Chapter 26 Gao Lei as mentioned by Gao Yu

Gao Yu's words struck Xiaoyue like a thunderclap, leaving her utterly stunned.

Xiaoyue silently turned back to retrieve Gao Yu's bowl, and without lingering, ran to the shack.

Looking up and seeing Gao Lei's gloomy expression, he put down the firewood, pulled the rope, and turned his face away when he saw Xiao Yue.

Gao Lei pulled out the rope and wrapped it around his arm without even raising his head. Xiao Yue couldn't pretend she didn't see it, so she spoke up: "Gao Lei, you don't need to do this. I didn't ask you to chop firewood for me."

Enraged, Gao Lei slammed down the rope he was about to put away, glaring at Xiao Yue's face with wide eyes. Xiao Yue noticed that there were tears glistening in Gao Lei's eyes.

Xiaoyue felt she was still angry. How could he twist the truth and make it seem like it was all her fault?

Gao Lei was furious when he heard Xiao Yue's words. Tears streamed down his face as he said fiercely, "No need. I only chopped firewood for you because I was willing to pay for your house."

After saying that, he turned and left, ignoring Xiaoyue's muddled mind behind him.

It was already dark, and the people building the house had all left. Xiaoyue was still busy. First, she took out the Ganoderma lucidum and placed it on the mat in the shed. Then she went to the stove outside to boil water, took out the cornmeal she had made that morning, added some wild vegetables, and made vegetable dumplings.

Before going to sleep, Xiaoyue checked around again and found that all the traps were still intact. The food was ready, and Xiaoyue took a vegetable dumpling, added some salt to the pot, and sprinkled some wild vegetables.

Add a few fried dough sticks, and a bowl of soup is ready.

Just as we were about to eat, the little boy called out from the doorway, "Aunt Xiaoyue, Aunt Xiaoyue, my mother is dying."
