Ignoring Xiaoyue's dark and gloomy face, Ge Erping interjected with a gloating remark: "The groom is getting married, but unfortunately the bride isn't you, the bride isn't you!" He then burst into laughter, disregarding the pain in his face, feeling more exhilarated than ever before.
Xiaoyue glanced disdainfully at Ge Erping, then turned her gaze to Bai Hongmei, scrutinizing her from head to toe. Bai Hongmei was indeed prettier than herself, with a slender, tall figure and skin as white and delicate as egg white even in the cold weather. She had alluring peach blossom eyes and an oval face.
Xiaoyue found the woman, a classic beauty, increasingly irritating, and repeated, "You~get~away~from~me."
Seeing Xiaoyue's reddened eyes and having witnessed Xiaoyue hitting Ge Erping, Bai Hongmei turned around and quietly pulled Ge Erping up, whispering, "Shall we go?"
Ge Erping came to Xiaoyue's house just to cause trouble, especially since Xiaoyue had hit her; he was eager to make a big scene! "Have you forgotten why you came here? Xiaoyue and Liang Qi are always seen together..."
Liang Qi leaves Xiaoyue's house before it's completely dark every day, and arrives before dawn. Don't you want to ask them what's going on?
Ge Erping deliberately portrayed Xiaoyue as an unfaithful woman, and Xiaoyue glanced at Ge Erping with her eyes.
She said coldly, "Yes, he came here early in the morning and worked late at night, so what?" Xiaoyue stared intently at Ge Erping, who was standing behind Bai Hongmei and stuck his head out to give Xiaoyue the middle finger.
Xiaoyue clenched her fists, jumped off the kang (a heated brick bed), and said, "If you don't leave, I'm going to hit you."
Bai Hongmei took a step back in fright, looked back at Ge Erping, and still looked a little afraid of Xiaoyue.
Ge Erping comforted Bai Hongmei, saying, "Liang Qi is very powerful; Xiaoyue wouldn't dare to touch you."
Encouraged by Ge Erping, Bai Hongmei carefully took another step forward and walked up to Xiaoyue. She said seriously, "You are not allowed to seduce Liang Qi anymore. We are going to get married. Also, you must stay ten meters away from Liang Qi."
The soft, gurgling sound made Xiaoyue feel as if she had swallowed a fly—unable to swallow it down or spit it out.
Xiaoyue looked at the timid beauty and couldn't bear to do it, but the words that came out of that beauty's mouth were truly disgusting.
"Get out!" Xiaoyue finally roared.
After shouting, Xiaoyue grabbed the broom used for sweeping the kang (a heated brick bed) and started swiping it at Bai Hongmei and Ge Erping.
Because of the thick winter clothes, Xiaoyue couldn't hurt the two of them at all. They were just scared and ran outside in a hurry. Ge Erping was behind Bai Hongmei, so he ran faster than Bai Hongmei.
Bai Hongmei wasn't good at fighting. Even though Ge Erping had already run out of the house, Bai Hongmei was still running with her cloak in her hand. Xiaoyue was furious when she saw this and kicked Bai Hongmei outside. A black foot was clearly visible on the white, fluffy cloak.
As soon as they got outside, they saw Liang Qi standing alone in the yard, his figure desolate. He was wearing Uncle Liang's dog-skin coat. After Xiaoyue saw Liang Qi standing in the yard, she kicked the woman out and then closed the door behind her.
Bai Hongmei nestled in Liang Qi's arms and began to sob softly.
After waiting for a while and seeing that Xiaoyue was not going to come out, Liang Qi took Bai Hongmei's hand and led her out of the courtyard.
After leaving the courtyard, Ge Erping saw Liang Qi and slunk away.
When leaving the courtyard, Liang Qi thoughtfully closed the gate.
Xiaoyue peeked through the crack in the door and saw Liang Qi holding Bai Hongmei's hand. A pang of pain shot through her heart as she recalled the scenes of the two of them shoveling snow together, lying in the yard, and having a snowball fight. Scene after scene flashed through her mind. Xiaoyue leaned against the door and slowly squatted down, tears streaming down her face.
After a long time, the little boy stood outside the door, calling Xiaoyue's name.
Xiaoyue wiped her face, pushed open the door, returned to the west room, and began weaving.
...
The day quickly passed, and on the afternoon of the seventeenth day of the twelfth lunar month, Yan Wen, the eldest brother of the Yan family, along with four strong men, drove a mule cart to deliver six boxes to Old Man Ge's house. The cart stopped in Old Man Ge's yard.
They placed all six boxes on the floor of the west wing. Little Sun came over and lit a fire in the stove in the west wing. The four people then settled down in the west wing, and their meals were also cooked there.
The four of them brought roast chicken, pork head meat, and peanuts. Little Sun also cooked two more dishes and put them on the table.
The man named Fatty Zhu, who was sitting at the end of the kang (a heated brick bed), came to the six chests, opened one of them with a key, took out a jar of wine, and called to Little Sun to heat it up.
Little Sun took the jar from Fatty Zhu's hand with her head bowed. Fatty Zhu casually touched Little Sun, and Little Sun blushed. She quickly lowered her head and went to the kitchen, took out a large basin, scooped out hot water from the pot, and then put the wine jar into the hot water.
Fat Zhu tore off a chicken leg and came into the kitchen. He handed the chicken leg to Little Sun, picked up the wine jar, and touched Little Sun's somewhat thin face.
Little Sun still didn't react, so Fat Zhu took out a jar of wine from the box and shouted loudly at Little Sun, "Hey woman, come in here and heat up this wine for me."
The man next to him with a mole on his left cheek said, "Fatty Zhu, drink less. We're here on a mission. If the box gets lost, we'll all be in trouble."
Fat Zhu laughed nonchalantly, "It's nothing, just two jars of wine."
Little Sun went to Fatty Zhu again, and this time Fatty Zhu became arrogant again, pinching Little Sun's buttocks with his big hand. Little Sun didn't resist, and obediently carried the wine jar to the kitchen.
