"Hey, Mom, Chenchen, what's wrong with you? Why do you look so ugly?"
Du Bin asked hurriedly when he saw his mother and brother looking gloomy.
"Son, it's okay..."
"Brother, the master is coming."
Before Du Chen's mother finished speaking, Du Chen spoke directly and told the reason.
"What? He's coming over? Why is he coming over?!"
Du Bin was also unhappy when he heard the old man coming.
There were other reasons why Du Bin was dissatisfied with the old man.
At that time, Comrade Du was still in the army, Du Bin and his mother were still in their rural hometown, and Du Chen was not yet born. The uncle's two sons were both older than Du Bin, and Du Bin was bullied by his two cousins every day.
Every time Comrade Du Bin came home from a visit, he would bring back delicious and fun things, but they would always be snatched away by his two cousins. Children fight, of course, but Du Bin fought with his cousins more often than with any other child.
What's more, Du Bin was alone with his two cousins, and in his hometown village, he was often beaten. What made Du Bin most angry was that after every fight, Du Bin's aunt would hang around outside their yard, complaining about people bullying her children again.
At the time, Du Chen's grandfather was still alive, but he didn't say anything about his unreasonable daughter-in-law, so Du Bin, his own grandson, wasn't particularly close to his grandfather. Du Chen, on the other hand, was even less so. His grandfather had passed away just over a year before he was born, so Du Chen had never met his grandfather.
"Who knows what he's here for, but it's definitely not good. And his boss is here too."
Du Chen directly used "he" instead of "uncle" because he really didn't want to call that "uncle".
"Where's Dad? Is he back?"
As soon as Du Bin asked, he heard someone talking in the room.
"I came to your house and you really don't take me seriously, do you? You left without saying a word! Are you avoiding me?"
"No, brother, a colleague just wanted to talk to me about something, so I came back quickly without saying a word."
"Humph, what could possibly happen after get off work at noon? I think you're just avoiding me! And you're just smoking a broken cigarette!"
Uncle Du Chen's tone became increasingly unhappy, and Comrade Lao Du kept apologizing to his brother.
"Fuck, what the hell!"
Du Bin's head was buzzing when he heard this outside, and he wanted to chop the so-called old man into pieces with a knife.
Du Chen also had a gloomy face and flickering eyes, thinking to himself that there was no way to resolve the situation today.
Du Chen's mother looked anxious and hurried into the house.
"Brother, please forgive me. Lao Du usually smokes this kind of cigarette. I didn't know you were coming today. Please wait a moment. I'll ask the kids to buy some cigarettes. What do you smoke?"
"Go, get out of here. Women shouldn't interrupt men when they're talking. What's your business? Go cook your meal!"
All I heard was Uncle Du Chen shouting angrily.
Upon hearing this, Du Chen felt a buzzing sensation, and all the blood in his body rushed to his head. He picked up the bench beside him and rushed into the house.
"Fuck you, old man, you're looking for death!"
"Son, what are you doing! Put it down!"
Comrade Lao Du and his wife were also shocked when they saw Du Chen rushing towards that person with red eyes and holding a bench. Du Chen's mother was even more panicked and shouted at Du Chen to put down the bench.
Before Du Chen could rush over, Comrade Lao Du quickly stopped Du Chen, and then grabbed Du Bin who was following closely behind Du Chen.
"You two should go out first. I'm your dad here. I don't need you two yet."
Comrade Lao Du was very pleased with the two children's behavior, but he was also very angry about what his brother had just said.
"That's right, sons, Mom is fine. You guys go out and look after the store first." Du Chen's mother also kept comforting the two children.
Seeing her two sons rushing in with benches because they were scolded, Du Chen's mother felt warm in her heart and tears welled up in her eyes.
Looking at his parents' embarrassed expressions, Du Chen finally suppressed his anger, glared at his father and cousin, and pulled the unwilling Du Bin out of the house.
"Chenchen, what do you mean? Why did you come out?"
Du Bin shook off Du Chen's hand and growled at him angrily.
"Brother, don't be impatient. Let's first listen to what that old man wants to do. Don't worry, I will never let him go!"
Du Chen was also filled with anger, and he made up his mind to deal with these two people today.
"Brother, is your Walkman in the store?"
"In the book room. What do you want that for?"
"Just in case, go get your Walkman, two new batteries, and a random tape."
Du Chen lay at the door listening to the movements in the house, and whispered to Du Bin.
Du Bin quickly prepared the things and quietly walked to the door to hand the things to Du Chen.
"Did you hear anything?"
"The voice was too soft to hear clearly. It sounded like Dad was apologizing. He didn't say anything else."
"Dad, what a fool! Why should I apologize to him? I should just slap him in the face." Du Bin said indignantly.
Du Chen didn't say anything when he heard this. He also felt that his father was sometimes too indecisive, which had both good and bad sides.
Before the two could say anything else, the door lock clicked, and Du Chen and the other man quickly jumped aside and acted as if nothing had happened.
"Mom, why did you come out? Are you okay?"
It was Du Chen's mother who opened the door. Du Bin asked hurriedly when he saw this.
"It's okay, Mom is okay, kids, you are too impulsive." Du Chen's mother said helplessly.
"You can say it's okay for me, but you can't!" Du Chen replied angrily.
"Yes, that's right, Mom, I will definitely avenge you!" Du Bin also echoed.
"Okay, okay, don't make trouble. Mom is really fine. Come on, bring the dishes on the counter over and eat first."
