Chapter 25 Renovation and Purchase

Comrade Lao Du saw that Lao Zhang really had no idea, so they chatted for a while and then Lao Du said goodbye and left. His time was still quite tight, so he had to take advantage of the time to clean up the store quickly. As for the decoration, he just needed to do a simple one and keep it clean and tidy.

After agreeing to have a drink at the grand opening, Du Chen's parents grabbed the keys and headed straight for the shop. They arrived a short while later, opening the door to a messy mess. Aside from the cleaner, previously rented room, the remaining two rooms were covered in dust. Before arriving, they'd brought brooms and rags from home. After a quick look inside, they picked up their tools and began cleaning.

Soon, the two of them cleared out the clutter in the room and dumped it in the trash can at the school gate. Du Chen's father glanced at his watch and found that it was already past eleven o'clock in the afternoon. So he said to Du Chen's mother, "Wife, it's noon. Should we buy something ready-made or go back to cook?"

"I'll go back and do it. I don't know how much it will cost to purchase goods for the store, so let's save as much as we can. You can clean here first. You can finish it around 12 o'clock and go home for dinner." Du Chen's mother replied.

"Okay, then you go back and cook. I'll clean up here first and come back later."

Soon, it was time to get out of school at noon. Du Chen followed the group out of the school gate. He habitually looked at the shop opposite and found that it was open.

Du Chen quickly walked across the street, looked inside the store, and found that his father was cleaning inside.

"Dad, have you rented it? Where's my mom?" Du Chen asked his father in surprise.

"Well, I just rented it this morning. Your mother just went back to cook. Should I clean up here first?"

"Oh, then I'll clean up with you first and then go back together later. I guess Mom isn't done yet."

As he spoke, Du Chen picked up the duster and dusted the wall.

"Dad, how are you going to decorate it?" Du Chen asked while working.

"Clean it up. Just scrape the wall with white paint, and then write a shop on the outside wall with paint. What else can you do?" Du Chen's father replied.

"Dad, here's what I think. I'll paint the walls of the house white as you said, but I'll just put in a few more sets of light tubes and use them occasionally to brighten up the room. Also, I'll re-plaster the floor with cement. Look at the bumpy floor. It's so ugly, and it won't cost much." Du Chen had already figured out how to do it. He just wanted it to be clean and tidy. The small shop he was standing in was a mess, and he wouldn't even notice if something was missing or lost.

Du Chen's father thought about it and felt it was okay.

"Dad, there's also the signboard. It's so tacky to write words outside the store. Let's make a signboard that's more elegant and beautiful." Du Chen continued.

"Make a sign? How do we do it? It will cost a lot of money, right?" Du Chen's father hesitated when he heard this. He had seen some big stores in the city put up signs on their doors. They looked nice, but they were probably not cheap.

"Dad, listen to me, it's not expensive! Don't you have a lot of scrap steel bars and pipes in your automotive class?"

"Well, quite a lot. Some of the double-row seats in the company need to be modified, so there are quite a lot of leftover steel bars and pipes. They are of no use and are usually sold as scrap." Du Chen's father replied.

"Well, the leftover materials are useless anyway, so we can use them to weld a frame and screw wooden boards on the frame. Your company also has paint, so we can paint the wooden boards and write words on them. That will be great. We don't have to worry about the wooden boards rotting after painting. At most, we can buy some wooden boards, which won't cost much. Then we can put them up at the door." As he said that, Du Chen pulled his father outside the store and pointed to the top of the door.

"It makes sense to hear what you said. There are quite a few units of wooden boards. They are all purchased wooden boxes. We can just take them apart and put them together to make a big board. It's just that some of the boards are not good and need to be cut and polished. It just takes some time." Du Chen's father touched his chin and said.

"Dad, Chenchen, what are you looking at?"

The two were looking up at the roof when they heard someone talking behind them. It turned out that Du Bin had just finished school and was passing by the elementary school gate when he saw his father and brother looking up at something.

"It's okay. Your brother and I were thinking of making a sign. Let's go home and have dinner together. Your mom probably has already prepared it." Du Chen's father said to Du Bin who was looking around the house.

"Hey, why did you three come back together?"

"I was in the store. The two brothers happened to be passing by after school, so we came back together." Comrade Lao Du replied while washing his hands.

"Then let's eat quickly. After dinner, you can take a rest and I will go over to continue cleaning." Du Chen's mother said.

"It's okay, Mom, let's go together. I'm not sleepy either. What do you think, brother?"

"That's right, Mom. I couldn't sleep at home thinking about this. Why don't you go over and help clean together? It will be faster." Du Bin said.

"If you don't take a nap at noon, I'm afraid you'll fall asleep in school this afternoon." Du Chen's mother could tolerate everything else, but she couldn't tolerate her children not studying hard. The two brothers had rarely been beaten for other things, but for academic issues, Du Chen and his brother had been beaten a lot in their previous life.

"Okay, let them all go. Do you think they can fall asleep at home if they don't go? It's better for them to go together. Otherwise, they will be worried and have no concentration on classes in the afternoon." Du Chen's father stopped his wife who wanted to continue talking and analyzed the matter to Du Chen's mother.

"Dad, you still understand us!" Du Bin echoed.

"Okay, okay, go ahead, but you have to pay attention in class this afternoon. The midterm exam is coming soon. If anyone doesn't do well on the test, we'll settle the score!" Du Chen's mother threatened the two brothers.
