other special forces. The slightest mistake in physical condition could result in injury or even death. Furthermore, the team is currently short of technical personnel, so after this training, I plan to visit major military academies and grassroots units to select some younger but outstanding soldiers for early training. This idea just came to me suddenly, and my thoughts are still immature, so I'd like to hear your opinion."

Fu Guoqing is 35 years old this year, ten years older than Wu Zhengliang. The two have been partners for four years since Wu Zhengliang became the captain of Qilin, and they know each other quite well. He knows that the fact that Wu Zhengliang can bring up this matter in front of him means that Wu Zhengliang has had this idea for some time, and now he just needs someone to agree with his idea. After all, as the political commissar, he is only responsible for ideological work, and Wu Zhengliang is responsible for dealing with all kinds of situations encountered during the mission. No one knows the situation of the team members better than Wu Zhengliang.

"I think your idea is great. You can bring it up with our leader. If he has no objections, you can start implementing it. It's a good idea since the team members are relatively young and can serve two more years with Qilin. This way, we don't have to spend so much manpower and resources to train talented people, only to have them quit for various reasons before they even stay for two years."

Wu Zhengliang felt relieved when he saw that his political commissar also supported his idea. The matter of selecting new team members came to an end. Wu Zhengliang handed the list of ten people to be brought to the competition to Fu Guoqing, and then the two discussed the details of this competition. After all, no one wanted to lose this game.

On the training ground, the sun was shining brightly, casting a shimmering shadow on the trees. A dozen or so men were engaged in their respective training exercises, each covered in mud and sweat. No mission had ever been so frustrating, and two of their teammates were in the hospital, uncertain when they would recover. For the past two days, these men had been simmering with anger, training with ever-increasing relentlessness.

Wu Zhengliang made a gesture to these people to assemble, and more than a dozen people quickly ran over and lined up.

"Three days from now, the seven major military regions will hold a special forces competition. I'm going to take ten people with me. These ten people are Gu Dongwei, Lin Yang, Ma Jingchen, and Liu Jinzhou..."

All of you, get ready. We'll be leaving the day after tomorrow. The rest of you will stay at the base for training. Okay, dismiss, and continue your training!"

After Ma Jingchen and his companions were dismissed, they immediately continued their training without asking any detailed questions about the competition, as if they didn't care about this competition at all.

Relaxed days always pass quickly. Yesterday, Zhang Juan came to Liang Yiyi's house after school to tell her that she had to go to school to get her admission ticket today. The college entrance examination was in two days. After getting the admission ticket, she had to go to check the examination room to avoid having trouble finding her seat for the exam.

Dressed in a light yellow Dior floor-length dress and a pair of white diamond-studded sandals, Liang Yiyi, despite her self-proclaimed understated attire, attracted countless attention along the way, especially at school, where she was stared at countless times. Besides discussing her attire and appearance, some classmates were also discussing how she had dared to skip classes for two months before the Gaokao just because she did well on that one exam. Did she truly possess the talent or was she simply indifferent? Liang Yiyi didn't care about these discussions at all. Perhaps after today, many of these people here would never meet again in their lives. Who cared what they had to say?

At 8:00 sharp, Teacher Guo handed out admission tickets to each student. Luckily, her exam venue was within the school, while Zhang Juan was assigned to the Second High School venue. From the podium, Teacher Guo painstakingly instructed everyone on the exam, especially the importance of filling in their name and exam number first. She repeated this over and over again, even going so far as to explain what to add if they had guessed an answer. Liang Yiyi lamented how painstakingly their homeroom teacher had gone to such lengths.

After teaching for a whole class, the head teacher finally announced that school could be dismissed, because the students no longer had much interest in studying at this time. They still had to take time out to check out the examination venue today and tomorrow, so this could be considered as a way to give the students some time to relax and relieve stress.
