Xiaoyue saw Li Lei through the open door and the hazy snow, and quickly waved and called out to the person outside the door, "Li Lei, come here."
Li Lei had never been to Ge Sanlin's house before, and he hesitated when he entered. But upon hearing Xiaoyue's shout, he rushed to her side in a few strides.
Upon reaching the kitchen, Li Lei found Xiaoyue sitting on the floor. He quickly helped her up, and Xiaoyue pointed to the west room, so he helped her there.
The room smelled terrible, filled with the odor of medicine, foul smell, and musty smell of a fire that hadn't been lit for a long time. Li Lei rubbed his nose and stepped into the room. Inside, Lu Xiaomei was also coughing, her face a strange bluish-yellow.
His sparse, messy hair lay flat on his scalp, his cheeks were sunken, his eyes were lifeless, and his lips were bluish-purple. Li Lei turned his head away and stopped looking at Lu Xiaomei.
Li Lei helped Xiaoyue slowly approach the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), then lifted her arms and Xiaoyue sat steadily on the edge of the kang. Xiaoyue then shifted into a more comfortable position and asked Li Lei, "Can you lift Lu Xiaomei?"
Li Lei turned his head and looked Lu Xiaomei up and down, then nodded.
Xiaoyue then turned her gaze to Lu Xiaomei, who was coughing, and gently moved her hand next to Lu Xiaomei, looking at her and saying, "Lu Xiaomei, I'll have Li Lei carry you back to my house, do you agree?"
At this moment, Lu Xiaomei's ashen aura seemed to be revitalized, her eyes regained focus, and her thin head nodded.
Xiaoyue leaned close to Lu Xiaomei's ear again, "Is there anything valuable that you need me to pack for you?"
Lu Xiaomei gently shook her head.
After asking the question, Xiaoyue looked at Li Lei and said, "Wrap her in a blanket and take Lu Xiaomei back to our home first."
When Li Lei heard "our family," he paused for a moment, then without saying a word, he spread the blankets out over Lu Xiaomei.
Li Lei pulled back Lu Xiaomei's blanket, and a foul odor emanated from it. Li Lei dared not breathe and carried the thin-skinned Lu Xiaomei onto the blanket.
The undershirt and pants hadn't been washed in a long time; they were yellowed and smelled strongly. After putting Lu Xiaomei down, Li Lei quickly rolled up the blanket, covered her head and feet, and then carried her into the heavy snow.
Xiaoyue watched as Li Lei carried Lu Xiaomei out and sighed. If a person can't take care of themselves, it's better for them to be dead.
He tried to get off the kang (a heated brick bed), and after testing the ground with one foot, he found that he could still stand. So he carefully held onto the wall and slowly walked out of the west room.
Just then, Liang Qi ran in, covered in snow. Before he could brush it off, he picked up Xiaoyue and tried to go out. Xiaoyue stopped Liang Qi's hand and pointed to the east room, saying, "Those two people tried to poison Lu Xiaomei when I came in."
"My leg was beaten by Ge Sanlin." Pointing to the scattered stool parts in the kitchen, "It was beaten like this that I dare not move my leg."
Upon hearing this, Liang Qi immediately flew into a rage. He returned to the west room and gently placed Xiaoyue on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed). He then went to the kitchen, found a fire poker, and kicked open the door to the east room. There, Dalingzi was nestled in Ge Sanlin's arms, trembling and sobbing.
Upon seeing Liang Qi barge in, both of them looked up at the same time, with Da Lingzi wishing she could disappear into Ge Sanlin's stomach.
Liang Qi didn't care about any of that. He grabbed a stick and swung it at Ge Sanlin's legs. Liang Qi's idea was actually quite simple: if you hurt Xiaoyue's legs, then I'll hurt yours too.
Having encountered Liang Qi, Ge Sanlin was left with no choice but to take the beating; there was no escaping it. After Da Lingzi received two blows, she broke free from Ge Sanlin's embrace, while Ge Sanlin rolled onto the kang (a heated brick bed).
But he couldn't dodge it. The stick kept hitting him, each blow landing on his calves, until blood seeped through his thick trousers. Only then did he throw down the stick: "What happened to your brother's things? If you do it again, your things will be gone soon too."
Liang Qi made a threat, threw down the burning stick, put on a calm expression, went to the west room, picked up Xiaoyue, and walked into the swirling snow.
When Xiaoyue arrived at her home, she found unfinished pieces of cloth scattered haphazardly on the kang (a heated brick bed) in the west room. Li Qianqian was cutting clothes on the kang in the west room, using measurements from Manager Ning, so she dared not touch them.
Li Lei waited for Xiaoyue at the door with Lu Xiaomei in his arms. Xiaoyue looked at the situation in the west room and immediately decided: "Move everyone to the east room. The west room will be used specifically for making clothes from now on."
Little Douding was sleeping. Li Lei put Lu Xiaomei on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), and Liang Qi held Xiaoyue and let her sit on the edge of the kang in the east room.
They then cut open Xiaoyue's pants with scissors and found that her entire left calf was swollen and shiny, with tiny wood chips stuck in it.
Liang Qi tended to Xiao Yue's wounds, but Xiao Yue ignored her own injuries and hurriedly asked Li Lei to find Doctor Hu.
After making the arrangements, Xiaoyue sighed and said to Liang Qi, "What should we do if Ge Sanlin refuses to give Lu Xiaomei the divorce papers?"
Liang Qi squatted down to clean Xiaoyue's wounds, looked up at Xiaoyue and smiled: "This is not your concern. If Ge Sanlin does not give Lu Xiaomei a divorce agreement, will he marry Da Lingzi as his concubine?"
Ge Sanlin wanted to, but Da Lingzi definitely wouldn't agree. If you cured Lu Xiaomei's illness, their plans would fall through.
"Planning?"
"Yes, that's why you were able to witness them feeding Lu Xiaomei poison. They didn't want to divorce her and even wanted Lu Xiaomei to make room for Da Lingzi. The two of them were so desperate that they took the risk of feeding Lu Xiaomei poison."
"Could it be?" Xiaoyue thought of something, but she didn't dare to say it out loud.
"Who knows?" Liang Qi finished cleaning Xiaoyue's wound, and Xiaoyue got off the kang (a heated brick bed) again, feeling less pain.
She said to Liang Qi, "Could you go out for a bit? I need to change my pants. What do the women of Shiwei wear their pants on the outside?" Xiaoyue suddenly remembered and asked, looking at the pants under her ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress).
