Before it got dark, Xiaoyue went up the mountain to cut some branches, carried them back, and made a chicken coop for the chickens and a gentle staircase for the ducks and geese. Then she laid a wooden plank on the staircase. She also made a small garden for the chickens, ducks, and geese in the east yard, near the fence.
After everything was tidied up, it gradually got dark. Xiaoyue selected three kinds of mushrooms: matsutake, beef tripe, and morel. She carefully washed them, called Lu Xiaomei to cook the dishes, and Xiaodouding to tend the fire.
Xiaoyue took the carrying pole again, carrying two empty wooden buckets, and went to the village's big well to fill the water tank in the kitchen.
Lu Xiaomei steamed rice for five people. Xiaoyue told Lu Xiaomei about the Yun family, but Lu Xiaomei didn't say anything. She just did what she was supposed to do to reassure Xiaoyue.
After tidying up, Lu Xiaomei pulled Xiaoyue into the house and took out a set of clothes that she had made. Xiaoyue looked at Lu Xiaomei and asked cautiously, "Is this for me?"
Lu Xiaomei had never seen Xiaoyue like this before. Thinking that Xiaoyue was also a younger sister with vulnerable spots, she quickly picked up the top and held it up against Xiaoyue, urging her to try it on.
Xiaoyue looked at the dress with obvious delight, stroking it and holding it up against herself. Lu Xiaomei held up the dress; it was white with red flowers, and looked very simple and elegant. Xiaoyue hesitated, glancing at Lu Xiaomei.

The two were chatting enthusiastically when they heard Ge Daming enter the courtyard and call out at the main gate, "Third Sister-in-law, Grandpa wants to see you!"
