Chapter 120 Scooter in Production

Du Chen went into the office to draw a sketch, while Comrade Lao Du led two apprentices to remove the wheels.

"Xiao Li, how did you sleep last night?"

Comrade Lao Du watched the two apprentices dismantling the wheels. He had nothing to do, so he asked Xiao Li.

"Yes, the repair shop is big enough, and it's not stuffy at night. It's not that I'm worried about the two children being left alone, but it's actually nice to let them stay in the repair shop."

"Let's try it. Oh, and I need to find a bunk bed today so I can bring it back to the shop tonight. Otherwise, I'll have to sleep in the repair shop at night."

Comrade Lao Du slapped his head and suddenly remembered that the store had not yet cleaned up for the two apprentices.

"No rush, clean it up if you can, otherwise just sleep in the repair shop tonight."

Xiao Li doesn't care.

While the two were talking, a young man came to the door of the repair shop.

"Hello, does Liu Zhenzhong work here?"

"Lao Liu, someone is looking for you!"

Comrade Lao Du looked back at Liu Zhenzhong who was busy and shouted.

“Here I come!”

Liu Zhenzhong responded and walked out.

"Dongliang, it's you!"

Liu Zhenzhong said happily as he looked at Wang Dongliang standing at the door.

"Director, this is my former apprentice. He told you yesterday afternoon when he came back that he would come over to try out the job today."

"Oh, you are the pillar that Lao Liu was talking about!"

Lao Liu's skills are beyond reproach, so Comrade Lao Du is also looking forward to seeing how good the skills of Lao Liu's apprentice are.

"Hello, Director Du!"

Like Lao Liu, Wang Dongliang is also a slow-witted person. After saying hello, he didn't know what to say.

"Hello, Dongliang, I heard from Lao Liu that your skills are quite good. Since you're not busy today, why don't you give it a try?"

Comrade Lao Du saw that Wang Dongliang was not good at expressing himself, so he had to speak first.

"Okay, okay, Director, I came here today just to give it a try."

Meanwhile, Du Chen finally finished drawing up the blueprint in his office. It was simple, just roughly marking out the required parts.

"Dad, I've finished drawing the blueprint here."

Du Chen shouted to Comrade Lao Du while holding the blueprint.

"Really? Let me see it. I'll try to get it done for you today!"

Comrade Lao Du took the drawing and understood what Du Chen wanted to do at a glance.

"It's just a board with two wheels! I thought it was something else."

Comrade Lao Du understood what Du Chen was trying to do and thought it was quite childish.

Wang Dongliang also took a look at it and found that this thing was quite simple.

"Why, Dongliang, can you do it?"

Comrade Lao Du saw Wang Dongliang's actions and asked a question.

"Okay, I don't think it's difficult. I think I'll make this thing. I can probably finish it in about half an hour."

Wang Dongliang took the initiative to offer to make this scooter. Although it is small, it can well demonstrate his craftsmanship.

"Okay, Dongliang, then you can make this scooter first. If you need any tools, just ask Lao Liu and he will find them for you."

Comrade Lao Du gave Wang Dongliang some instructions and then went back to his own work.

Comrade Lao Du also started out as a repairman. He knew that repairmen don't like others watching them while they work. They will feel restrained when someone is watching them. What could be a very enjoyable thing may not be done well if someone is watching them.

Wang Dongliang was relieved when he heard this. He was really afraid that Comrade Lao Du would keep watching him while he was working. He was an introvert by nature, and if someone kept watching him, he might not be able to do his job well, just as Comrade Lao Du thought.

"Uncle, look, these are the parts I found, and these two small wheels. Let me make it with you."

Du Chen looked at Wang Dongliang and spoke directly to him.

"Okay, then you can help me."

When Wang Dongliang saw that Du Chen was such a small kid, he didn't care. He thought that such a small kid would not put pressure on him.

Liu Zhenzhong watched from the side and was worried for Wang Dongliang. Wang Dongliang didn't know Du Chen, but he knew him very well and knew how much say Du Chen had in front of Comrade Lao Du.

Wang Dongliang looked at the drawing carefully again, got a clear idea in his mind, picked up a small steel plate on the ground and started to gesture.

"Your name is Chenchen, right?"

Wang Dongliang asked Du Chen first.

"Yes, uncle, you can just call me Chenchen."

"Chenchen, how big are you going to make this thing?"

Wang Dongliang asked Du Chen that he planned to make the pedals of the scooter first, so he asked Du Chen to confirm the size first.

Upon hearing this, Du Chen gestured to Wang Dongliang to show the size. Wang Dongliang also understood that this was a toy for children of Du Chen's age. He also had an idea in his mind and knew how big the scooter should be.

Wang Dongliang found the angle grinder and, without marking it, began cutting the thin steel plate. Du Chen immediately stepped away, and amidst the flying sparks, a pedal took shape in Wang Dongliang's hands.

Du Chen took a look at the finished pedal and found that Wang Dongliang's craftsmanship was good. Although there were no marks, the cut pedal was symmetrical on both sides, the size was right, and there seemed to be no flaws.

Wang Dongliang twisted the thin steel plate hard and found that it was still a little soft.

"Chenchen, do you know where I can find some thin steel pipes?"

Du Chen also realized that Wang Dongliang wanted to reinforce the thin steel plate, so he led Wang Dongliang to the old parts to rummage through them.

The two searched among the old accessories, but did not find the thin steel pipe. Instead, they found a thinner steel bar.

"Chenchen, no need to look for it, this one will do."

Wang Dongliang held up the steel bar in his hand and said to Du Chen.

The two men continued to return to where they had just worked. Wang Dongliang used an angle grinder to cut the steel bars into appropriate sizes, and took the thin steel plates and steel bars to the second welding machine.

After a series of operations, Wang Dongliang welded the steel bars to the steel plate, tried it with his hands, and nodded with satisfaction.

Next, Wang Dongliang used the remaining steel bars to weld the two wheels to the steel plate, and a simple skateboard with two wheels was basically formed.

Then, Comrade Lao Du found a section of hollow iron pipe for the two of them. Wang Dongliang also personally welded the hollow iron pipe into a T-shaped handle. He gestured to Du Chen, determined the height of the handle, and finally welded the handle to the semi-finished product.

Du Chen stared at the finished product with satisfaction. He had to admit that Wang Dongliang's craftsmanship was quite good. Du Chen tried out the skateboard in the workshop and found it very exciting.

It was originally made for Gu Yue to play with, but Du Chen became quite addicted to it.

"Chenchen, how do you feel?"

Wang Dongliang watched Du Chen skateboarding and asked Du Chen who was happy.

"Uncle, it's fun and feels good."

Du Chen gave Wang Dongliang a thumbs up.
