Chapter 6: Storm is coming, and a fight is coming

"Then can he give it to you?" Li Hongwei couldn't help but blurt out.

His father Li Pingwang's money is his life.

Apart from his eldest sister Li Hongyan, the money that he, the eldest son, used to build the house was borrowed by his father because his mother-in-law came forward and used the next three months' salary of her second daughter who was a teacher as collateral, saying that she would use the money to repay him after the salary was paid.

For so many years, he couldn't even hold his head up when he went to his mother-in-law's house.

He really couldn't understand why, since they were both his father's children, the money his father earned from farming, planting trees and selling fruits could be so easily lent to his eldest sister. He didn't know how much money his father had earned over the years, but he had never asked for it back.

When he borrowed money from his father, his father treated him like a thief who stole his money.

"Even if he doesn't give it to me, I have to give it to him!"

Chen Xiaoying's face turned cold and her attitude was extremely firm, as if she would have a huge fight with the old man if he didn't give her money.

Li Hongwei frowned as he watched this. He simply didn't believe that his mother had never taken five dollars from his father in her entire life.

Li Hongwei pushed his bicycle and took his mother Chen Xiaoying back to the old house.

Just then he saw his father Li Pingwang standing in front of the empty sheep pen, looking at something.

When he saw them coming back, he asked, "Have you sold the sheep?"

Chen Xiaoying looked at the man in front of her with whom she had spent her whole life, and her teeth were itching with hatred.

"You have eyes but can't see?"

Li Pingwang was stunned, and his face suddenly turned dark: "How can you talk like that? I asked you something."

Chen Xiaoying never dared to go against Li Pingwang in her entire life. The only reason she dared to say a few angry words in recent years was because her sons were all grown up, and if he beat her, there would be few people who could stop her.

She had a miserable life. She married Li Pingwang, who looked like a decent man, tall and strong, and honest and simple. But after she got married, she realized that this man was not the kind of man to live with.

She worked hard to give birth to four sons and three daughters for him, and spent nearly twenty years of her life giving birth and raising children.

However, he was a hands-off boss. He just watched her children being born one after another. Not only did he not lend a hand, he also kept the money he earned from farming tightly in his hands, wishing not to spend a single penny on her.

As for the children.

He only guaranteed to give his children enough food to eat so they would not starve to death, and also to pay for their schooling. The extra money was that the clothes they wore to school would be so tattered that they would look like beggars, and they would be laughed at by the villagers. His children would feel ashamed and unable to hold their heads up, but he did not spend a penny just to get them some decent clothes to wear.

The clothes that were made with difficulty were always worn by the eldest child first, then by the second child, who would then mend them and wear them by the third child, and then they would be passed down like heirlooms.

She herself was an illiterate old rural woman who knew nothing, and the old man had a bad temper. If she yelled at him, he would beat her.

One punch caused her chest to hurt for the whole day.

The slap left her face so swollen that it took several days to go down.

When she was young, she was pushed into a corner. There was no such thing as divorce at that time. She really couldn't live with such a man, so she took medicine and wanted to die. But she was not destined to die, so she went to the pharmacy and got life-saving medicine, which saved her life.

There were seven children in total. Except for the last two daughters who went to school well, the others just stayed in elementary school for a few years and then stopped attending school.

If they don't go to school, there will be no future, so, except for the eldest brother who farms at home, the other three all go out to work.

It was not until her death that she realized how much people who don't go to school suffer in the outside world.

Reading can make people smarter.

Reading can also broaden one's horizons.

The sons did not study hard from childhood to adulthood, and they knew nothing when they went out, so they could only do hard labor.

When she died, her eldest granddaughter explained to her why she gave birth to four sons but none of them became successful, and why she also had four granddaughters and one grandson, but none of them became successful.

What is the reason?

The reason lies in the original family. What is the original family?

"The original family is the family environment where a child lives with his parents since childhood. Whether a child will have a promising future depends on the education and resources his parents have invested in him. Many people who have achieved certain success in society at a young age are mostly standing on the shoulders of their parents. They will not let them repeat the detours their parents have taken. Smart parents will even point out the direction for them in advance, telling them what direction they should work towards."

"Unlike me, although I managed to get into college through my own efforts, I was short of money and had to serve dishes, pass out flyers, and work part-time jobs. While others were taking postgraduate entrance exams, taking qualification certificates, trying to get into the party with counselors, and learning about related industries for the positions they were interested in in the future."

"By the time I finally understood what was going on, I had already been working for others for several years. I had work pressure and needed to coordinate relationships with colleagues. The study materials were not as abundant as those in university libraries, and there were no ready-made teachers to consult. It was more difficult for me to obtain a certificate than when I was in school."

Although the eldest granddaughter Li Yutong said it lightly.

But she could hear that her granddaughter was very sad. By the time she understood these principles, it was already too late. It was not that she didn't work hard, but that she was working in the wrong direction.

It's like climbing a mountain to pick fruits. Others are going in the right direction and they harvest fruits along the way, but she is not. She works day and night, and tries her best to climb up. She puts in so much effort and time, but in the end she gets nothing because she climbed in the wrong direction and has to choose a new direction for survival.

If she and the old man Li Pingwang had known the importance of studying, they would have supported their eldest son to go to school. Their eldest son would have become an educated, intelligent and promising person.

Would her eldest granddaughter learn the truth so late?

It's not just the eldest, the second, third, and fourth children. They all didn't know the importance of studying when they were in school and just slacked off in class.

They still have to be supervised by teachers. Nowadays, if children don’t listen, the teachers will beat them with sticks, and they don’t want to go to school anymore.

If you don’t want to go, then don’t go. Just farm or work.

At that time they didn’t know what the consequences of farming and working were.

She saw when she died that children raised by farming parents are ignorant and have to struggle in society on their own to understand things. Children of migrant workers who stay in their hometown are mostly too timid and are bullied, or too wild and disobedient in the end.

The children of the second and third brothers are all like this. The two daughters of the eldest brother are at least college students, but the children of the second, third and fourth brothers only went to junior high school at most, and then they all ran out to work, either serving dishes in restaurants or working on the assembly line in factories day and night.

The root cause lies in her and the old man, who did not realize the importance of learning.

Now, her sons are beyond redemption, and she has to support her grandchildren, so that they can go to school well, not be bullied or laughed at, and be respected by others.

"The money from selling the sheep."

She had just sat down on the chair when she heard Li Pingwang ask.

Needless to say, everyone knew that he was also thinking about the money she made from selling the sheep.

She took out the money and stuffed it into the hands of the boss.

Li Hongwei was stunned: "Mom?"

"Take this money and buy bricks," she said.

If the money is kept with her, even if it is hidden in a rat hole, it will be taken away even if the rats don't gnaw on it. It is better to replace it with bricks for building a house as soon as possible.

"What did you say? What do you want to do?"

Li Pingwang thought he had heard wrongly.
