Chapter 18 You're such a fool

Uncle Liang and Xiaoyue quickly arrived at their doorstep. The man was still huddled at the gate. Uncle Liang turned him over and was immediately shocked. Xiaoyue saw that Uncle Liang was so frightened that she pulled her hand back. But in just a moment, Uncle Liang calmly asked Xiaoyue to help him lift him onto the oxcart.

Despite his slender frame, the man was surprisingly heavy, and Xiaoyue nearly dropped him.

Stay home. Don't tell anyone about what happened today.

Xiaoyue agreed.

The next day, Xiaoyue packed her basket, placing each Ganoderma lucidum mushroom on a large leaf she had picked the day before, and put them all into the basket.

Then he put a sickle in the basket, just in case.

I filled the gourd jar with water, and since there was no breakfast to eat, I didn't eat.

Xiaoyue stepped out of the doorless house. It was still dark. She carried a basket on her back and walked along the village road, heading towards Hejia Town. In her previous life, Xiaoyue had never been to a town. She was always busy working for the Ge family and hadn't been there even after Ge Sanlin returned.

In this life, Xiaoyue plans to live a different way. Now that she has broken away from the Ge family, Xiaoyue is thinking about how to pack up her home as she walks.

The sun rose quickly, and Xiaoyue had already crossed the no-man's-land. She was walking with her head down when she suddenly heard someone call her from behind.

Xiaoyue looked back and saw that it was Yun Xingfei and Yun San riding over.

Yun Xingfei sat on the horse, leisurely shaking the reins, his legs swaying back and forth on the saddle. The reddish-brown horse was obedient, swaying steadily, making it easy for its owner to flirt with the girl. Yun Xingfei leaned his head towards Xiaoyue and said in a teasing voice, "Come on, let's ride together."

Xiaoyue rolled her eyes at the man behind her, waved her hand, then gripped the strap tightly and quickened her pace, making it clear that she didn't want to travel with them.

Seeing that Xiaoyue had quickened her pace, Yun Xingfei lightly jumped off the red-brown horse, put the reins on its back, and waved to Yun San, signaling him to go first.

He then followed behind Xiaoyue and said, "I'll go with you too." Xiaoyue heard the light footsteps and glanced at a white robe embroidered with a cluster of green bamboo.

Thinking to himself how arrogant this person was, he didn't want to pay any attention to him and walked away on his own.

"What are you going to town for?" Yun Xingfei ran ahead of Xiaoyue and reached out to stop her. Xiaoyue frowned slightly, gripped the straps on her basket, and easily slipped under his arm.

She didn't even look at him, her face clearly showing reluctance and rejection. She gripped the straps of the basket tightly, quickening her pace until beads of sweat appeared on her face.

Yun Xingfei, however, was all smiles. He walked over shamelessly with his hands behind his back, his steps gradually leaning towards Xiaoyue, deliberately tugging at Xiaoyue's basket.

Xiaoyue fell backward due to inertia. Yun Xingfei caught her in the basket. Xiaoyue turned around, her eyes showing impatience. Her face was flushed with anger, and glistening beads of sweat fell onto Yun Xingfei's long, gourd-shaped knuckles, bounced, and slid to the ground. Yun Xingfei glanced at her with pity, then smiled teasingly.

Finally unable to withstand Yun Xingfei's persistent pestering, Xiaoyue gripped the straps tightly and said in a hoarse voice, "It's Ganoderma lucidum. I picked it from Da Ma Hu's head."

Yun Xingfei was a head taller than Xiaoyue and was standing right behind her. He craned his neck to look into Xiaoyue's basket, then stretched out his slender hand and pinched the large leaf covering the Ganoderma lucidum with his index finger and thumb. Seeing that the Ganoderma lucidum was covered with a layer of spore powder, his eyes lit up and the corners of his lips curled up slightly. He thought to himself, "What incredible luck this girl has struck!" But he said, "This is good stuff."

Upon hearing that even the young master of the Yun family said it was a good thing, Xiaoyue's expression brightened.

With a smile on her lips and a better complexion, she loosened her grip on the straps and her steps became lighter. She glanced at Yun Xingfei out of the corner of her eye before walking normally again, and said happily, "I also think it's a good product. How much does it cost per pound at the market?" Xiaoyue asked tentatively, a little nervously.

Hearing this, Yun Xingfei laughed heartily, then gently tugged at Xiaoyue until they were walking side by side. He tapped Xiaoyue's forehead with his long, slender index finger, then took out a handkerchief to wipe his hands with a look of disgust. He then said in a lighthearted tone, "You're such a silly goose. You can't buy this at the market. Do you think this is a mushroom stall?"

Xiaoyue was startled by Yun Xingfei's words. She saw him take out a handkerchief to wipe the finger that had touched her forehead, and she felt angry. It wasn't Xiaoyue who had let him touch her, but she also felt that it was wrong of her to think that way.

So Xiaoyue carefully approached Yun Xingfei, raised her right foot, and kicked him when he wasn't paying attention. Her footprint was very conspicuous on the pale white long robe. Xiaoyue gripped the basket tightly, struggled with her legs, and ran a few steps before Yun Xingfei grabbed her.

Xiaoyue looked up and met Yun Xingfei's gaze. He was bending down, looking at her with a bright smile. His face, a blend of masculinity and femininity, was full of sunshine and a touch of mischief. His bright, almond-shaped eyes narrowed into slits as he smiled, and his full lips revealed two small tiger teeth. Xiaoyue's heart skipped a beat for no reason.

Xiaoyue hurriedly broke free from Yun Xingfei and took a few quick steps. Her hand unconsciously touched her face. Xiaoyue thought to herself that it was a good thing she was dark-skinned, otherwise she would have been terribly embarrassed.

The person Yun Xingfei was supporting suddenly walked away, and he felt his hand loosen, and his heart felt empty. Perhaps he didn't realize that something was wrong with him. He stepped forward and stood next to Xiaoyue, saying, "Such good Ganoderma lucidum should be sold in a pharmacy. I have plenty of time, so I'll take you there."

Xiaoyue, feeling guilty, hurriedly shook her head and waved her hands, saying, "No need, no need, I know what you mean."

Seeing Xiaoyue avoiding him like the plague, Yun Xingfei was furious. He turned around, flicked his hem, grabbed the reins, leaped onto his horse, and angrily rode away.

Xiaoyue secretly took a breath, took out the gourd from her basket, drank some water, and continued walking with her head down. More and more pedestrians were walking ahead of her.

Xiaoyue tightened the basket on her shoulder and followed behind the others at a leisurely pace.

"We're here! We've finally arrived!" a woman who looked about the same age as Xiaoyue exclaimed excitedly.

Xiaoyue looked up when she heard this. There were long queues of people at the entrance of Hejia Town, including oxcarts and horse-drawn carriages. They had to pay a certain number of copper coins to the soldiers before they were allowed to enter the town.

Xiaoyue was also in the middle of the line when she noticed that some people needed to pay money while others did not.

Xiaoyue asked the older man behind her, "Why do some people need to pay money while others don't?"

The older brother behind her was carrying a bundle of firewood, apparently going into town to sell it. He was an honest man and told Xiaoyue, "It's free to enter town if you're alone, but if there are more than three people, you need to pay one coin."

When it was Xiaoyue's turn, the soldier only glanced at Xiaoyue's basket before waving her away and letting her into the town.

Upon entering Hejia Town, Xiaoyue, carrying a basket on her back, began searching for Tonghe Medical Clinic.
