"So it's her."
"What's the matter? From your tone, you seem not very familiar with your classmates?" Du Chen's mother asked in surprise.
"It's okay, but I haven't said much."
"No, son, what do you do at school every day? Why don't you know any of your classmates? Besides, the shop has been open for about half a month, and only Liu Yi comes to see you more often. I haven't really noticed the other classmates. It seems like they just say hello when they come over, right? Who do you usually hang out with?"
When Du Chen's mother heard this, she knew that Du Chen was not familiar with the other person.
"What? Go to school and attend classes. After class, do homework and go to the bathroom. What else can you do when you get home from school?" Du Chen knew what his mother meant, but he didn't want to answer.
"Son, going to school isn't just about studying. You also have to make friends. Look, you usually only play with Xiaoguang and Zhiqiang, and now there's Liu Yi. But you still don't have many friends."
Du Chen's mother suddenly began to worry. Her child was so sensible, and she was worried. Compared to other children, her child seemed a little strange, too unsociable, wasn't he?
"Mom, friends are more about quality than quantity. Besides, I have to look after the store with you and write stories when I have nothing to do. I don't have that much time."
Du Chen couldn't really tell his mother what he was thinking. Was it too childish to tell his parents those children? The problem was that Du Chen himself was also that child now.
"Son, listen to me. Spend more time with your classmates and go out to play more often. I can handle everything in the store by myself, so I don't need your help..."
Before his mother could finish speaking, Du Chen interrupted her helplessly.
"Okay, Mom, I get it. I'll definitely play with other kids more, okay? But there's really nothing to play with. It's more interesting to read a book..."
"Oh, please stop reading. You've become such a nerd."
"Mom, have you ever seen a nerd as smart as me?" Du Chen asked helplessly.
"Okay, I won't say anything more about you, but you have to remember what I said. Find some friends to hang out with more often, and don't just read the same few books every day."
During dinner in the evening, Comrade Lao Du asked his wife what happened at the parent-teacher meeting today.
Du Chen's mother happily described the parent-teacher meeting to Comrade Lao Du in great detail. She only briefly talked about it with Du Chen in the afternoon, but during dinner, she wanted to recreate the scene for Comrade Lao Du.
"Teacher Wu praised our Du Chen for being obedient and sensible, learning to write on his own, caring for his classmates, and studying hard..."
Du Chen blushed a little as he listened, saying that a lot of what Old Wu said didn't match his own opinion at all.
However, good students and teachers all have an aura of protection.
Du Bin was a little nervous. He was worried about what the teacher would say to his mother at the parent-teacher meeting tomorrow. If she criticized him, he would be in trouble because of the comparison with his younger brother.
So Du Bin tried hard to recall whether he had made any mistakes recently while eating, hoping that the teacher didn't have any evidence against him.
"Wife, you've talked so much, but you still haven't told me what place our son got in the exam." Comrade Lao Du looked at his wife who was getting more and more angry, and had to interrupt her.
"He's number one in the grade, but there are two others who are number one, and one of them is a girl in my son's class."
"Son, you did well on the test! Keep up the hard work and try to surpass everyone who tied with you next time."
Comrade Lao Du encouraged Du Chen. Actually, he didn't care about the other two who tied for first place. He said this because he was afraid that Du Chen would become proud, and hoped that he could set a goal for himself.
"I guess it's not easy to surpass them. After all, there are only two subjects." Du Chen said to his father helplessly.
There are no items that drag down the scores in these two subjects.
"Du Bin, what about you? What place did you get in the exam this time?"
Comrade Lao Du asked his eldest son again.
"Dad, it hasn't been announced yet. I guess they'll talk about it at the parents' meeting tomorrow."
"So what do you think? Are you confident?"
"I looked at the grades of my classmates around me and asked about Ding Miaomiao's grades. I think they are okay. There is a gap of more than 30 points between me and Ding Miaomiao." Du Bin replied.
"A difference of more than 30 points is not a small number, right?" Du Chen's mother was a little dissatisfied.
"Mom, here are the grades for six subjects. One of them scored a little over five points. Ding Miaomiao is usually in the top ten in her grade. It turns out I'm about fifty points behind her."
Du Bin quickly explained to his mother that if he didn't explain clearly he would probably be scolded.
"It's okay if you think about it this way! But wait for the parent-teacher meeting tomorrow. If the teacher complains to me, you'd better be careful." Du Chen's mother gave Du Bin a heads-up in advance.
"That's good, isn't that a lot of progress? Besides, Du Bin has been studying very hard lately, and he doesn't come to us to complain all the time like other parents used to. It shows that the eldest child has grown up..."
Comrade Lao Du looked at Du Bin's recent performance and said something good for him.
"Look, you're always there to support me when I'm taking care of the kids. I'm just warning him, otherwise you'll take care of the kids from now on."
Du Chen stood aside quietly, just like before. His mother would not give in when it came to his and his brother's study problems. However, he and his brother had disappointed their mother in the past and failed to fulfill her dream.
Comrade Lao Du saw that his wife was unhappy and immediately apologized. Du Chen was very happy to see the lively atmosphere. His parents had been like this all their lives, often arguing, but they had a good relationship and supported each other all their lives. It was a pity that his father passed away a little too early, but fortunately he could start over again.
The next morning, Du Chen slept in for a rare time. When he woke up, his parents were not at home. He guessed that they had gone to the store.
