Chapter 51: Work Begins

What happened before is over, and no one in the family wants to bring it up again. If they do, it will only make themselves unhappy.

The next day at noon, while eating in the restaurant, Comrade Lao Du took the initiative to talk to Du Chen about what happened yesterday.

"Second brother, the Jetta and Crown were delivered today. As you said, I am now removing the door panels."

"No, Dad, they're pretty quick. And did you ask Director Duan if he knows anyone who sells leather?"

"The leader of the branch office loves listening to music. He was so excited to hear it that he sent the car over right away. I also asked the section chief about the leather materials. He happens to know a small furniture factory in a nearby county. We can just go there and get the materials. The section chief will pay for it."

"That's fine, but he'll definitely pay for it, and we can even contribute to it. Let's put it this way, Dad. I'll go straight to the repair shop after school this afternoon."

"Okay, you can make your own arrangements, but don't fall behind in your studies."

Although Comrade Lao Du knew that they didn't need to worry about Du Chen's studies, he still gave him a reminder.

"No problem, Dad, I'm still worried about you."

Du Bin felt itchy inside as he listened to his father and brother chatting. After thinking about it, he told them his thoughts.

"Dad, I like audio equipment too. Can you let me go and take a look? I promise it won't interfere with my studies!"

"What time do you get out of school? If you want to go, wait until Saturday after school. It would be nice to see the world."

Comrade Lao Du thought about it and did not completely refuse.

"Okay, Dad. I'll go straight there after school on Saturday!"

Du Bin was afraid his father would change his mind, so he decided to go after school on Saturday. He quickly ate and ignored their conversation. Once the goal was achieved, he kept a low profile.

During the afternoon class, Du Chen was thinking about the construction process and predicting some difficulties in the construction. He spent the whole afternoon in a daze. After school, he left his schoolbag in the store and walked to the repair shop by himself.

When we arrived at the repair shop, Comrade Lao Du was dismantling the Crown with one of his workers, while the other two workers were repairing other vehicles. After all, modifying the audio system was a private job, and they had to do their main job.

"Dad, I'm coming!"

Du Chen saw that his father was so absorbed in his work that he didn't even notice him coming, so he had to say hello to remind his father.

"Oh, you're here. Go to the office first."

Comrade Lao Du didn't say much. He told Du Chen to wait until the other workers got off work before coming to work. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain how a second-grade kid could modify the audio system.

Du Chen didn't go to the office, but instead wandered around the repair shop. About twenty minutes later, it was time to get off work. Several other workers in the repair shop packed up their tools, changed clothes, and left.

"Squad leader, I'm leaving now. See you tomorrow!"

"Old Du, I'm leaving, why don't you leave?"

"Wait a minute, I'll take the child to take a bath before leaving, you guys go slowly!"

Comrade Lao Du greeted several other workers.

After everyone else left, Comrade Lao Du couldn't wait to lead Du Chen to the front of the crown and said to Du Chen, "Second brother, what do you think we should do?"

Du Chen walked around the Crown. There was a large dent in the middle of the front of the car, and the engine, transmission and water tank were all broken. It looked like it had hit a telephone pole. Fortunately, the car doors could be opened, which meant that the workbench had moved back slightly, but it did not affect the CD host.

"Dad, did you guys take all the speakers off?"

"Yeah, it's all over there. I'm trying to figure out how to disassemble this CD player."

Du Chen glanced at the CD, took out a small flat-head screwdriver from the toolbox next to him, and began to pry open the decorative panel along the gap.

After a while, Du Chen deftly took apart the CD player. Fortunately, there were wiring definitions on the back of the CD player, so he didn't need to measure the tail wires one by one.

"Dad, hand me a pair of diagonal pliers."

Du Chen said to Comrade Lao Du.

"Here, why are you cutting the plug?" Comrade Lao Du asked, looking at Du Chen's behavior.

"As for wiring, it's so simple to use the original car plug and then connect it to the Jetta."

Du Chen explained to Comrade Lao Du while busy with his work.

After removing the main unit, Du Chen went to the Jetta again. The original Jetta audio system was on the workbench. The space there was too small to fit the Crown speaker, so Du Chen planned to put the speaker on the car door.

"Dad, come here, pry this open and take out the original car speaker..."

Du Chen gestured and spoke to Comrade Lao Du.

Comrade Lao Du was very skillful and removed the speaker from the workbench in no time.

"Son, there's no room for the Crown's speaker, is there?"

Comrade Lao Du looked at the small hole on the workbench and said to Du Chen.

"Well, that's useless. I was going to put the Crown speakers on the car doors. It's a pity that the Crown is also a coaxial speaker, otherwise the tweeter would be just right on the workbench."

Comrade Lao Du's head was full of questions. First, how could the Crown speakers be installed on the car door? Second, what is a coaxial cable? What is a tweeter? Thinking of this, Comrade Lao Du directly asked Du Chen.

"Son, what is coaxial and what is a tweeter?"

Hearing his father's question, Du Chen also wanted to explain car audio to his father, so he explained the two-way and three-way treble, mid-range and bass sound field to Comrade Du bit by bit.

Comrade Lao Du was confused, but curious about where Du Chen knew these things.

"Son, where did you learn all this?"

"Oh, I saw it when I was choosing books in the city last time."

Du Chen spoke freely for a while, but only made up an excuse when Comrade Lao Du asked him about it.
