On the morning of New Year's Eve, Du Chen opened his eyes amid the sound of firecrackers and looked at the time. It was just 7:30 in the morning. Although he was not fully awake yet, Du Chen was already quite happy.
After getting dressed and going to the living room, Comrade Lao Du and Ren Surong were already sitting there watching TV and making dumplings.
"Mom and Dad, when will you get up?"
Seeing that quite a few dumplings had already been made, Comrade Lao Du and Ren Surong must have been busy for a while.
"It's around 6:30. Go wash up quickly and then make dumplings."
While wrapping dumplings, Ren Surong urged Du Chen to move faster.
In less than ten minutes, Du Chen also moved a stool and sat next to the coffee table to make dumplings together.
"Mom, how much are you going to pack? It looks like you've already packed a lot."
"You and your brother are both big-bellied guys. If you pack less, there won't be enough to eat."
Ren Surong said this with disdain, but her hands never stopped rolling the dough.
"You little brat is eating me out of my house. I could eat when I was a kid, but there was nothing to eat then, unlike now."
Comrade Lao Du sighed. In his impression, every time there was a festival, Comrade Lao Du always had a lot of emotion. He sighed about the hardships and fatigue they had suffered in that era, and then he sighed about how wonderful life is now.
"Lao Du, I'm telling you, I won't stop you from drinking today, but don't act crazy if you drink too much!"
Ren Surong warned Comrade Lao Du.
"When did I get drunk? I usually go to sleep after drinking. Don't blame me!"
In front of his son, Comrade Lao Du would not admit his incompetence and kept quibbling with Ren Surong.
"Tsk, you've only been better in the last few years. Once you get drunk, you start telling stories, or whatever. Or you say God is the boss and you're the boss, and you don't like this person and you hate that person..."
"Alright, alright, I was wrong, I know it. The child is here, please give me some face!"
When Comrade Lao Du heard Ren Surong telling his dark history without giving him face, he immediately bowed to his wife and begged for mercy, hoping that Ren Surong would give him some face.
"When I'm not drunk, I belong to Yuncheng. When I'm drunk, Yuncheng belongs to me, right, Mom."
Du Chen helped his mother summarize for Comrade Lao Du.
Comrade Lao Du's face flushed, and he threatened Du Chen with a strong exterior but weak interior.
"Second brother, I know you can write a book, but please be quiet today. Don't force me to beat you up during the New Year."
"Yes, sir!"
Du Chen laughed as he spoke, and Ren Surong also laughed non-stop.
"Mom and Dad, Chenchen, what are you talking about so early in the morning? Why are you smiling so happily?"
Du Bin walked into the living room with sleepy eyes and asked a few people with a confused look on his face.
"You're so lazy! Hurry up and wash your hands and face and come make dumplings! Otherwise, there won't be any for you at lunch!"
Seeing Comrade Du Bin, Old Du seemed to have seen a savior. Du Bin, who was still not fully awake, took the blame. He scratched his head and walked to the bathroom in a daze to take care of his personal hygiene.
After Du Bin dealt with his personal problems, he moved a small stool and sat next to the coffee table to make dumplings with everyone, but Du Bin had not forgotten the topic just now.
"Mom, what were you laughing at just now?"
Comrade Lao Du immediately looked at his wife, hoping that she would give him some face and not say anything that should not be said.
"Nothing, I just thought about how your uncle Ding was wrongly accused last night."
Ren Surong gave face to Comrade Lao Du and didn't say much, just casually perfunctorily answering Du Bin. Du Bin was now clear-headed, raised his eyebrows, and then secretly looked at Du Chen, hoping that Du Chen would give him a hint. As a result, Du Chen was just concentrating on the dumpling skin, as if he was trying to pinch out some lace dumplings, and ignored Du Bin's gaze at all.
"Oh, that's the case, Mom. What do you want for breakfast? I'm hungry."
Du Bin saw that no one wanted to tell him the truth, so he could only change the subject, but he was really hungry now.
"Cook noodles yourself!"
"Mom, isn't today New Year's Eve? Are we having noodles this morning?"
Du Bin was unhappy. There were dumplings in front of him, but his mother asked him to cook noodles.
"Eat it if you want or not, there's a lot to do later, who has the time to cook for you?"
"What about dumplings? Aren't these ready-made dumplings?"
Du Bin pointed to the dumplings in front of him.
"That's for lunch and dinner. We'll be busy later so we won't have time to make dumplings. We have to make them in advance."
Seeing Du Bin's idea of making dumplings, Ren Surong was unhappy. With Du Bin's appetite, he would have to eat about twenty dumplings in the morning. After working all morning, they didn't make many dumplings.
"Then I can eat these."
Du Bin complained that not long after returning home for the holiday, he could no longer feel the love of his mother and father.
“Thump, thump, thump…”
Du Chen, who was watching the excitement, suddenly heard a knock on the door. Du Chen got up and went to open the door. He dared to bet a hundred yuan with Du Bin that it must be Ding Miaomiao coming.
"Sister Miaomiao, Happy New Year! Uncle Ding, Happy New Year! Auntie, Happy New Year!"
As soon as Du Chen opened the door, he saw Ding Miaomiao. He first greeted her and then saw Lao Ding and Jia Xiaomin standing behind Ding Miaomiao.
When they walked into the living room, Comrade Lao Du and his companions realized that Lao Ding's family had arrived.
"Old Ding, Happy New Year!"
Everyone greeted each other again.
"Miaomiao, have you eaten yet? If not, Auntie made you some dumplings. She just made them this morning!"
Ren Surong held Ding Miaomiao's hand and asked her about her well-being. They had just separated last night, but now it seemed as if they hadn't seen each other for years.
